1965 Ford Falcon 2dr. sedan 63.644 real miles. South Georgia farm family owned from new. lived here all its life. in south Georgia no show no ice NO SALT. no rust thru no rot. The car was parked in a pole barn in 1982 and stayed there. This was the least expensive Falcon and Ford for 1965. $1,977.00 new, weighs 2,370 lbs. This is No Option car, radio delete with plate. 170 cubic inch engine, 3 speed standard transmission. I have a folder with over 70 photos of parts and resto of work done. I bought this car for myself. I like Falcons. I went a little over the top for dependability. 3 coats primer, block, and wet sanded. 2 coats flat white. No body repair, no dents or dings. If I wanted to put it in color later on I could. But for now I like it this way. The doors shut even and straight, no sag, lines are good. Hood and trunk open and close correctly. Factory seats belts. The windows roll up and down. The front seat moves back and forth. Sun visors and headliner complete and original no tears. Factory owners manual, good glove box liner, good rear package shelf. The headlights high and low, fan motor, tail lights, parking lights, wiper motor all work. It has the original stainless steel wiper arms. It has the original keys that say Falcon, have Falcon key fob with two extra blank keys that say Falcon. Correct 1965 hub caps that say Falcon. At one time in its life had a fender bender. Replaced right front fender with a factory fender. Upper right corner of grille has a crinkle. (in photo) No other damage, None. The only plastic I found was on the left rear upper fender by tail light. The size of a silver dollar. Fender line is good. ( in photo) Original seats with Falcon emblem, split in rear seat. ( in photo) Some of the new parts I replaced: Master cylinder, front and rear wheel cyl. , front and rear brake hoses, brake hardware. new battery, stainless clutch and accelarator springs, clutch, pressure plate, disc, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, two new tires/0 miles, one very good, one fair, grille emblem, dome light assembly, horn button retainer, U joint, oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, plugs, points, condenser, rotor, cap, up graded to 8mm wires, Flushed fuel tank, flushed and cleaned transmission, refilled with 85/140 gear oil The reason I'm selling: Fifty one years ago I bought a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville, sold it, sorry I did. Looking for one for years. Irony. I found one less than 3 miles from my home. Just like the one that was on the Gas Monkey garage episode (without the cow horns) This Falcon is a bone stock factory car. Touch the key, starts right up, drive it anywhere. Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake
Thu, 19 Sep 2013History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.
Chris Harris pits Fiesta ST against Mercedes G63 AMG in 0-60 battle... sort of
Thu, 01 Aug 2013Vehicle performance tests are serious business, with reputations made or broken by things like braking distance, top speed, and lateral g-forces. King of the metrics, though, is the 0-60 run, which for unknown reasons has become the benchmark for what truly makes a car a performance machine.
Now, Chris Harris from Drive has turned the whole idea behind the sprint to 60 on its ear. Taking a new Ford Fiesta ST, Harris asks a simple question: would the ST be quicker to 60 on its own, or on a trailer being towed by a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG?
It's a fair question, really. The Fiesta Harris tested hit 60 in 7.2 seconds on a slightly uphill section of runway. It should be noted that Harris quotes his ST at 182 horsepower, which is about 15 ponies less than what we're getting in the US, so these numbers might not hold up all that well against an American model. The G63 AMG, meanwhile, is a 536-horsepower monster, powered by a twin-turbo V8 that, able to propel the big SUV to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds without towing a Fiesta.
Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
