Vehicle Description
PRESENTING A VERY CLEAN HARD TO FIND 2006 FORD ESCAPE XLT SPORT ALL WHEEL DRIVE 4WD V6!
POWER WINDOWS - POWER LOCKS - CRUISE CONTROL - AM FM CD  AUDIO - AND MUCH MORE!

This Ford Escape has a little bit for everyone. It's the perfect SUV if your looking for versatility, economy, and plenty of space to haul what you want. The AWD 4WD system allows for plenty of Towing power as well. This vehicle has been well maintained and it clearly shows. Very clean both inside and out. The vehicle has a very high Vehicle History Score rating of an 87 out of an average low end of 74 and high of 85. This vehicle scores way above the average Ford Escape. We have provided you with a FREE VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT for your convenience. Simply click on the score below and see for yourself and explination of how a vehicle gets scored and the actual vehicle history report for yourself.

Exterior
The Escape has a facelift in 2005. The face-lift included new front and rear fascias, an eggcrate grille, new headlights and restyled wheels. Traditional styling resembles Ford's full-size SUVs and trucks, though on a smaller scale. The rear liftgate has a flip-up window that opens separately.

The four-door Escape rides a 103.2-inch wheelbase, has a four-wheel-independent suspension and uses unibody construction. Dark Shadow Grey fascias, cladding and wheel-lip moldings highlight the XLT.

Interior
Rather than the column-mounted gearshift previous models used, the current Escape features a console shift lever. Each Escape seats five people on two front bucket seats and a 60/40-split, folding rear bench. Cargo volume behind the rear seat measures 29.3 cubic feet. Standard equipment includes a CD player, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and power windows, locks and mirrors.

Under the Hood
This XLT Sport and Limited models use a 200-hp, 3.0-liter V-6, which comes only with the automatic. This Escape is equipped with the new Intelligent four-wheel drive, which engages automatically to maintain traction. An optional towing package for the V-6-equipped Escape allows it to haul 3,500 pounds.

Safety
Antilock brakes are standard and have Quick Brake Assist. A Safety Canopy side curtain-type airbag system with rollover protection is optional.

Driving Impressions
The Escape is easy to drive and quite stable on the highway. It steers with a very light touch, which imparts a sufficient level of confidence. Frisky performance emanates from the V-6 engine, and the Escape accelerates from a standstill with spirit. The automatic transmission shifts capably and without lumpiness — it's quite smooth for a truck.

This week, David Gluckman and Mike Austin talk sports cars of all kinds. We hit the week's big Mustang news, talk about a variety of cars we've been driving, and then respond to some questions from listeners. We also threw in a trivia question for you to ponder while you listen. The rundown is below. Ringbrothers shows off Coyote-powered 1968 Mercury Cougar

Thu, Feb 25 2021

We'll openly admit that not every SEMA build is our cup of tea. But this? A tastefully resto-modded 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 460-horsepower Ford Mustang V8? Yeah, this is right in our wheelhouse. Sadly, there was no in-pwerson SEMA show in 2020, so we missed out on gems like this one. SEMA or no SEMA, the aftermarket carries on, and co-owners Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers (get it?) saw no reason to let their time and effort go to waste.  When they're not building wild customs (see: 1,100-horsepower 1972 AMC Javelin AMX) or more subtle showcases (such as this Cougar or their 1971 K5 Chevy Blazer build from 2018), the folks at Ringbrothers crank out factory reproduction parts, whether for old-fashioned restoration or modification purposes. While '60s muscle cars are recurring build subjects for the two, the Cougar was the first of its kind they tackled.  Keeping it in the family, Ringbrothers sourced a Ford 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and a 10-Speed Automatic (lifted from an F-150 Raptor, incidentally) for the build. They didn't stop with the driveline, of course. The suspension was overhauled with a little help from DSE and a set of HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels were thrown over upgraded brakes.  "We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception," Jim said. "The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today." "While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon," Mike said. "We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas." There's plenty to appreciate about this Cougar apart from the mechanicals, too. The finish is Augusta Green Metallic (courtesy of BASF), which was a factory color in 1968. You may know it by another name: Highland Green. There are a few custom exterior touches, but they're quite subtle and styled to be period-correct. The interior was also restored and updated, and it's where you'll find the only thing we're not fond of: that big, fat truck shifter. Gearbox choices notwithstanding, it's a bit of an eyesore. But considering how gorgeous the rest is, we'll give it a pass.  Related Video:

The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid

Wed, Feb 18 2015

Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
