Up for sale is my 2001 Ford F150 dedicated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) pickup.  Equipped with a reliable 5.4L Triton V8 engine and automatic transmission.  This truck spent most of its life in a government fleet and has only 89,986 miles!  Current CA registration is valid through April, 2015.  High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) access stickers are included, but were never installed since there aren't HOV lanes in my area.  Smog certification will be provided if required in your area.

Condition

Drivetrain

Engine runs strong with no lack of power.  NO knocks, NO smoke, NO oil leaks.  Underside of engine and transmission are bone dry.  Transmission shifts into and through all gears smoothly as it should.  Has proper acceleration and runs smoothly at highway speed.  This was a fleet maintained vehicle with regular servicing, including oil changes at proper intervals.

Exterior

Paint has most of its factory shine as you can see.  No major dents or rot on the body.  There are minor dings, scrapes and scratches.  If you look closely, you can still see evidence of the city decals that once resided on the driver and passenger doors.  Overall, the body is very straight and paint is in good condition for its age.

Interior

Interior is in good condition with average wear.  As noted in the photos, there is a small tear in the driver side of the bench seat.  Rubber floor is in good condition with no major wear.  A/C blows ice cold and heat blows hot.  LED odometer display is temperamental, but can be brought back to life by tapping on the clear cluster bezel.  This is a common problem with these trucks that can be easily fixed by re-soldering a connection on the instrument panel circuit board.  Do a quick Google search for more information on the repair if you’re interested.  This causes no interference with the odometer accuracy as it continues to advance when the display is not functioning.

Wheels and Tires

Tires have approx. 40% tread remaining.  As documented in the photos, paint on the steel wheels is beginning to flake off in spots.  Matching set of factory Ford hubcaps.  Spare tire is missing.

CNG System

This truck has three factory-installed tanks (one underneath and two in bed) with a CNG tank capacity (per owner’s manual) of 21.7 US Gasoline Gallon Equivalent (GGE) @ 3600 psi.  Typically these trucks have an average range of approx. 275-325 miles, but I have noticed this truck gets around 200 miles per fill.  Perhaps one of the solenoid tank valves is stuck in the closed position.  This repair could be as simple as repairing a bad ground or as extensive as replacing a valve.  The in-bed factory tank shroud was replaced with a more robust diamond plate aluminum cover.

Payment Details

A non-refundable deposit in the amount of $500.00 must be made via PayPal within 24 hrs of auction close.  Balance to be paid at time of pick up via certified/cashier's check from a verifiable institution, US postal money order or cash (preferred).  Personal checks will not be accepted.  Item must be picked up in Exeter, CA within 10 days of auction close, unless you make other arrangements with me in advance.

Shipping

I would prefer selling to an individual who is capable of taking delivery in person.  If you require shipping, please contact me before bidding to discuss.  Vehicle is located in Exeter, CA 93221.

Warranty

I have described the condition of this truck to the best of my ability and cited all faults that I would appreciate knowing about as a buyer.  That said, it's a 13 year old used truck and is therefore being sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me prior to bidding.

Good luck!

On Sep-20-14 at 09:01:28 PDT, seller added the following information:

The tank expiration year (2015) is clearly displayed inside the fuel filler door (see photo), but one person wanted to know the exact month.  Tanks expire in September, 2015.  Thank you and good luck.  –Matt

Ford Mustang pinball machine has supple wrist, plays by sense of smell [w/video]

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

Ford didn't have anything major to show off at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, so it seems it instead opted to have some fun - it brought a row of pinball machines to the show. Yes, pinball machines.
We originally told you about the Stern Pinball Ford Mustang machine a few days ago, and as day two of the Chicago show is a bit of a slow one, we opted to head to the show floor and get some snaps of the bank of new machines. Not surprisingly, there's plenty for the Mustang fan in each of these machines, ranging frond different models, to logos to a full model.
Take a look below for our full gallery of live shots, available up top. Then head below for our original gallery of stock images, along with a video and press release on the new machines.

2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Review

Thu, Feb 26 2015

"It's just a V6 Mustang." That phrase, so often spoken with derision and disdain, has haunted owners of Ford's more affordable and economical pony car since roughly April of 1964. Even after Dearborn finally paid some attention to its entry-level muscle car by eliminating telltale V6 features – the company fit dual exhausts in place of the single-exit pipe in 2011, negating the budget offering's biggest visual giveaway – the car was still hard pressed to shake its reputation as a hairdresser's car and rental fleet queen. For the Mustang's 50th year in service, Ford went back to the drawing board, we think with the distinct goal of eliminating the stigma of the non-V8 Mustang. While the V6 is still being offered (your local Avis and Enterprise lots wouldn't be the same without them), it's best to think of the new, four-cylinder, turbocharged Mustang EcoBoost as the entry-level model. But will the addition of forced induction – from an engine that will see action in the upcoming, enthusiast-centric Focus RS, no less – be enough to appease those pony car fans that believe that only Mustangs with eight cylinders are worthy of the galloping stallion badge? After a week at the helm, we certainly think it is. The new Mustang's looks have been covered ad nauseam. Chances are good that you either love the fastback styling, or you think the original pony car now looks a lot like a Fusion Coupe. We'll ignore the bigger styling remarks for the 2015 Mustang, and instead, focus on what's done right with the EcoBoost model. Like the V6 before it, certain boxes are correctly ticked. Dual exhausts? Check. 18-inch alloys? Check. (Our EcoBoost Premium model even shares its wheels with the base GT). HID headlamps? Check. Up front, there's a surprisingly meaty chin spoiler while the muscular lines of the 'Stang's long hood tie in nicely with the fastback shape, which terminates in a neat rear spoiler. There's even a body-colored diffuser at the back, between the chromed exhaust tips. The bottom line is, unless you're a true Mustang aficionado, you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference between the turbocharged car and its 435-horsepower brother. Simply sitting in the redesigned cabin isn't enough to give the EcoBoost away, either. The leather-trimmed seats (standard on the Premium trim) are cozy and supportive, with plenty of bolstering to help keep both driver and passenger in place while the 'Stang exhibits its newly enhanced cornering abilities.

2015 Ford F-150 spied in the rain

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

Standing as quite a contrast from the spy shots of the 2015 Ford Mustang we saw earlier today, our spies also sent along these pictures of the next-generation F-150 pickup out testing in its (heavily camouflaged) full prototype body. Much of the new truck's design is hidden under the bulky coveralls, but we expect a lot of its new lines to be inspired by the Atlas concept that debuted at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Perhaps the biggest unknown surrounding the new F-150 is what, exactly, its body will be made of. Earlier reports have suggested that lightweight aluminum materials may be used throughout, offering a serious reduction in weight versus previous models. But Ford engineers will need to be careful, though, as they need to keep a tight rein on costs while preserving class-competitive (if not class-leading) towing and payload capacity.
On the powertrain front, the new F-150 will undoubtedly carry on with EcoBoost engines, and we'd bet on a normally aspirated V8 as well. A diesel option hasn't been confirmed, but we wouldn't be surprised to see one some time in the truck's lifecycle. Mum's the word on when the production F-150 will be revealed, but our best guess is that we'll see it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
