Here is a very rare, excellent example of a 1959 Ford Galaxie Sunliner convertible. This is the model with both Galaxie and Fairlane 500 designation,. Factory colors of Colonial White over Indian Turquoise. This is a very original California car - awesome original sheet metal, very straight and pretty much zero rust. Some paint chips and scratches in paint, a few very subtle small dings. Body gaps are great, doors and deck lids line up and shut nicely. It is running the original 332 FE v8  (2bbl Holley carburetor) and the Cruise-O-Matic transmission. As far as I can tell, it has had one repaint 40+ years ago. It has a super nice, largely original interior -- I think the carpets and seat inserts have been replaced in the past. This car had been parked in a climate controlled garage at least 24 years prior to when I got it. I did spend a lot of time and $$ making repairs and upgrades to make it a really nice driver:

  • New front end and shocks complete.
  • New brakes.
  • New www bias ply tires as original.
  • New carburetor, generator, regulator, fuel pump, water pump, hoses and belts.
  • New fuel tank.
  • New convertible top and weatherstrips, hydraulic pump, lift rams and hoses.
  • Recent tune up.
  • NOS Foxcraft stainless steel fender skirts.
  • New hubcaps and accessory spinner.
This car runs and drives great! All gauges work, radio works, clock does not. It gathers a lot of attention where ever it goes, and has a really nice level of patina on it that people seem to really appreciate... many folks have said they would just leave it and enjoy it as is. Otherwise, I would say for a high point restoration, this would likely be one of the best candidates one could find. I have the Sunliner here in sunny Scottsdale, AZ... this car is currently AZ licensed and I have clear AZ title in hand. I'm moving out of the country and trying to thin the herd out a little to help with  my move. If it doesn't sell, though, it will go with me out of the country. I want to reiterate that this is not a perfect restored show car. It is a really nice driver -- a "10 footer". I will attach more photos soon. This car is for sale outside of Ebay so the auction may end at any time. I am happy to answer any questions... send me a note here or contact Greg @ 1-250-640-6479.

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.

Ford looks to space robots to improve car-to-car communications [w/video]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

Ford has partnered with St. Petersburg Polytechnic University for three years to research various kinds of connected vehicle communications. The university tie-up is part of its study of space robots, NASA systems created to enable space-to-Earth communication, and the university's own development of systems that enable communication between the International Space State and Earth.
The objective is for Ford to engineer layers of robust networks and redundancy systems that will allow your car to speak to other cars, to emergency vehicles, to infrastructure like traffic lights and buildings, and to the cloud. Benefits would come in just about every area of transit, from avoiding accidents, to getting medical workers to an accident more quickly, to improving the flow of traffic during rush hour.
Check out the press release below for details on what Ford wants to learn from the JUSTIN Humanoid and NASA Robonaut R2, and a video of technical leader Oleg Gusikhin discussing his interest in the project.

Editors’ Picks October 2022 | Electric trucks and some excellent SUVs

Wed, Nov 2 2022

This month sees a bevy of totally new or totally redesigned cars gain Editors’ Pick status. Important EVs like the F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV quickly jump into the list, and they do so with authority, as all our editors love these trucks. The Range Rover is always a superb experience, and this generation proves to be no different. Plus, the new generation of Kia Sportage continues to surprise and impress. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in October that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 GMC Hummer EV The Four-Wheel-Steer system lets the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup m View 17 Photos Quick take: The Hummer amazes as an electric supertruck with its wild acceleration, incredible off-road capability, luxuriousness and epic utility. It's far from a "green" eco-friendly vehicle, but that's not the point of this technological powerhouse. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Raptor R, Ram 1500 TRX Pros: Stupid quick, tons of tech, off-road capability in spades Cons: Not efficient, annoying in tight spaces, price From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I don't think I've driven a more ridiculous vehicle this year, but that's sort of the point with the Hummer. There's a great argument against this sort of EV in that it doesn't live up to being an efficient and planet-friendly vehicle, but hey, that's not the point. The Hummer EV is a supertruck and wild technological masterpiece for off-roading in the same way that a mid-engine supercar is to track performance. It's not meant to be the EV everybody drives to work and back (mostly because few can afford it), but it serves as a line in the sand of what can be done with electric off-road trucks. This pickup rules, and if you can afford one, you're going to love it." Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder — "This Hummer revival is a showcase of technology and capability on the part of GM, making it an absolute blast to drive and a joy to use.
