This is a just completed build on a very rare ride...Ford made almost 220k F100 pick-ups in '53, but only about 20k panels.

Engine is a Ford 289 V8 (low mile engine with fresh heads), backed by a 4spd toploader...they are a matched pair from a 1966 Mustang. Long list of custom and new parts: very solid body with a fresh paint job, '58 Corvette grill, frenched headlights and'59 Caddy taillights, new interior, new wheels and Silvertown radial wide whites, upgraded to power brakes with new lines, sits on a Chrysler adjustable torsion bar IFS that has been completely rebuilt (new bushings, ball joints, tie-rods, disc brakes, etc.), new wiring harness, electric fan, door poppers, reversed hood, custom dual exhaust (sweet rumble), new fuel tank, power operated vent, heat and defrost, rear lowered with reverse eye leafs and adjustable spring hangers, and on and on it goes.

This truck looks sinister and gets all the attention most people would ever want, but it is not a rat rod!! It is painted with real UV resistant satin paint...there are no rust holes...starts instantly...runs and drives and rides great...never overheats...you don't have to add fluids at every stop...and it's SAFE!

If you have questions or want to come see it, give me a buzz at 616-304-ninety-three thirty-seven. Thanks, Pat

Project Ugly Horse: Part VIII

Fri, 17 May 2013

Now With More EcoBoost
There's an EcoBoost 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in there somewhere, and it's headed straight for Ugly Horse.
For the second time in my life, I'm staring at an engine in the back of a truck with no concept of how to get it safely into the garage by my lonesome. The first time this happened, I dragged home a $300 International 345 V8 in the back of my Scout Terra only to discover that the bounds of my manliness terminated well before my ability to muscle that 800-pound cast iron block out of the pickup bed.

Ford open to diesel, hybrid or electric Mustang? [w/poll]

Sun, 08 Dec 2013

The Ford Mustang may not be the first vehicle that comes to mind when you think of environmentally-friendly forms of transportation. The arrival of the turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the new Mustang could do a lot to combat that perception, but the EcoBoost engine may just be the tip of the iceberg in that regard.
Speaking with Ford powertrain boss Bob Fascetti at the reveal of the new Mustang in Australia, GoAuto reports that the Blue Oval automaker is considering offering its latest pony car with a diesel, hybrid or even electric powertrain in the future.
"We're not looking at diesel at the moment, but given where we need to go with fuel consumption we are looking at all our options," said Fascetti. Other options could include a nine- or ten-speed automatic transmission to replace the current six-speed unit in order to help improve fuel economy and emissions for the Mustang, although figures for the current lineup have yet to be revealed.

Long winter means most automakers won't curb summer shutdown

Sun, 18 May 2014

A lot more happened during this latest brutal winter than days of snow and Netflix binges. Automotive sales took a battering. After all, going out car shopping when it's eleventy-billion degrees below zero isn't a good time.
Because of this Old Man Winter-induced sales slump, inventories are abnormally high as we head into the summer car buying season. That's led some analysts to predict that automakers will be more inclined to idle factories this summer, in a bid to trim some of the built-up inventory. Traditionally, American manufacturers offer up a two-week break in the middle of summer, although the burgeoning sales of the past few years have seen this practice become less popular.
"We're likely not going to see an acceleration this year," Jeff Schuster, a senior vice president at LMC Automotive, told The Detroit News. "We'll see production increases in 'pockets' but I don't know if it will be as widespread as in recent years."
