Offered up for sale is my 1957 Ford fairlane 500 2 door project car. I pulled this car out of a warehouse where it had been sitting for about 6 years. The previous owner had intentions of restoring the car but lost interest over time and it just sat. This is a good car to put some time and money into you can make it real sharp with a little work. The previous owner tells me the engine is a 390 FE from a mid 60's thunderbird I have never checked the numbers to confirm that. he also told me the trans was recently rebuilt before he parked it and it looks like it from the outside. After I purchased it I soaked the engine cylinders with marvel for about two weeks before checking to see if the motor was free which it was. I then put on a new carb, complete distributor, battery, starter solenoid, voltage regulator, fuel pump and coil. The wiring under the hood was in sad shape so I constructed my own harness just to get into run and removed the ignition switch from the dash so I can start it from the fender. I also have it running from a gas can I am sure the tank should be replaced or boiled out. I got the car running again and it runs pretty good. It does get a lifter tick from time to time but that is probably from sitting and needs to pump up. I have only ran it for a few minutes never attemted to drive it because of the brakes. I removed the master cylinder and booster because the pedal was frozen soild from sitting. I have done nothing else to the brakes. I have four new wheel cylinders and new front hoses that will come with the car but you will need to get a master for it. You can purchase one from speedway automotive with the power booster for about $150.00 The body looks decent it is not a barret jackson show car paint job but more of a driver quality job. the body seems real solid the floors look good as well from what i can see from underneath. It did have some rocker panel work and I am sure it has some bondo. The frame looks good as well from what I can see on the ground. I do have the rear quarter panel trim that is not on the car and it will come with it. I do have a front bumper that will come with the car but I do not have the rear, you can get one from bumper boyz the bumper I have will need rechroming. I also have aquired the missing interior window trim you will see in the trunk photo which comes with the car. The interior has had the seats redone, new door panels, rug and headliner the missing door handles are in the glove box. The car has a factory town and country radio still in the dash as well. This was an original spotlight equipeed car so it still has the hole in the dash but I do not have the spotlight for it. This is a great project car for someone with mechanical ability it is a real solid starting point. I would much rather start with something like this that some rustbucket pulled out of the woods. Someone is going to get a heck of a deal here and with some money and time could have a $15000 car easily. But like I said earlier this is not a frame off barret jackson restoration it is an unfinished attempt of a enthusiast resto. This must have been a sharp car when new if you decode the vin tag it was a woodsmoke grey with grey interior powered by a 245 hp 4 bbl 312 y-block. I do have a clear NC title for this car in my name I am not a dealer, do not offer financing, am not interested in any trades. The only reason I am selling this car is I need the space not the money, I just purchased a 55 Chevy Gasser that is sitting at a freids house until this car sells. If it does not sell I will just stick it in a storage unit but I would hate to do that. It has sat for long enough I would rather it got finished and back on the road. Please remember with the transportation for the car it is not drivable it will need to be winched onto whatever is picking it up. Please be sure to read my terms and conditions below and ask any questions BEFORE BIDDING I thank you for looking at my auction and may you have a blessed day.

Did a US automaker blow the whistle on Hyundai, Kia fuel economy issue?

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

In all of the most hotly contested mainstream segments of the motoring universe, the difference of one mile per gallon averaged on a widow sticker can mean the difference between a sale and a walk-off - to say nothing of two or three mpg. So, when Hyundai and Kia were forced to reveal that many of their 40-mpg ratings were actually 38s and 37s, well, it made for big news.
It also, conceivably, made for a competitive disadvantage immediately, when the Korean automakers' products were being shopped versus the guys down the block. And it's that disadvantage that makes a recent story from Automotive News so juicy.
AN is reporting that Margo Oge, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, got a tip in 2010 that Hyundai/Kia were "cheating" to get its impressive fuel economy numbers. The tip, said Oge (who retired from the EPA this past September), came from a senior vice president from a domestic automaker. The source was credible enough for Oge to launch an audit of the Hyundai figures, which ultimately lead to the debacle that we reported on a few months ago, and that the Korean company has been trying to bounce back from ever since.

American automakers fall in latest Fortune 500 rankings

Fri, 10 May 2013

Not that it means anything beyond bragging rights, but if you're fixated on the positions of domestic automakers on the annual Fortune 500 list, both General Motors and Ford are still on it but they've slipped a couple of notches. The list ranks American companies and they're ordered solely by revenue. GM, fifth last year, came in seventh, while Ford fell from ninth to tenth even though both companies saw small gains in annual revenue.
GM's $152.3 billion in revenue was less than a third of that of the first company on the list: Wal-Mart, which regained the title from Exxon Mobil. Berkshire Hathaway and Apple are the firms that moved GM down. Ford, displaced by energy company Valero, had $134.3 billion in revenue.
On a side note, profitability isn't a factor, but both GM and Ford were down in this year's list compared to last year's: GM declined from $9.2 billion to $6.2 billion, Ford fell from $20.2 billion to $5.6 billion. If profits were included, Exxon Mobil would probably still be king: although the energy company made almost $20 billion less in revenue than Wal-Mart's $469.2 billion, it posted $44.9 billion in profit compared to Wal-Mart's $17 billion.

Spy shooter claims proof of upcoming aluminum Ford F-Series Super Duty

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

Ford has already confirmed that the 2015 F-150 (pictured above) was just the beginning for its more extensive use of aluminum. CEO Alan Mulally said it himself during the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. We've even already seen the future Raptor testing with an aluminum body. But a recent discovery from an intrepid spy photographer might indicate that the lightweight metal is coming to the Blue Oval's Super Duty pickups in their upcoming generation, as well.
According to Automotive News, a spy shooter in Colorado spotted a prototype for the next-gen F-350 testing. He happened to have a magnet on hand and got close enough to check the truck out. When he held it up to the metal in the bed, it didn't stick, which signaled to him a switch from steel to aluminum.
Obviously, this claim raises some questions. Given that it was a test vehicle, one possibility is that the Blue Oval is just evaluating the feasibility of switching to aluminum for the Super Duty trucks, not necessarily committed to it yet. Ford has been testing it quite exhaustively, after all. In fact, much of the rest of the truck in question was covered in camouflage, so it's possible that the magnet failed to work along the rest of the body not because it was aluminum, but because it wasn't powerful enough to get through the disguising material. Thus, the lightweight metal's use could be far less substantial than on the new F-150. Still, it was a clever idea for the cameraman to check things out and might have given us the first hint about brand's next heavy-duty models.
