1960 Ford Starliner 352 2bbl, 2 Dr Hd, Original And Unrestored on 2040-cars

Year:1960 Mileage:49354
Location:

Staunton, Illinois, United States

Staunton, Illinois, United States

Be the only 1960 Ford Starliner at your next car show or car cruise!  Set your self apart from Tri-Five, Camaro and Mustang crowd.  Everyone seems to have one of those cars but you will be the only one with this rare beautiful find!

Here is you chance to own one of the very best rare and original unrestored 1960 Ford Starliners out there!  I am the second titled owner of this rare barn find vehicle!  I promise that there are not many rust-free 1960 Ford Starliners left.  This car is still wearing its original Ford paint, trim, interior and running gear.  Anyone who knows  anything about 1960 Fords knows that it is next to impossible to find one in a rust-free, unmolested condition with all the hard-to-find parts still intact.  This car could be kept in original condition (which is what I did since they are original once), or it would make for an easier unbelievable restoration.  Money ahead if you started a restoration with this vehicle. You will be hard pressed to find another original Starliner with 49,000 actual miles on the odometer.

The overall condition of this rare find is excellent!  The body is straight and rust-free.  No patch panels or replacement parts will be found on it or needed.  The trunk is solid/rust-free and still has all the original mats and cardboard.  The trim(stainless) is in above average shape and is all there.  As with any car that is dripping with chrome or stainless there are some dings and dents (see pictures).   The paint is the original Corinthian White from the factory.  There are still the "red checks" from the factory where it passed inspection.  It does show some scratches and rock chips which is to be expected from a car that is 54 years old!  Motor and transmission are in excellent running shape.  Fly in and driver her home if you like.  The engine compartment and trunk were detailed to prevent any type of corrosion.  There was one spot on the driver side rear quarter panel that was blended due to a cat spraying it occasionally (this happened before I owned the car). No pets or children have been near it since.

This Starliner is equipped with FE 352 2BBL and the Cruis-O-Matic 3speed automatic transmission.  This car still runs and drives like it did back in 1960!  The motor has been tuned up (runs like a sewing machine) and the exhaust has been replaced and upgraded to original-like dual exhaust.  Manual brakes and power steering have been gone through and are in perfect operating condition.  White wall tires are brand new and have less than 1,000 miles on them.

Like the rest of the car the glass and interior is original and in amazing shape.  This car came with the black appointed interior.  Door panels and kick panels are original to the car and are like new(see pics). No rips, scratches or tears.  Only the padded dash has one crack next to the center speaker grill.  Headliner is original with no rips.  Most people at car shows are amazed at the condition of the interior!  Even the clock will run(well...most of the time).  Glass is clear with no cracks or blistering.  All the original Ford stamps are where they should be!

This 1960 Ford Starliner comes with the original window sticker!  It was built in Chicago, IL and later sold at a dealership in Carthage, IL.  I picked up this barn find over 5 years ago in South Central Illinois looking for parts for my other restoration project.  The car had been in a farmers garage covered in blankets since 1985.  I purchased this vehicle, had everything mechanical checked out (including fuel system) and off I went.  Drawing crowds at every event or stop light.

Options on the vehicle are as follows:  352 2bbl, 3spd Cruise-O-Matic A/T, Power Steering, AM Radio, Clock, Magic-Aire Heater, Back-up lights,  Rear Bumper Reflectors and  Full Wheel Covers.  I do have other options available from 1960 if you are interested in but not included in this sale.

This sale is for PICK-UP ONLY!  Buyer is responsible for $1,000 deposit no later that 48hrs after auctions ends.  Balance to be paid in full at time of pick-up.  Cash or certified bank check.  If payment by check I will not release title until the check clears.

Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names

Tue, Mar 17 2015

Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Here's why automakers roll out those Texas-themed pickup trucks

Thu, Sep 29 2016

Every year, automakers with a full-size truck link make a big show of the Texas State Fair, usually involving a reveal of a new model. Sometimes they show a whole new truck, and other times a special edition centered on the Lone Star state. While some people might write this off as a quirk of the industry, others might be wondering, "What's the big deal with Texas?" As it turns out, part of the big deal with Texas is big truck sales. According to Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager at AutoPacific, Texas buys more trucks than any other state in the country. It's not a small margin either. Edmunds.com, one in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. The state also accounts for 15 percent of the country's large truck sales, which is more than twice that of California, the second largest truck market in America. Even when you break down sales only in Texas, trucks are a huge piece of the pie - Sullivan says that a quarter of new vehicle sales in Texas are trucks. One in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. But it's not just sales that make truck builders give attention to Texas. As Sullivan explained, "Pickups are life in Texas." Both he and Hugh Milne, marketing and advertising manager for the Chevy Silverado line, said that trucks are key fixtures in Texas society, as both work trucks and luxury vehicles (or Texas Cadillacs as Milne called them). Milne said Texas is so important in the truck market that if you want to be successful in the rest of the country, "you've got to be successful in Texas." As for the State Fair, it has become a prime location for reveals in part because of the importance of the Texas market and because of how big the fair is. Milne also revealed that the State Fair also hosts its own auto show, so it's an ideal venue for a vehicle introduction. So there you have it. Why do truck builders obsess over Texas? It's because Texas obsesses over trucks. When you have one market that loves your product that much, you give it the attention it deserves.
