1963 Fairlane Station Wagon - Ranch Wagon on 2040-cars

Year:1963 Mileage:99999
Location:

West Bloomfield, Michigan, United States

West Bloomfield, Michigan, United States

This is a really cool little Fairlane Wagon that will make a great project car.

You can fix it up as a unique restoration, or just add a small block & use it as a rat wagon for cruising around town.

These are pretty rare these days, and you won't find many around in any condition.  This one is in really nice shape considering its over 50 years old.

I got it in partial trade for an engine I built.  I like it but really don't have the time for yet another project car (I already own a couple).

It has a clear North Carolina title, but I honestly don't know where it came from originally.

It has a very minor amount of rust in the driver's quarter, and the bottom of the tailgate (they all seem to rust there).  Both areas should be pretty easy to repair, and the rest of the car is in darn nice shape rust wise.  One local guy offered a 1970s level low ball price & told me there was a rust hole in the rear floorboard and a mouse back there too.  I have not looked for the rear rust hole - definitely not a Flintstone car and the front floor certainly seems OK to me - that's where I sit.  I'll have not seen the mouse either but I'll throw him in for free if you find him.

The passenger side front door has a side-swipe dent in it - somebody in 1970-something probably rubbed against the gas pumps or something.  Not deep and definitely a "fix the door" - not a "replace the door" kind of damage.  The grill, bumpers and trim are all there and intact.  You could clean them up but that would disturb the "look"...buy the car and its your decision to make.

Paint is mostly original from what I can tell - very weathered, but still mostly there.  So there should be very few, if any surprises hiding in the car (besides the mouse).

Car has some old Cragars on it, and tires that hold air for transport.  You'll obviously need a trailer.

Was a 260 V8 car with 3 on the tree.  Clutch pedal etc are still there.

Interior is complete, but obviously not perfect.  Not a wreck - front seat bottom has been recovered, the rest appears original.  Headliner is drooping in back.  The mouse must've died of starvation 'cuz the insides are not torn up at all.

The reserve is rational and just there to keep me from getting hammered by a low ball deal if I screw up the listing.  Its also for sale locally so it could get sold.  Its a money talks kinda deal.

UK auto magazine says this is the best car commercial of all time [w/videos]

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

There have been many great car commercials over the years, but is it possible to define the best? Well, Ad Week recently took a crack at it by rating the top commercials of the year by looking at their view counts on YouTube, but Auto Express took a more democratic approach by putting the decision to a vote. Just after Thanksgiving, Auto Express came up with a list of the 20 popular commercials, and it tasked its readers with choosing the winner for the best car ad of all time. The winner? Honda's 2003 commercial for its then-new European Accord titled "The Cog."
While the ad never aired in the US, most car people have surely seen the impressive Rube Goldberg-style spot. In fact, the only commercial on this list that we saw on US television was the Volkswagen ad "The Force," but many of the others have become viral videos, including transforming and dancing Citroën C4. Of the 19 other commercials that vied for the title of best ad of all time, only the Ford Puma "Steve McQueen" commercial gave Honda a run for its advertising money.
Scroll down to watch Auto Express' top five commercial in order and to check out a press release, then let us know some of your favorite car commercials in Comments.

Watch this Ford F-150 SVT Raptor fly like an eagle [UPDATE]

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a very capable truck right out of the box, but "capable" has never translated into "invincible." Just ask the owner of the machine in this video. In it, the driver gets frisky with an aggressive jump with plenty of speed on his hands. The result is enough air to make Vaughn Gittin Jr. blush. As always, it's not the launch that's painful, but the re-entry. Gravity eventually asserts its dominance over the $43,630 pickup in a big way, and when it comes crashing down, it does so with a vengeance.
The impact was hard enough to set off both the alarm and multiple airbags inside the cabin. It's unclear if anyone was injured in the stunt, but we certainly wouldn't be surprised to hear that was the case. You can check out the stunt in the video below, and remember, when in doubt, back out of the throttle. Be warned, there may be some explicit/NSFW language in the clip.
UPDATE: Second video added with an even better look at the jump added below.

Detroit's new fleet of donated police cars have safety issues [w/video]

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

In a show of generosity in mid-August, Detroit's business leaders donated $8 million to the Police Department and Fire Department in order to buy 100 new police vehicles and 23 EMS ambulances. But now officers have discovered - and complained - that the police vehicles have glaring safety issues, Deadline Detroit reports. It is not made clear what models of the fleet vehicles - which include police versions of the Ford Taurus, the Chevrolet Caprice and the Dodge Charger - are affected by the safety issues.
Officers reportedly have complained that the Plexiglass partition separating front-seat officers and back-seat prisoners is easily breached, and that the front passenger seat is installed too close to the dashboard. Prisoners who manage to writhe out of their handcuffs can bend the Plexiglass and reach into the cockpit, and sitting too close to the dashboard can render airbags more dangerous and make officers more vulnerable to injury in a crash.
Mark Diaz, president of the Detroit Police Officers Association, received the complaints and reportedly said the vehicles would get safety updates addressing the issues. But Deadline Detroit reports that it checked some of the offending police cars and, as of the last few days, they hadn't been updated.
