2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Sport Utility 4-door 4.0l on 2040-cars
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
For sale is my 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. This was my regular driver from 2005 to 2013. It now has apx. 190,000.miles. I had just got the Explorer a new PA inspection in the summer of 2012. New tires, brakes etc. Early 2013 the tranny started acting up. Rough shifting. I just parked it. I started driving one of my work vans. I called a tranny shop and got a verbal quote around $1500.00. I have never had it to the shop to get officially diagnosed. I am selling it with the assumption that it will need re built, or replaced. If it is something else then it will be a bonus to the winning buyer. It still can be driven. I don't know how far. I actually had it on the highway for a stretch and after it shifted through the gears it drove OK. I do not make any guarantees that you can drive it back home to ?? Check out the pictures I just took them for this auction. This Explorer always drove great. No known mechanical issues(other than the tranny). Only has a couple of thousand miles since the PA sticker was put on. Once again it has been sitting for about a year and a half. Brand new battery. The Explorer still looks great. The paint looks good. Some paint chips, some small rust bubbles, scratches, door dings etc. It is a 12 year old car that was a regular driver. The interior is in very nice condition. A little wear on the drivers seat. Good door panels, back seats are great. Carpets good. Glass good. Everything works. Moonroof, windows, locks, cruise, stereo with 6 pack CD. One of the pre sets ate my CD. Just coughed it up the other day. Air still blows cold. No third row. I kept it expecting to put the money in to repair it. I bought an older Navigator last summer. I just invested a grand into that to get a fresh inspection. Time to sell the Explorer. I do have it advertised locally and already have some interest. I was offered $1500.00. today. That is where I will start the bidding with no reserve. If you are local and want to come by and check it out let me know. Any questions just ask.

Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Toyota Tundra flunk IIHS headlight test
Tue, Oct 25 2016The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety put pickup truck headlights to the test and found that the majority of them were equipped with subpar units. The 2017 Honda Ridgeline was the only truck to earn a rating of "good." The large pickup truck test was comprised of the: 2016 to 2017 GMC Sierra, 2017 Nissan Titan, 2016 Ram 1500, 2016 to 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, 2016 to 2017 Ford F-150, and 2016 to 2017 Toyota Tundra. The Sierra's headlights earned a rating of "acceptable," the headlights found on the Titan and Ram 1500 were found to be "marginal," and the ones on the Silverado, F-150, and Tundra were rated as "poor." IIHS claims the F-150 was the most disappointing out of the large pickup trucks as both its halogen and optional LED headlights failed to provide adequate visibility during testing. The Ridgeline (which earned a "good rating"), is usually considered a midsize or small truck, though IIHS included it in the field of large pickups. The headlights on the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, 2016 GMC Canyon, 2016 Nissan Frontier, and 2016 to 2017 Toyota Tacoma, which made up the small pickup truck group, all earned a rating of "poor." The IIHS claimed the Colorado had the worst headlights of any truck that was tested, as the base vehicle's units were only able to illuminate up to 123 feet in front of the car. The Ridgeline's headlights, for reference, were able to illuminate up to 358 feet in front of the vehicle. To conduct its test, the IIHS utilizes a special tool to measure how far light is projected out of the headlights in different driving situations. The trucks' headlights were tested in a straight line and in corners, while vehicles with high-beam assist were given extra praise. The headlights on the pickup trucks also mimic the testing that was done on small SUVs and cars earlier this year. Next year, automakers will need to fit their vehicles with headlights that earn a rating of either good or acceptable to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Related Video:
NHTSA closes investigations into Ford Taurus, Hyundai Santa Fe
Wed, 03 Jul 2013Ford and Hyundai are out from under the scrutinizing eyes of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after the government agency said it was closing investigations against both automakers over vehicle safety concerns.
Ford was being investigated for reported damaged speed control cables on Ford Taurus (shown above) and Mercury Sable models, both built between 2000 and 2003. Vehicles with the company's Duratec engines allegedly failed to allow owners to brake as expected. Owners lodged 100 complaints and were involved in five accidents, according to NHTSA records. The American automaker responded to the reports, and on June 21 of this year, said that it would inspect and repair all affected vehicles, regardless of the mileage.
Hyundai was under investigation for a reported loose fastener on the steering shaft of its 2011 Santa Fe (shown in the gallery below). After NHTSA launched its inquiry, the Korean automaker responded with its own investigation that yielded four affected vehicles. Following the inspection of 680 vehicles at its assembly plant, Hyundai said the issue was due to employee error and that no further defects have been found.
NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue
Mon, 29 Oct 2012A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.
