1963 Ford Fairlane 500 2-Door Hardtop V8 California Car, Rust free
Available for auction is a driver quality 1963 Ford Fairlane 500. This vehicle presents itself very well, in a
mostly original condition, rust free body and undercarriage and a tastefully
appointed interior, period correct for this classic. This vehicle is a pleasure to drive and a
great representation of Ford’s final year of sleek body style and fin era of
1963. Runs and drives great, shifts through all gears and the 4-wheel drum
brakes stop the car promptly. This
vehicle was a daily driver for many years, until its previous owner parked it. Always garage kept, which explains the
outstanding shape of all the chrome, body and under carriage. Recently fluids/filters were changed, the fuel
tank removed cleaned and serviced and the car is back on the road again. Interior The interior
looks outstanding with no tears in the seats, Gauge cluster is in great shape,
as well as all the dash components. The
dash pad is in great shape with one minor tear.
Door panels are in great shape, arm rests show some aging, but still
functional. The headliner is in driver
quality form, and has a few separations in the stitching, not hanging down, but
could get re-stitched in place from your local upholstery provider. The original steering wheel was replaced;
however the original steering wheel is in the trunk. All windows roll up and
down smooth, doors open and close solid. All interior lights are in working
order to include: dome light, under dash courtesy lights, gauge cluster lights,
headlight indicator on gauge cluster & turn signal indicator. The radio works well with and in dash cassette
player, but also is equipped with a multi- disc CD player in the trunk. Exterior All
following exterior lights are in working order: Headlights, taillights, brake
lights and turn signals. The paint
appears to be original; the original door tag is present along with the
original jacking instructions sticker still intact in the trunk. All chrome is present and in excellent
condition. The body is laser straight,
with minor imperfections of a few paint chips on the nose of the vehicle and infrequently
along the length of the car. Also
present are slight paint color variation in 3-4 spots (see video). The black section of the body line chrome is
in need of touch up, but again this vehicle is represented as a driver quality
classic, showing extremely well overall. Motor/Transmission The original
engine this Fairlane came stock from the factory with was a V8 221 cubic inch,
which unfortunately is no longer in the vehicle. However, it was replaced with a strong
running/powerful 302 at some point, prior to my ownership. The 302 is paired with an automatic
transmission that does have a small leak (4 drops over night). It shifts through all gears but may need
service from a transmission shop to remedy fluid loss issue. The engine compartment and motor are ultra
detailed, tastefully equipped with chrome valve covers, red painted 2 barrel
Ford stock intake manifold, stock 2 barrel carburetor, red painted water pump,
and exhaust manifolds to dual mufflers exiting at the rear of the car. The heater is functional and plumbed
accordingly. Undercarriage The
undercarriage of this Fairlane is solid. The frame rails/floor pans/torque
boxes have never seen a repair and are presented in original condition. Overall this is an outstanding vehicle that shows very well in the current condition. Offered in driver quality condition, this car would need very little to be a candidate for further restoration bringing it to excellent show stopper appearance, or drive it as is and enjoy the thumbs up as you cruise down the road. Being sold locally as well, this auction may end at any time. In person vehicle inspections are welcomed and encouraged as I may have missed minor details. I have described the condition/quality of the vehicle to the best of my ability. (See Video). The car is offered in as is condition with no warranty offered or implied. Buyer is responsible for shipping of the vehicle with a $500.00 non-refundable deposit paid via Pay pal within 24 hours of the close of auction. Please make contact within the first 24 hours after auction closes. The remaining balance is to be paid via cash in hand or wire transfer. I reserve the right to relist if no contact is made. Thank you for looking and happy bidding.

Vaughn Gittin Jr. takes his dog for a drift
Tue, 09 Sep 2014
Vaughn Gittin Jr. spends a great deal of his workday going sideways, but he's usually alone in the endeavor. For a guy that is clearly a dog lover, we imagine that can get a bit lonely.
That won't be a problem for Gittin in this latest video, which features the racer hanging out with his good pal Brody (a dog) and everyone's favorite hot hatch, the Ford Fiesta ST.
Why the Detroit Three should merge their engine operations
Tue, Dec 22 2015GM and FCA should consider a smaller merger that could still save them billions of dollars, and maybe lure Ford into the deal. Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne would love to see his company merge with General Motors. But GM's board of directors essentially told him to go pound sand. So now what? The boardroom battle started when Mr. Marchionne published a study called Confessions of a Capital Junkie. In it, Sergio detailed the amount of capital the auto industry wastes every year with duplicate investments. And he documented how other industries provide superior returns. He's right, of course. Other industries earn much better returns on their invested capital. And there's a danger that one day the investors will turn their backs on the auto industry and look to other business sectors where they can make more money. But even with powerful arguments Marchionne couldn't convince GM to take over FCA. And while that fight may now be over, GM and FCA should consider a smaller merger that could still save them billions of dollars, and maybe lure Ford into the deal. No doubt this suggestion will send purists into convulsions, but so be it. The Detroit Three should seriously consider merging their powertrain operations, even though that's a sacrilege in an industry that still considers the engine the "heart" of the car. These automakers have built up considerable brand equity in some of their engines. But the vast majority of American car buyers could not tell you what kind of engine they have under the hood. More importantly, most car buyers really don't care what kind of engine or transmission they have as long as it's reliable, durable, and efficient. Combining that production would give the Detroit Three the kind of scale that no one else could match. There are exceptions, of course. Hardcore enthusiasts care deeply about the powertrains in their cars. So do most diesel, plug-in, and hybrid owners. But all of them account for maybe 15 percent of the car-buying public. So that means about 85 percent of car buyers don't care where their engine and transmission came from, just as they don't know or care who supplied the steel, who made the headlamps, or who delivered the seats on a just-in-time basis. It's immaterial to them. And that presents the automakers with an opportunity to achieve a staggering level of manufacturing scale. In the NAFTA market alone, GM, Ford, and FCA will build nearly nine million engines and nine million transmissions this year.
Volkswagen's latest ad is not subtle | Autoblog Podcast #509
Fri, Mar 24 2017On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are joined by special guest James Riswick, who has been driving a lot of new cars lately. All of them are discussed, plus a few more from Mike and David, and Mike rants a bit about a new VW Atlas commercial. The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, during which David briefly goes out into left field. (He's back now, don't worry.) The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?)
