Up for auction is a totally customized 1992 Ford Explorer Sport with low mileage.  This SUV is the 2 door, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive V6 model. I have owned this SUV since 1997 and I'm only selling it, because I'm moving and can't take it with me.  My loss is your gain!  The customization on this SUV was completed about 10 years ago, so most of the equipment is older.  This SUV has been garage kept for the past 10 years.  This is a great SUV for an auto enthusiast or for someone who would want to continue to customize this vehicle.

The exterior has a professional custom paint job which features a silver base coat and multi-color graphics, shaved door handles/locks with a remote pop kit, shaved emblems, a shaved rear wiper and a shaved roof rack.  The only door handle that remains is the one for the rear window/tailgate, just incase you should blow a fuse you can still get in.  The exterior also has a custom license plate enclosure, custom front and rear bumper's, a 1990's Chevy Suburban euro taillight conversion, 20" Chrome Arelli Dilemma wheels and a custom air ride suspension with 2 custom painted 5 gallon air tanks that are mounted inside the SUV on top of the stereo enclosure.

The interior of this SUV has tinted windows, gray vinyl seats with black trim, stock carpet, stock door panels and a stock dash with an aftermarket carbon fiber type trim kit, a custom sound system with custom enclosure, 4 TV's - 1 in the Pioneer AVX-P7000 head unit, 1- roof mounted flip down unit and 1 in each of the back of the drivers and passenger side front seats.  The interior also features a Sony Playstation 1 mounted in the center console with 2 controllers, a VCP player and a Pioneer XDV-P9 six disc CD/DVD changer.  Currently only the PlayStation and the DVD/CD changer are hooked up, you will need to install an additional AV switcher if you would like to use the VCP player as the Pioneer AVM -P8000R tuner only has 2 inputs.  The custom enclosure was wrapped in gray vinyl and houses all the wiring, fuses, a Optima Yellow top battery, the VCP, DVD/CD changer, 3 - 12" Kicker L7 Solo Baric's and a custom amp rack with plexiglass cover for the Kicker ZR1000 and ZX460 amps.  I will include the remote for the Pioneer AVX-P7000 and the AVM -P8000R that controls the DVD changer.  I also have the original box's for the Pioneer AVM-P800R and the Pioneer XDV -P9 CD/DVD Changer.

Everything under the hood is stock in this SUV with the exception of a couple of painted trim pieces, the air filter and a Optima Red Top starting battery which was replaced two weeks ago.  I will also include 2, 1 amp trickle chargers.  I use these to keep the batteries ready to go since it sit's in the garage most of the time.

This SUV is in good condition for a vehicle of this age.  It only has minor wear and tear inside and out.  No major problems that I am aware of.  I got the SUV out of the garage last weekend to take pictures of it and everything seemed to work properly.  The only issues that I am aware of are, the tires should be replaced, they hold air properly and have plenty of tread left, but I think they have flat spots from sitting in the garage.  The rear tailgate shocks will need to be replaced, the tailgate won't stay open without someone or something holding it up.  From what I've been told this is a cheap and simple fix.  The passenger front door leaked a little water the last time I washed it.  It looks like it's missing one of the pop rivet's on the seal, or it may need a new seal.  Again, this should be another cheap and easy fix.  The rear neon license plate light did not illuminate when I turned the headlights on.  The windshield has a small star in the center of it and there is a small rust spot above the windshield seal on the roof, it has never leaked.  A portion of the tailpipe was cut off the muffler due to the placement of the air ride lines.  You should be able to have another tailpipe installed and rerouted if you don't like the louder exhaust sound.

All of the information in this auction is to the best of my knowledge, I am not a car expert.  No warranties or refunds are offered on this vehicle.  This is a no reserve auction.  A deposit of $500.00 is due within 24hrs after the auction ends and the SUV must be picked up and paid in full within 72hrs after the auction ends.  The buyer is responsible for the full cost and arranging shipping to their location.  I would recommend that this vehicle is transported/shipped on a trailer due to the amount of customization.  Winning bidder is also responsible for all cost associated with registering this vehicle in their name.  If you have any questions, please ask.  Good Luck!

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.

Ford F-150 bumps Camry from top of Cars.com American Made Index

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

With July 4th just around the corner, what better time could there be for Cars.com to announce that the Ford F-150 is the Most American car of 2013? This may be especially true since it was the Toyota Camry, a car produced by a company based in Japan, that had held the top spot from 2009 to 2012.
Cars.com compiles its Most American list by considering the amount of parts each vehicle uses that come from America, where it's final assembly takes place and how many units per year are sold. "While the assembly point and domestic parts content of the F-150 didn't change from 2012-2013, vehicle sales are responsible for bumping the F-150 to the top spot," according to Patrick Olsen, Editor-in-Chief of Cars.com.
As far as automakers go (as opposed to individual models), Toyota retains the top spot it held in 2012, with General Motors, Chrysler, Ford and Honda (in that order) rounding out the list. The motivation behind this list each year, according to Olsen, is "to help car shoppers understand that 'American-Made' extends beyond just the Detroit three" and because "a study we conducted in 2012 indicated that 25 percent of shoppers surveyed preferred to buy American."

Ford opens the doors on its Swedish rally skunkworks

Fri, 19 Sep 2014

It's always amazing to see how different kinds of racecars are made. Formula One racers are often constructed in modern architectural marvels that hint at some of the cutting-edge technology going into the racing. Conversely, rallying is all about sliding around on a varied course as fast as possible, but it often leaves a vehicle caked in mud. So it makes some sense Olsbergs MSE, or simply (OMSE) rally car shop in Nynashamn, Sweden, shows technological sophistication in a more down-to-earth setting. It builds Ford Fiesta ST racers for Global Rallycross there, and this new video gives viewers a tour through the work.
Former rally driver Andreas Eriksson runs OMSE. These days instead of racing, he and the company's 46 employees are building Ford racers from scratch. A ton of work goes into constructing each one, and according to Eriksson, it takes 400 hours to complete each body. At times, things are so busy that some of the technicians live in the shop in apartments that are on premises. There's even a restaurant to keep them fed. Sadly the dyno room is empty during this visit, though.
By the time OMSE is done, a rallycross car might resemble a Fiesta ST on the outside, but as you see in the video, it's a completely different beast underneath. Check out the work it takes to build one of them, and scroll down to read more about it in the official release.
