I have too many vehicles!  You are looking at a 2002 Ford Explorer that I have invested roughly $4000 fixing up only to decide we wanted a different car before I got it back from the shop...  So here we go:   The transmission and rearend have almost 0 miles on the rebuild (I only drove it home from the shop).  The transmission and transfer case shift smooth.  The rear wheel bearings were replaced at that time as well.  All work was done by an ASE certified technician.  Rear Tires have about 90% tread life left and front tires have less than 100 miles on them.  I put a new battery in it last month.  Motor is solid.  I have no concerns with the drivetrain on this vehicle.  I would have no reservations about taking off cross country in it today!

The exterior of this vehicle is in pretty good shape for its age and for having 118,460 miles on it.  However, The plastic on the bumper is popped loose on the left rear but is barely noticeable and an easy fix (see picture).  There is a minor nickel-sized door ding on the right rear door.  There are some minor rock chips and blemishes as u would expect on a vehicle of this age.  But as I said, it's in pretty good shape.

The seats are all leather.  The driver's seat shows considerable wear but is comfy.  The passenger seat is also showing wear but not as bad as the driver's seat (see pictures).  The rear seats are in excellent shape.  There was a sizeable stain on the carpet in the hatch when I took the pictures but my wife put some elbow grease into it and was able to get it out.  Also, the left rear power window is not working and the compass only works part of the time.

The heat and air conditioner work great!

I have two keys and two fobs.  The keypad on the door functions properly.

I am not a dealer!  This is the car my wife and I drove everyday and I truly believe this is a good, reliable vehicle.  Please feel free to drive this vehicle before you bid.  If you have any questions I should be able to answer them for you.

Serious bidders only please!  I have already sold this vehicle once but the winning bidder did not pay.  I think he had a legitimate excuse but it creates a real headache when that happens.

Thanks for looking, Happy bidding, and good luck

As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?

Mon, Feb 9 2015

North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper. Ford 'working very hard' on F-150 hybrid

Thu, Dec 4 2014

The lighter, aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 gets (at best) 26 miles per gallon. That's not bad for a truck that size – and we should always remember that improving gas guzzlers can make a big difference – but what if the popular truck came with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain? How efficient would that be? We heard Ford talking about such a vehicle last year, and now we learn that Ford is still "working very hard" to make a F-150 hybrid happen. You want details? Well, we all want details, but those will not be coming for quite some time. Last year, Ford's global product development chief, Raj Nair, said that the company was planning to have hybrid pickups and hybrid SUVs on sale by 2020. With fuel prices dropping, Nair is now saying that a hybrid F-150 makes more sense, financially, than a diesel, but Ford could make both options available, depending on customer demand. The diesel wouldn't require all that much work, Nair said, since "we've got diesels in the portfolio." To date, the only hybrid F-150s we've seen have been conversions, often PHEVs, like this example from HVET or this one from Quantum. Pickup trucks from other manufacturers haven't been greeted with huge sales numbers. General Motors stopped making its big two-mode hybrids and cancelled the next-gen program.

Ford Transit production fires up, American Pickers among first takers

Wed, 30 Apr 2014

Not long ago, the History Channel showed a seemingly unending stream of World War II documentaries, but it made a switch a few years ago to include an increasing mix of 'reality' programming. American Pickers was one of the early attempts at this new formula, with cameras following hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz around the country in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as they tracked down collectibles and "rusty gold" for their Iowa shop, Antique Archeology. The show has since gone on to become one of the channel's most popular programs.
Starting in the new episode airing tonight, the affable hosts will swap their Benz for a 2015 Ford Transit, a nicely timed bit of marketing to coincide with the launch of the model's assembly at the Blue Oval's Kansas City Assembly Plant, which also kicks off this week. Ford is touting 2,000 new jobs created as part of its $1.1-billion investment in the plant.
No strangers to product placement, the guys from American Pickers say their switch away from the Sprinter is because they wanted to balance cargo capacity and fuel economy to make the most of their cross-country jaunts. They opted for the largest Transit available with a long wheelbase, extended body and high roof, giving them 487 cubic feet of cargo room. Hauling power comes from a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. Fittingly, the van wears the same Antique Archaeology logo over white paint as their old Sprinter.
