1997 Ford Explorer Awd 5.0 Ho on 2040-cars
Denver, Colorado, United States
Greetings viewer,
I'm selling off my 1997 Ford Explorer XLT AWD 5.0. This explorer has been well cared for and always maintained. This explorer is not your average POS explorer, nor is it in stock condition. I am the 3rd owner, it lived in New Jersey until about 2005, and then it was used as a vacation car in a Breckenridge condo, where it was garaged. Since I purchased this explorer I have overhauled the entire drivetrain as well as majority of the suspension and steering components. The original motor blew up a few summers ago so it now has a rebuilt 89 Mustang GT HO 5.0. Here are the details: 1997 Ford Explorer XLT AWD 177K miles, 10K miles on the motor All time AWD Automatic Transmission Dual power seats Heater blows hot front and back 60/40 split rear seats Drivetrain -1989 Ford Mustang 5.0 HO 302ci Small block (had about 80k on it when rebuilt) -Explorer 5.0 GT40 upper and lower intake, polished runners -Torque Monster Headers (Specs can be found at TorqueMonster(dot)com -Block rebuilt with new rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, cylinders honed. -GT40P cylinder heads (fully rebuilt and tested for cracks, crack free!) -Homemade Air intake setup with Lexan box to help with heat -Mustang GT roller cam -Transmission serviced -Rear diff serviced -Front diff serviced -Brand new battery Wheels, Tires, Suspension: -15" black steel wheels -31X10.5X15 General AT2 all terrain tires (pre drilled for studs) (12k on the tires) -All new Monroe sense-trac shocks -New Moog lower and upper ball joints, upper control arms, inner and outer tie rods Accessories: -Thule roof rack (mounts and cross bar) -Aftermarket headlights (pass side seal is bad, I have a new seal ordered, I will fix) -Autometer Ford Motorsport branded Water temp and oil pressure gauges (rare!) Bad/Needs some TLC: -Aftermarket stereo deck sucks and needs to be replaced -Needs front brake pads and rotors. They were cheap, they work, but they aren't the greatest. -Caught a golf ball in the windshield at about 60mph on I70 one day, no visibility problems, but should be replaced some day. -Drivers side door lock switch doesn't work, I've replaced the switch so it's a broken wire, pretty common with Fords and usually breaks at the door hinge. -Autometer water temp gauge needs a new sending unit, available from Autometer for about $20 -There is a dashlight or two out in the gauge cluster; I have replacements, just not installed -Turn signal stock has issues in the cold; I have a replacement, just not installed -A/C needs to be filled. It worked excellent, but I had to drain it when I installed the motor, usually about $50 to fill -Small exhaust leak on the two-piece drivers side header. Have the correct bolts to repair it, just not installed. This explorer is in great condition and needs a new home. Never been off road other than the occasional graded gravel road. Fluids changed on the regular. I have owned explorers for 10+ years and I know them inside and out. I know what this explorer is worth and I am going to be completely fair with the price, and you're getting a hell of a deal. Don't call low-balling the price; I don't have time for that. I am open to reasonable negotiation only. $3900 I'm sure I missed some details, so please email, Call or text 720.891.8oh-two4 Located in Denver, CO |

Ward's reveals annual 10 Best Engines list for 2013
Thu, 13 Dec 2012Ward's Auto has released its annual 10 Best Engines award winners. The 2013 list covers the full width and breadth of the internal combustion spectrum, from a spate of efficient four-cylinders to the most powerful production V8 on the planet. As always, the entries must be available in a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2013 with an MSRP of less than $55,000. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Audi S5 held on for the fourth consecutive year, and BMW earned two spots on the list with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
Ford pulled in two awards for its 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and and the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500. Honda matched BMW and Ford with two wins of its own. Wards awarded the 2.4-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Accord Sport as well as the 3.5-liter V6 from the Honda Accord. Chrysler, General Motors and Subaru each garnered a spot on the list as well for the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500, the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Cadillac ATS and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder the Subaru BRZ, respectively. NHTSA investigating Ford Fiesta for faulty door latches
Mon, 15 Sep 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation on the 2011-2013 Ford Fiesta because the regulator has received 61 complaints from drivers, including one claim of an injury, about the doors on the subcompacts failing to latch and sometimes even flying open while driving. NHTSA has estimated that the problem could affect as many as 205,000 vehicles.
NHTSA is still gathering further data about the problem, but looking at the complaints so far, both front and rear doors appear to be potentially involved with the alleged failures. Among the reports, there are 12 claiming that the door opened while driving. Several also indicate the "Door Ajar" warning illuminating during this problem. The one purported injury happened when someone attempted to shut the door, and it bounced back.
Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker told Autoblog via email, "We are cooperating with NHTSA on this investigation, as we always do." Scroll down to read the report from NHTSA.
Ford pulling out of V8 Supercars after 2015
Tue, Dec 2 2014Australian racing fans are staring down the end of an era as news breaks that Ford will no longer participate in the V8 Supercars series. Although the official announcement has yet to be made, the decision – as reported widely in the automotive press Down Under and in global motorsport publications – indicates that the Blue Oval automaker has already confirmed its intentions to its shareholders early on Monday to shut down its factory effort in the popular tin-top series at the end of next season. The move will mark the end of an era for what has become the International V8 Supercars Championship. Alongside GM's Holden division, Ford was one of only two manufacturers competing in the series from its inception in the late 1990s through last year when a change in regulations opened the door for entries from Nissan, Volvo and Mercedes. Further rule changes are expected to attract even more manufacturers to the series, with Lexus said to be first among them. Over the past eighteen seasons, the V8 Supercars Championship has been won in a Holden Commodore fourteen times, leaving Ford to win the title only four times with successive versions of the Falcon. Eleven of the cars on the grid this season were Commodores, compared to only seven Ford Falcons between two teams that will need to switch to another manufacturer for the season after next – although some could opt to stick with their Fords for one more season, even without factory support, until the open 2016 regulations take effect. The decision follows Ford's announcement last year that it will cease manufacturing in Australia by 2016, ending a 90-year presence Down Under that stretches back to 1925. Blue Oval models like the Falcon, previously unique to the Aussie market, are being replaced by imported models like the Mondeo and Mustang.
