Grants Pass, Oregon, United States

1956 Ford F100 Pickup with original Big Back Window. Some custom features: gray smoke tinted glass, no vent wings, one piece glass power windows, oak bed with custom gas tank in the rear frame under the bed, custom designed interior using the original seat in a waterfall pattern black with red piping, dark gray carpet and chrome side carpet keepers. Selling this truck for our son who is in the Air Force, recently married and having a baby. The truck has the ford 302 small block engine, the ford AOD automatic overdrive, brand new exhaust and glass packs front to rear, 22 gallon mustang fuel tank under bed, brand new balanced drive shaft, brand new 1 wire HEI distributor, all new fuel pump, water pump, plugs wires etc etc.  All new upholstery including mid fifties form fit black headliner, new mustang 2 disc brakes in front, 9" Ford drum  rear end , all brake system is brand new, new aluminum 4 core radiator with polished shroud and chrome 3000CFM 16" fan. This is an original big back window truck. Our son took it down to the bare frame and then painted the frame a chassis black paint. He wanted to keep the original front axle. He added a set of reversed eye front lowering springs. He had the entire front tin around the core support powder coated black gloss including the inner fenders.. He installed all new rubber everywhere, new body mounts, motor mounts, tranny mount. He purchased and installed the red oak bed wood and stainless strips and bolts. The back glass was missing when he bought the truck so he purchased that and then installed the 1 piece tinted windows in the doors. He filled in the dash ashtray and radio holes. He never decided what radio system he wanted so none was ever installed. He has the original heater and had it powder coated but never got round to finding a heater core or installing the heater. The chrome grill is from Bob Drake Ford along with almost $2000 worth of other goodies and chrome stuff he bought from Bob Drake. The truck has some work to do to finish it up but overall a really nice rust free example. The fenders and cab had very little body work to do and a friend of mine hammer finished, (peck and filed), what we did find.  To be quite honest, our son wanted to go  into the USAF and he just plain lost interest in all his vehicles.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

An amazing Group B rally car collection heads to auction

Tue, Jan 26 2021

Kicking off in 1982, the Group B era spawned some of the most fearsome rally cars of all time. The technologically advanced pioneers of all-wheel drive and turbocharging defined a time when automakers had carte blanche to build machines with unrestricted power, without the burden of homologating a large number of road cars to qualify. The results were sometimes deadly, leading the FIA to ban the class after 1986. Now, a collection of seven Group B monsters is headed across the block in Paris as part of the Artcurial auction, held in partnership with France's famed Retromobile show. The show has been delayed to June, however. There's a 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, one of 20 Evo II models that helped the company achieve two championships in Group B's short run. This particular example was driven by world champion Timo Salonen at the 1986 Swedish Rally, where it finished seventh due to an oil filter seal failure. Bruno Saby subsequently drove it at the 1986 Tour de Corse and Peugeot entered it at the 1986 Acropolis Rally as well. It's still registered to Peugeot Talbot Sport and represents a French technological achievement, according to Artcurial, comparable to the Concorde or TGV train. Representing Italy are a pair of Lancias in the iconic Martini livery. The Lancia 037 helped Bel Paese clinch its only Group B victory in 1983, after a hard-fought rivalry with Audi. It's one of the few Group B cars that weren't AWD, achieving its success the old-fashioned way, through lightness and superb handling. A second Lancia, a 1986 Delta S4, was the culmination of the Italian firm's later Group B efforts and one of Saby's favorites. While Group B was no more in 1987, the S4 was the predecessor to the Delta Integrale that would dominate WRC from 1987 through 1992. While the collection also includes greats like a Ford RS200, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, and MG Metro 6R4, the centerpiece is the Audi Quattro Sport S1. The ultimate Group B machine, it introduced all-wheel-drive and turbocharging to the sport. It also employed the wildest use of wings and air dams to generate downforce. Tunable up to 590 horsepower, it could rocket to 60 mph in about three seconds. The car offered for sale came straight from Ingolstadt, a 1988 model built for the Race of Champions of ex-Group B cars. The collection was amassed in the late 80s and early 90s, not long after Group B's dissolution.

Ford moving medium-duty F-Series production from Mexico to Ohio

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

A few more Ford trucks will be built in the US in the near future with news that production of the F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks will move from Mexico to Ford's Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, OH. Ford hasn't confirmed a precise timeline for the move, but The Detroit News claims the Blue Oval will make the shift later this year or in early 2015.
As Ford spokesperson Mike Levine reminded us, back in 2011, Ford announced in an investor release that it would shift production "after the [Ohio] plant stops current production of the Ford E-Series vans." According to that release, the Ohio factory will also receive $128 million in upgrades to build the new trucks, plus the F53 motorhome chassis and F59 commercial chassis.
