Selling my 1997 F 250 Ford truck, clean truck, only 126,000 miles, the truck looks fairly stock, but has been nicely modified. Mostly I was going for creature comfort, a smoother ride on a 3/4 ton truck. Some sort of ride height adjustment, The front leaf springs tend to wear out quickly with the weight of the diesel and transfer case over them. Truck was on second set and could use help before I started, Note: the dana 50 is reliant on springs for caster and camber wheel alignment. It works good on F-150 with coil springs and a lighter motor.     First the Twin I-Beam Dana 50 removed to make room for a straight axle Dana 60 Old School Front Axle w/king pins, Rebuilt before installation, new seals and universal joints and Warn heavy duty full turn manual locking 4X4 hubs (King-Pins Axle) , Much easier maintenance then( ball joints) and no caster and camber issues. The truck has new Skyjacker Soft-Ride leaf springs. To adjust the  ride height Air-Bags were installed Front and Back. Fronts are 3" compressed to 9" fully expanded. Rated1300lbs each. Rear bags are 4" compressed and 13" fully expanded. The Front Rear has a Heavy-Duty Panhard Bar to control front stability along with 3/4 of a High Steering System, Note the Steering Link from Steering Box to Passenger side Steering Knuckle is Above the Leaf-spring. The drag-link is still below.        Rear-end has Panhard Bar to keep it in True, along with Heavy Track Bars, All Adjustable Joints are Super-Pivot type, and all joints are greasable. Rear Brakes, rear parking brake cables, and brake cylinders and drums are new, and Painted. Front Brake Calipers and Pads are New the Rotors that where on dana 60 rear when purchased, where reused. All Brake Hoses and Lines are New, including the Rear Anti-Lock Brake Actuator. Both Fuel tanks are New. Frame has had rust removed, treated with por-15 Metal Ready and has been painted whit por-15 rust paint with a brush to make sure of good contact to metal. New Skyjacker Hydro 7000 Shocks all around along with Steering Stabilizer. The Air-Bag Preesure is Controled using Two Little-Larry's Manual Control Valves, Front and Back Controlled separately. (No electric two mess with). Control Valves are Mounted in Dash with a Two- Needle Gauge just above. 2 needles in one gauge. Air suspension mainly for when truck is loaded or when pulling camper or car hauler.  Air Pressure for the system comes from a New Compressor and Two- gallon tank in the Bed Tool-Box.      Power, I wanted to open up flow of the stock motor mostly, K&N Filter and a  4" Gale Banks ( Monster)Stainless exhaust would help with that, 3" from Turbo to Cat. 4" through Monster Muffler to a 5" Polished Exhaust Tip.  Intercooler has been Added to help in Power, some parts used are Banks and some are a Kit for a Mustang intercooler, works Great! All Piping 3" Polished and the 4" Intercooler is Polished also.  Gale Banks Power-Chip is Installed on Factory Computer, along with the Banks Trans-Commander is installed for nice Trans Shifts.  Always plenty of Power,  never any Nasty Black Smoke. All Banks Gauges Installed to monitor Engine Exhaust and Transmission Temps, along with a Turbo Boost Pressure Gauge, mounted on A-Pillar and has Switch to turn off gauge lights if not needed. Truck moves out nicely, 4:10 gear ratio in rears work good with the bigger tires.    Interior: New 180 Watt per-channel  JVC sat ready Stereo has been installed along with Sony Explode Speakers front and back all installed behind factory speaker Grills to keep clean looking. Has a USB port in front for I-pod or other Music Storage Device. I have owned truck for about 5 years, I have put about 25,000 miles on truck and it has never given me any problems, even starts right up in the winter, New Starter installed also.        Truck has a few character marks (dents) on it , dent on extended cab section drivers side, top of bedside on drivers side dent and some surface rust starting on passenger door behind trim on door. Truck was Zebart Treated when it was new, they drill holes in the body and spray in rust prevention coating, and has kept the body in very good condition.   The Mickey Thomson Rims have been treated with Shark Hide, seems to be keeping rims very shinny, should be good for life, (front and back of rim).Stock Aluminum Factory Rims/ Hub Caps are available for truck, they have New 10 ply tires mounted on them, for the High Boy look. Either rims and tires go with truck, both sets for additional fee.  Truck has never been used for heavy pulling, I put a trailer hitch receiver on it when I bought it with a 100,000 miles on it. Never had one Before,  I pulled a light weight 4-wheeler trailer once in a while. The trucks undercarriage makes no noise, no squeaks, no rattles, tight ! The cab is very tight, no air leaks or wind noise. Thanks for looking, selling to continue working on other projects, My # 301-876-1007 questions about truck,  thanks Hewey.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.

Ford worker files for UAW dues refund, stirs right-to-work debate

Sun, 24 Aug 2014

Let's start with some history: Ford's Dearborn truck plant, part of the company's massive River Rouge complex, was the center of a strike in 1941 that led to Ford signing the first "closed shop" agreement in the industry. The agreement obliged every worker at the plant to be a dues-paying member of the United Auto Workers. In December 2012, however, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation making Michigan a right-to-work state, which outlawed closed shops. The new law gave workers the right to opt out of union membership and stop paying dues even if they were still covered by union activities like collective bargaining. For employees at the Dearborn plant, the right-to-work clauses take effect at the end of their current contract in 2015.
As a tool-and-die maker at Ford's Dearborn plant for 16 years, Todd Lemire pays dues to the UAW - about two hours' salary per month. However, he's been unhappy with the UAW's support of the Democratic party, and not wanting to wait until next year to be out of the UAW entirely he invoked his Beck Rights, which state that a non-member of a union does not have to pay dues to support non-core activities, such as political spending. But Lemire wasn't happy that Ford still subtracted the total amount of dues, with the UAW reimbursing the difference, so he filed suit with the National Labor Relations Board, feeling that the workaround violates his rights.
Lemire's case is just a week old, so it could be a while before a resolution. Yet, as September 15, 2015 draws near and the right-to-work laws take full effect for Michigan workers - and others wonder whether it could help revitalize the state's manufacturing base - a case like this adds more fuel to the discussion.

Here's the new face of the Ford Ranger

Thu, Nov 27 2014

Ford Asia Pacific has put a teaser video on YouTube showing off details on the 2015 Ranger pickup, and at the end we get a quick glimpse of the whole truck. This is the T6 Ranger that we still don't get in North America, but that shares its underpinnings with the Everest SUV recently introduced at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. The Ranger gets a chunkier front end than the Everest, identified by its grille with three floating slats, reminiscent of designs on the previous F-150, and a less-stylized lower front bumper. Ford says it will be smarter, safer, smoother and stronger, but we'll have to wait for its reveal to find out what that means. Meanwhile, you can admire its new looks in the video below.
