1958 Ford Fairlane Fairlane Skyliner Hardtop Convertible on 2040-cars
San Jose, California, United States
Here is a classic 1958 Ford Skyliner Hard Top Convertible available for sale. This pink & white Fairlane is in
terrific condition and ready to enjoy. Turn on the ignition, drop the power top and off you go! Car was fully
restored approximately 12 years ago (per previous owner) and has been used sparingly the last six years (and driven
less than 300 miles during that time).
It is believed to be a three owner car. Original owner was a mechanic. Car was purchased about six years ago as a
Sunday driver but current owner never really got around to driving this car. Professional and family obligations
took up most free time he would otherwise have had to enjoy the car.
Car has been properly maintained. Seats, door panels, headliner all in terrific shape. Seat belts installed for
five passengers. The car starts, runs and drives nicely and the factory hardtop works great*. Within the past few
weeks, car has received a tune-up, fluids flushed, hoses replaced, oil changed – the engine is mechanically
sound. As seen in the photos, both exterior and interior show very well.
*Upon inspection (and to the best of my knowledge), the chrome bumpers has some pitting and minor rust (nothing
serious that would deter me if I was a buyer). While the body/paint is in very, very good condition, there are some
minor rust spots – examples documented in the photos (again, if I was a buyer I wouldn’t be deterred). If you
were to stand five feet from the car, these imperfections wouldn’t be noticeable.
Car is an automatic with power windows, power steering and power assist brakes. Heating and radio works (no a/c).
Wipers do not fully operate (they will sweep the window one way but not come down). The clock, map and headliner
lights do not work. While the top goes up and down, it can be temperamental at the start. There are 1957 hubcaps on this 1958 model. Odometer works and shows approximately 79,500 miles. I would rate this
To summarize, while there are some items that need discretionary attention, this American classic Fairlane 500
Convertible is a great car for leisurely drives – a terrific boulevard cruiser to be enjoyed with the wife (or
hubby), kids or grandchildren that can also be used as a daily driver.

2015 will be the biggest year ever for cars at CES
Fri, Jan 2 2015Like the SEMA Show, major automakers are paying increasing attention to the CES, with 2015 expected to be one of the most auto focused yet. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Audi, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will all be in attendance when CES 2015 kicks off next week, taking up a record-breaking 165,000 square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We've come a long way from a single car on a carpet," Ford's Alan Hall told Bloomberg. Unlike SEMA, or a more traditional auto show, like the upcoming festivities in Detroit, CES doesn't necessarily focus on entire cars or the way they perform, but on the way our technology will interact with vehicles, and in how those vehicles will deliver information to drivers. "CES has become a major launch point for a lot of the big automakers," IHS tech analyst Mark Boyadjis told Bloomberg. "CES is a way for them to get on a global stage for technology." As for what kind of wares automakers will trot out in Las Vegas, we already know that BMW will show off an autonomous i3 electric car that can navigate its way through a multistory car park and can be hailed via a smartwatch app. According to Bloomberg, Hyundai will show off its own smartwatch app for the Genesis sedan, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz will show off autonomous vehicles next week. Automakers won't be the only companies looking to capitalize on CES. Tech firms, like chipmaker Nvidia, are becoming increasingly involved in the automotive game and will be in town showing their wares off to OEMs. "Two years ago, our booth would have been filled with PCs and people playing video games," Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's senior director for automotive business, told Bloomberg. "This year we made a strategic decision to shift the focus of the booth on automotive and de-prioritize some of the other things." Needless to say, you can expect to see a lot of news out of Las Vegas come next week. Stay tuned. Ford bringing C-Max Solar Energi Concept to CES
Thu, 02 Jan 2014Solar energy might not be enough to power a usable electric vehicle on its own, but that doesn't mean it can't lend a helping hand. And that's what Ford has in store for the Consumer Electronics Show opening next week in Las Vegas.
Ford has essentially taken its C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid and fitted it with the latest in solar panel technology developed by SunPower, acting like a magnifying glass to capture as much of the sun's energy as possible. So you get the benefit of an electric vehicle, with the range assurance of a hybrid, without needing to draw from the grid.
Ford estimates that a day of charging in the sunshine will give the C-Max Solar Energi concept the same full charge as the production PHEV, with a total range of 620 miles - 21 of which can be run on electric power alone. Otherwise the vehicle - which remains a concept for the time being - is identical to the existing C-Max Energi. The top-selling model in Ford's growing hybrid and electric vehicle portfolio helps put Ford just behind Toyota among the top seller of hybrids in America. NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs
Mon, 11 Mar 2013It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
