This is a 1963 Ford Falcon Ranchero. I bought it to run around town in and for errands, and now must sell it due to arthritis problems that make driving a stick shift difficult. It runs and drives and has a clear California title and current registration. The good stuff: The body is pretty straight but not perfect. The interior is nice but needs a new headliner and carpet. Has a rechromed rear bumper, newer aluminum radiator, newer battery, newer wheel cylinders & master cylinder and steel brake lines (the hydraulic lines - brake lining is about 50%, u-joints are new, always starts & doesn't overheat. Bed has a little surface rust only - no rot. Tires are good. All glass is intact and in pretty good shape, all stock trim is on it. The not so good stuff: There is rot in floor both sides but has been fiberglassed over so floor is fairly solid - should be replaced; mild rot behind rear wheels at bottom of quarter & above rear wheel on rt. side - no other rot that I could find but has surface rust in other places, dent in tailgate around emblem - not real big, small dent in left door & fronts of both fenders - not bad, needs electrical work - wipers, horn, and heater don't work - all lights do, has alternator in place but should be wired better - charges but wiring should be re-done, engine runs good when warmed up but is tired - smokes some, needs a carburetor overhaul, clutch chatters some- shifts fine, drives o.k. but I only drive it around our smaller town. Overall it's a good start for a restoration project, or you could drive it while giving it the care it needs. It is not a car that you can just drive anywhere without doing some of the work it needs. Buyer is welcome to pick it up or I will work with any shipper. Shipping cost is solely the responsibility of the buyer. There was a time not so long ago when opting for a base Ford Mustang meant getting little more than some sheetmetal, an anemic four-cylinder engine and what may very well have been the world's most disappointing automatic transmission. During the Fox Body years, Ford seemed hell-bent on living up to Carroll Shelby's derogatory description of the coupe as little more than a runabout for demure office assistants, and the result was a base model with fewer sporting intentions than a Dilbert day calendar.
Some 20 years later, hopping behind the wheel of an entry-level pony is an entirely different experience. With all of the menacing aesthetics of the brawnier GT, a well-equipped interior and a drivetrain that toes the line between efficiency and power better than few before it, the 2013 Ford Mustang V6 is an attractive option for buyers in the big coupe market. But is it attractive enough to forgo the beastly GT?
Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue
Fri, 12 Sep 2014Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement. Ford partnering with MIT, Stanford on autonomous vehicle research
Fri, 24 Jan 2014Ask any car engineer what's the biggest variable in achieving fuel economy targets, and he'll tell you "the driver." If one human can't understand human driving behavior enough to be certain about an innocuous number like miles per gallon, how is an autonomous car supposed to figure out what hundreds of other drivers are going to do in the course of a day? Ford has enlisted the help of Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to find out.
Starting with the automated Fusion Hybrid introduced in December, MIT will be developing algorithms that driverless cars can use to "predict actions of other vehicles and pedestrians" and objects within the three-dimensional map provided by its four LIDAR sensors.
The Stanford team will research how to extend the 'vision' of that LIDAR array beyond obstructions while driving, analogous to the way a driver uses the entire width of a lane to see what's ahead of a larger vehicle in front. Ford says it wants to "provide the vehicle with common sense" as part of its Blueprint for Mobility, preparing for an autonomous world from 2025 and beyond.
