1960 Ford Starliner 2 Door Fastback Galaxie - Very Nice Driver. 1961 1962 1963 on 2040-cars
Aberdeen, Mississippi, United States
You are looking at a great car that bought it because I have always wanted a Starliner. I am only selling it because I have run out of room in my garage and need the space. The 1960 & 1961 Fords are pretty much over looked, 1960 Ford being almost forgotten. I love the 1961 Starliner and the design and styling are a work of art. The fastback roof line and wide stance coupled with the beautiful fastback roof and flat wings make this car a visual beauty. If you are looking for a truly unique car that is fun to drive and it attracts attention where ever it goes. The two tone paint adds to the line and attractiveness of the Starliner. This car is not perfect but it is a very nice driver that runs strong, shifts good and handles like it should. The paint is good but not perfect and what you would call a 10 footer. The interior is nice and comfortable for even the long trips to the car show.
The 352 FE V8 is intact and runs strong with the factory 300 horse power it moves the Starliner on down the road. It has a stock original 3 speed on the tree. Most of the chrome is new original stock including the rear bumper and grille. The stainless trim is intact but does have some dents in it. It has dual exhaust and it equipped with new mufflers. I have posted pictures of the under carriage and frame and you will see it is in really good shape with only surface rust. The trunk has had some rust like most of these cars but it has been repaired and looks really nice. it is a work of art. I cleaned and resealed the frame and under body myself. The engine is clean and well sorted.
It does have the fender skirts that come with the car. It is an original car that has been very well taken care of and one that has many more miles left in it for you to enjoy. The 1960 Ford Starliner is a car that you can keep and drive in the current condition or spend a little time and effort and make it a trailer queen. If you have any questions please contact me and I will be glad to help you in anyway I can. This car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thank you for looking at my 1960 Starliner and bid to win. While all of Ford's passenger cars were radically redesigned for 1960, the Starliner was Ford's new performance model and the focus of this vintage advertisement. Using frantic music and color video, it's clear Ford wanted everyone to know the 1960 Starliner was the car "for those who wanted the ultimate in performance". Fords were totally redesigned for 1960 from the prior year's model, and whether you love the design or hate it, it is certainly memorable. At 81.5 inches wide the massive '60 Fords were the widest yet, more than an inch wider than the Lincolns of the same year. Even if the cars were huge, that didn't mean Ford was ready to concede any claims of performance. While the 352 V8 was available in any model for 1960, it was primarily marketed in the brand new Starliner. Automotive advertisements of the late '50s and early '60s weren't known for modesty, and this one is no exception. The "extra responsiveness" of the 352 V8 engine "makes the Starliner more fun to drive than any car you've ever driven before." 1960 was somewhat of an off year for car sales and Ford felt the effects just like the other companies. Although Ford managed to sell 68,461 Starliners that year, their total sales numbers were down significantly from 1959. Ford's passenger cars would face a more conservative redesign for the 1961 model year. Unfortunately, 1960 Fords have a fairly low survival rate, making it pretty hard to find any car from that year. On Jul-17-14 at 22:00:57 PDT, seller added the following information: I have conflicting information on the horse power of the 352. I stated it is 300 hp from one online source but I had another source pointed out to me that it says 220 hp. I apologize for any confusion on the actual Horse power of the engine. It runs strong and has plenty of power to enjoy. |

Ford to build next F-150, outgoing model concurrently?
Wed, 24 Jul 2013Ford is rumored to be considering concurrent production for old and new F-150 models in a bid to minimize supply chain disruptions and inventory. Automotive News is reporting that the Blue Oval will build both the current F-150 and its replacement, which we showed you testing just last month, side by side for about half a year before switching over entirely to next-generation production.
As IHS Automotive analyst Mike Jackson told AN, "In order to ramp up, you have to retool...and that means you have to take capacity offline." Building both models alongside could allow Ford to cope with the still strong demand for the current F-150, while populating dealer supplies and working out supply chain kinks for the new model before making a full-time switch.
A loss of capacity when demand is so strong, even for a short period, could spell bad news for Ford, which nets an estimated 90 percent of its global profit on pickups and large SUVs. As AN states, Ford produces the F-150 in both Kansas City, Missouri and Dearborn, Michigan, which allows it to maintain some degree of flexibility in production. The new F-150 is expected to arrive at the 2014 North American International Auto Show as a 2015 model, with a design inspired by the Atlas Concept first shown at the Detroit Auto Show last January.
Honda giving away free Civics in Forza Horizon to celebrate launch
Wed, 16 Jan 2013Just a friendly reminder from Honda: The Honda Challenge Pack DLC is now available for Forza Horizon. To reward you for the trouble of pressing a few buttons on your Xbox controller, you'll get the 2013 Honda Civic Coupe, an HPD Rally Fit and a 1986 Honda Civic Si Coupe in your garage, and you'll get them free. The event of the new DLC has also kicked off a photo contest that will reward someone with an Xbox 360 console wrapped in a Honda Civic Si theme.
Otherwise, the word "Challenge" keeps coming up because of the chance to run an online race against IndyCar driver Scott Dixon. The track for that digital throwdown has already been decided by Xbox players who voted before January 8. Yet it's not too late to hop into the Honda section in Xbox Live and lay down a time fast enough for a shot at the title "The Driver That Shellacked Scott Dixon," and meeting the man in person.
Check out the press release from Honda below, and the sweetness that is the 1986 Civic Si in the gallery above.
The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top.
