1980 Ford Fairmont Futura 4 Speed 4 Cyl. 2.3 L Sweet Car Plaid Interior Unusual on 2040-cars
Omaha, Nebraska, United States
Up for auction today I have this sweet Ford Fairmont Futura. This is a very cool alternative to the Mustang. This car has a very economical 2.3l 4 cyl with a 4 speed manual transmission. This is a very solid car. I love the plaid interior. I bought this car to do a restoration on to match up with my 1980 Monte Carlo, but that project has turned into a full body off restoration and I will not be getting to this one any time soon. Because of this I have decided to sell it rather than let it sit in my driveway. This car has manual brakes and steering. I was surprised to find so may things that you can do to this engine. Speedway has tons of parts for this engine set up. Most people put in a 5.0 but I think it would be cooler to run the original 4 cyl. The driver side bucket has a few spots in the red vinyl that have split and there is one little hole in the back seat that I saw. Should be easily repaired by an upholstery shop. The dash has a hole where the speaker mounts and the headliner is gone. The body has a little surface rust mostly behind the rear tires but it will clean up. The previous owner lived on gravel and it was from rock chips in the paint. The front fender has a spot where it looks like it got dinged and the pain chipped. See the pictures. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. I have not drove this car much and would recommend trailering it if it is going a long distance. It runs good, but like I said I bought it to restore it and haven't drove it. I would like the car picked up within 2 weeks of the end of the auction. If you are having it transported to you I know a couple of shippers, or will work with yours. Thanks for looing and good luck! |

New Ford dedicated hybrid due in 2018, will it fare better than C-Max?
Fri, Aug 22 2014Everyone likes to go after the champ. When it comes to fuel economy, that means taking on the Prius, which is something that automakers not named Toyota have been trying to do for years. Just because no one has been able to beat the Prius for fuel economy numbers isn't stopping them from trying. Hyundai was just caught with a potential Prius-fighter and now we have news that Ford is joining the party. Well, is going to join again. The last time Ford said it was going to challenge the Prius, it didn't go quite as planned. The C-Max hybrid was heavily hyped as a Prius-beater and was originally rated at 47 miles per gallon. Of course, it later needed to be recalculated to just 40 mpg and sales tanked. So, it's back to the Blue Oval drawing board, according to Automotive News, which is reporting that Ford is readying a brand new gas-electric hybrid due in 2018 as a 2019 model year vehicle. A plug-in version is in the works, too, and the car will reportedly share a platform with the upcoming next-gen Focus and Escape models. About those C-Max sales. They have not been stellar for the C-Max hybrid, which started strong but suffered when the reality of the lower fuel economy was realized. So far in 2014 (through the end of July), Ford has sold 11,685 gas-electric models and another 4,759 plug-in Energi versions. The trend for the standard C-Max is downward (from 20,125 during the same time frame in 2013) and upward for the plug-in version (2,915 in the first seven months of 2013).
Toyota Camry, Honda Civic inventories mounting as US automakers make inroads
Thu, 11 Jul 2013Two of the hottest-selling cars in America aren't quite as hot as they used to be. The Toyota Camry and Honda Civic are both seeing dealer supplies increase in the face of renewed competition from the much-improved Detroit Three.
According to a report from The Detroit News, the Camry's dealer inventory is 15 days higher than its seasonal average, while the Civic is 25 days above average. Things aren't expected to get better for Toyota and Honda, as RBC Capital Markets analyst Joseph Spak marked the two Japanese offerings as "at risk for reduced output."
The Detroit Three, meanwhile, are seeing supplies dwindle as demand increases, especially for the Ford Fusion, which has seen an 18-percent increase in 2013 sales, and the Chevrolet Cruze, which was second only to the Camry in June 2013 sales.
Ford posts decade-best $2.1B profit in Q1 2013
Wed, 24 Apr 2013As predicted, Ford has reported that its first quarter of 2013 was a resounding success overall, with a pretax profit of $2.1 billion ($0.41 per share), and a net income of $1.6 billion ($0.40 per share). In fact, Ford made a pretax profit of some $2.4 billion in its home North American market, with that total number being pulled down by losses in South America and Europe. That gaudy North American profit is the strongest result by the automaker since 2000.
Ford's companywide profit for Q1 was down $147 million from one year ago, while the net income number marked an increase of $215 million year over year. Overall, this is Ford's 15th-consecutive profitable quarter.
The bad news from the European market was even worst in Q1 2013 than it was last year. Pretax losses of $462 million - on revenue of $6.7 billion - represented a year-over-year change of -$313 million. In South American, the company reported a loss of $218 million, down from a slim profit of $54 million in Q1 2012. The news was better for Ford Asia Pacific Africa, where a $6 million pretax profit in 2013 showed a year-over-year gain of some $101 million when compared to losses in 2012.
