Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:

2016 Ford F-150 Limited 4x4 to start at nearly $62,000

Tue, Sep 15 2015

The starting price of the top-of-the-line Ford F-150 has crested the $60,000 mark. This was, to be entirely honest, a long time coming, as consumers have shown a willingness to gobble up increasingly lavish pickups over the past five to ten years. According to Cars Direct, the four-wheel-drive-equipped 2016 F-150 Limited rings up at $61,905, or just $15 less than Ford's previous range-topping luxury model, the Lincoln Navigator. Of course, you can get a cheaper Limited if you really needed to. Opting for just rear-wheel drive will lower the price to $58,480. Not only do these figures eclipse the price of any other F-150 before them, they easily exceed the starting figures of competitive luxury pickups. The previous top-of-the-line, F-150 starts at just $52,780, while the two-wheel-drive competitors from GMC, Chevrolet, and Ram – the Sierra Denali, Silveardo High Country, and 1500 Limited – start at $51,210, $49,810, and $51,870, respectively. The new F-150 model adds plenty of bling – there's "LIMITED" lettering on the hood and big, bold, 22-inch wheels – along with power running boards, a panoramic roof, heated/cooled/massaging Mojave leather seats, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera. Least reliable cars and trucks of 2022

Tue, Nov 15 2022

Related: Most reliable cars and trucks of 2022   Every year, Consumer Reports ranks new cars based on their predicted reliability. We often see Toyota, Lexus, and a few other automakers near the top. But on the other side of the coin, the list of least reliable vehicles sometimes contains surprises.   The organization surveys its members to determine the vehicles that exhibited the most problems over the prior year. Owners are asked about creaks and rattles, the durability of parts and trim, and mechanical issues. Consumer Reports assigns a weight to each problem and then uses them to create a score, with 100 being the best. Some familiar names appear on the list of least reliable vehicles (in order with the lowest predicted reliability score at the top), but there are a few eyebrow-raising models, followed by CR's score: Ford F-150 Hybrid: 4 Hyundai Kona Electric: 5 Lincoln Aviator: 8 Nissan Sentra: 9 Ford Explorer: 16 Chevrolet Bolt: 17 Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500: 19 Jeep Gladiator: 21 Mercedes-Benz GLE: 23 Jeep Wrangler: 24 Consumer Reports noted that sedans are the most reliable vehicle category and found that trucks are far lower on the list. That said, the survey showed that trucks from American brands tended to have better reliability scores, so it’s surprising to see GMÂ’s big two and the Ford F-150 on the list. Part of their problematic ownership experience could be due to the fact that all three trucks have received recent updates, and the Ford was completely redesigned for 2022. New tech, fresh drivetrain components, and other improvements can upset the balance of reliability and make newer models look less dependable than their older counterparts.
