A
197-horsepower car is not the kind of machine that gets acceleration
addicts excited. A basic V6 Mustang delivers 305. The V8 GT has 402. But
197?As it turns out, 197 horses can be loads of fun, as they are in the Ford Fiesta ST,
For starters, this hatchback is not very big, and it weighs only 2,742
pounds.
The
E.P.A. fuel-economy numbers are 26 miles per gallon in the city, 35 on
the highway. That’s just a bit less than the standard Fiesta, which has
only 120 horsepower. I saw 24 m.p.g., but I flogged the ST mercilessly
and constantly. I just couldn’t help myself. The
mandatory 6-speed manual gearbox has a light, forgiving clutch and
solid shifter feel. Driving dynamics are wonderfully neutral for a
front-wheel-drive car. Zero to 60 happens in 6.5 seconds. Add it all up
and 197 horsepower makes the Fiesta ST a party on four wheels. Ford's fastest and most dynamic small
production car has earned 22 awards from Europe and around the world
since going on sale last year, making it the most-awarded performance
subcompact Ford has ever made.
Named BBC TopGear Magazine Car of the Year, U.K., and Echappement
magazine Sports Car of the Year, France, the Fiesta ST also was recently
named a 2014 Automobile Magazine All-Star in the U.S.
The compact performance hatch has also been showered
with praise, taking home top honors in Car Magazine's Top 12 awards
this past January. In its selection of the 12 best cars in specific
categories, the staff of Car Magazine named the Fiesta ST the Best Hot
Hatch for 2014. The ST also scooped the awards for Hot Hatch of the year
2014 and most enjoyable car of 2013 from Top Gear SA magazine. RPM also
recently named it Hot Hatch of the year.
Team RS tuned the powertrain, suspension, steering and brakes for
optimised driving dynamics; and introduced features only previously
found in larger performance cars - including enhanced Torque Vectoring
Control (eTVC) and three-mode Electronic Stability Control (ESC),
six-speed manual transmission, and rear disc brakes.
"The new Fiesta ST delivers remarkable levels of performance, design
and quality to offer an unsurpassed driving experience," said Juergen
Gagstatter, chief programme engineer, Fiesta ST. "Ford's European
customers are connoisseurs of the hot hatchback and the new Fiesta ST
speaks directly to that passion for performance driving."

It seems weird to think that an automaker could have a social media star, but Ford does. Or at least it did. Scott Monty, its Global Digital Communications Manager, led the company's team for almost six years and forged a reputation as being one of the most talented people in corporate social media. But the guru recently announced that he would be leaving the automaker for an undisclosed job elsewhere.
"I just decided the time was right. I am going to take a little time with my family, and I am going to start on a new adventure pretty soon," said Monty in an interview with AdWeek. He also explained a little about his theory of how companies should use social media. In his opinion, it should be a chance to go beyond standard marketing and build a relationship with people. Businesses need to have a broad focus for its online message, and using just one service isn't enough to be successful.
Under his guidance, Ford expanded its Facebook presence significantly. According to AdWeek, it launched the 2010 Explorer on the popular site. Also, when the company wanted to investigate selling electric models, it initially gauged the public's reaction on Facebook and then advertised them there first. Monty has been a major supporter of Twitter as well to broaden the company's communication with the public.

When Ford made the decision to end production of the Falcon sedan and Territory CUV in Australia, it wasn't a popular move Down Under. The large, four-door Falcon had been in production for 50 years, and while Ford has reaffirmed its commitment to the Australian market, it's understandable that some people still aren't all that crazy about the Blue Oval's decision.
Speaking to CEO Alan Mulally after Ford's Go Further event in Sydney, Australian site Go Auto reports that the decision was not one made lightly, and that the automaker is doing everything possible to respect the Falcon and Territory's "stakeholders." It's an interesting piece that shows a softer side of a corporation, while demonstrating that Ford is doing everything in its power to make the end of production as smooth as possible for all parties.
Head over to Go Auto for the full series of remarks from Mulally, and then let us know what you think of Ford's handling of the Falcon and Territory discontinuations, in Comments.
