!965 Ford 1 Ton F-350 2nd Owner on 2040-cars
Palisade, Colorado, United States
I`ve had this workhorse 22 years. It mostly sat around or hauled light loads.since 1992. Recently sent the carb out for reman (Autolite 1100) Fuel pump & filter, 180 deg thermostat & iron housing, Water pump, Radiator hose & cap, heater hoses, battery, ignition key & lock, new clutch spring, cleaned gastank & line. Topped off tranny, tires & differential. Greased the driveline ball joints & kingpins. Fresh oil change & fram filter. restored oilbath air cleaner. The radiator was replaced with an exact replacement from Modine (oem supplier I`m told) back in the 90`s and it remains in excellent undamaged condition. Can`t call it new, but it sure looks it.
There`s no pumping the gas pedal or choking/ unchoking it, You just barely flick the key & it starts & purrs. It`s jetted & set for 5000 feet altitude. Motor is a 150 horse 240 cubic inch straight 6. Runs excellently. Trans is a New Process np435 4 speed with a super low granny gear. Differential is a Dana 70 that`s geared at I believe a 5.87:1 ratio so top end is mid to upper 50`s mph range while low end pulling power is impressive. 7.50x 16 wheels & tires, 7 of `em. The 9 ft flatbed with header & sides was made in December `64 so I`m sure it`s been on it since day one. It has factory overload springs and can haul way more than a ton. Carb & engine block still have their original tags. I watch ebay for trucks like these and see maybe 3 if that, in any given year. So either they`re rare or the people that have `em aren`t parting with them. They hardly ever come up for sale. Unlike the 1/2 & 3/4 ton pickups this one has the large inner fenders and wheel well openings and the battery compartment under the foor. You see this on factory 4wd & one ton trucks only. The upholstery needs repadded & a new cover, headliners not great, could use a windshield & rubber mounting. But the body looks to be rust free. I have a free & clear Colorado title in hand. I named her "Betty Ford" because she`s a tough ol` gal. Neither Betty is any kind of lightweight & this one just came out of rehab !

Here's how Detroit is selling more luxury vehicles than Germany and Japan
Sun, Dec 14 2014Now there's an attention-grabbing headline, eh? Although the answer to the riddle - pickup trucks and SUVs - might be somehow deflating, the numbers involved deserve a going over. According to TrueCar's figures (click on the table to enlarge), six of the year's ten best-selling vehicles in the US that sell for a transaction price above $50,000 are body-on-frame, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the only foreigner to crack the top five. Every enthusiast knows that pickup trucks are 'Murica's most popular vehicle by a colossal margin, and there have been plenty of reports about the popularity of luxuriously appointed trucks and SUVs, but compare these figures from TrueCar: 70 percent of Chevrolet Tahoe sales have a transaction price above $50K, and The Bowtie is expected to make $3.9 billion in revenue on 66,945 predicted high-dollar sales; 95.1 percent of E-Class sales break $50K, so the German company will make $4.0 billion on 67,006 predicted sales in that pricing sphere. It's about the only time you'll see the Tahoe ranked right next to Mercedes' bread-and-butter sedan. Ram is ahead of those two with $4.2B coming from $50K-plus sales. The Ford F-Series does almost as much revenue as the next three combined, with an expected $10.8 billion coming from sales of trucks over $50K - more than a quarter of the model's total sales, when a base F-150 can be had for about $26,000. Yes, the Germans make a lot more money on fewer sales, but considering the comparison, the bottom line isn't too troubled by such facts. Weighing like-for-like, the full-size Ford walks it in every category; elsewhere, the Chevrolet Silverado outsells the Ram, but the Ram outsells the Chevy by 6.7 percent above $50K. And for all the flak GMC takes over swapping out grilles, the Sierra also outsells the Chevy in the well-appointed segment, 16.1 percent of sales versus 11 percent – the Professional Grade brand is a huge profit center for The General. You'll find more info in the TrueCar press release below. TrueCar finds pickup trucks far outsell premium brands among top 10 vehicles over $50,000 Ford F-Series pickup sales over $50,000 surpass combined BMW 3, 5, 7 Series luxury car sales SANTA MONICA, Calif. (December 10, 2014) - TrueCar, Inc., the negotiation-free car buying and selling platform, finds mainstream pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles dominate U.S.
Ford using robot drivers to test durability [w/video]
Sun, 16 Jun 2013In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel.
The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world. Rather, Ford's autonomous test vehicles follow a pre-programmed course and their position is tracked via GPS and cameras that are being monitored from a central control room. Though the route is predetermined, the robotic control module operates the steering, acceleration and braking to keep the vehicle on course as it drives over broken concrete, cobblestones, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversize speed bumps.
Scroll down to watch the robotic drivers in action, though be warned that you're headed for disappointment if you expect to see a Centurion behind the wheel (nerd alert!). The setup looks more like a Mythbusters experiment than a scene from Battlestar Galactica.
Ford Explorer is America's new favorite police car
Mon, 24 Mar 2014There is a new vehicle that you should keep an eye out for when you're going a little too fast down the Interstate. Ford's Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility was the bestselling new law enforcement model in the country last year, and signs show that won't be changing anytime soon.
Ford sold 14,086 Interceptor Utilities in 2013, up 140% from the year before, and 10,897 Interceptor Sedans, up 31%, according to USA Today. Overall, the brand's police sales were up 48 percent, and they were enough to boost the company's law enforcement vehicle market share by 9 points to nearly 50 percent.
The success comes just a few years after it made the decision to finally retire the long-serving Crown Victoria-based cruiser for two more modern vehicles. "We had to reinvent the category," said Chris Terry of Ford Communications to Autoblog. The automaker had to convince police departments that a unibody chassis without a V8 could perform better than a model that had been a law enforcement staple for years.
