VERY RARE -- Off Road Capable

1985 Ford Econoline E-350 1 ton 4x4

EXTENDED LENGTH AMBULANCE

Collins truck body mfg. w/4" additional lift.

460 (7.5L) big block, heavy duty C-6 automatic, manual locking hubs, divorced transfer case, PS-PB, front & rear A/C

I purchased this ultra cool beast from an AZ mountain community fire department just north of Phoenix (ground pumice used on roads in winter --not salt -- pumice does not corrode metal). Original title is still in the name of the Fire Dept. and has been notarized for release and is ready to transfer to new owner.

All emergency FLASHING LIGHTS - SIRENS - HORNS - BUZZERS - PA SYSTEM - INTERIOR LIGHTS - EXTERIOR LIGHTS - KC FRONT SPOT LIGHTS - everything still connected and STILL WORKING GREAT.

Low miles--only 82,100.

Please see 4 wheel drive transfer case control and dual battery control on floor near driver. Battery controler switches from single to both batteries, or to complete disconnect. Batteries are 6 months old. Heavy duty alternator provides extra charging and running of all lights and equipment. No cracks in dash, NO RUST anywhere in body. Minor paint touch ups here and there but almost no body damage. Please see photos as I've tried to show any and all damage, but it is very hard to see (left front dent & grill chrome delamination at cowl, and rear step). Tires (35"x12.5x16's) are 50% tread at best. I think 37's would fit with no problem. Polished aluminum 16" faux bead lock rims are very nice.

Includes high lift jack and spare tire (see photos). Please note special area behind driver (lockable with key) for spare & high lift jack storage---this seems to confirm story from fire department that this was a special 4x4 only ambulance body equipped for high ground clearance, hence this conversion was performed prior to delivery to fire department when new. I have never seen another 4x4 Econoline set up like this. See letters section below.

Dual fuel tanks, and both tanks and sending units are operational with switch at dash.I added a tow hitch receiver under rear step but this is NOT directly attached to frame. The steps are frame mounted and this setup feels plenty secure, but I would use only for towing small lightweight motorcycle style trailers or similar.

FLAWS THAT I CAN SEE: I can hear an exhaust leak at one side manifold. Some oil drips at various places under motor. Broken plastic at passenger side above rear bench. Linoleum flooring beginning to wear out. Small rip in naugahyde backrest of bench seat in rear. Front driver seat material has a few splitting seams.

No ceiling water stains or any leaking evident from roof extension. This is a very clean and sano rig.

Please note that there is A LOT of interior storage: multiple and various cabinets (doors close tightly and do not rattle), underneath both rear bench and jump seats, and inside spare tire well behind driver. There are numerous interior high intensity lights in ceiling. Hi intensity exterior flood lights at front, rear, and both sides. Sliding interior door is a bit sticky, but all other doors operate smoothly and close tightly.

Interior & exterior power supplies are numerous. There appears to be some oxygen lines and valves still connected here and there, with gauges. Antenna for CB or two way radio still present on roof, with wires running to dash tucked in and out of sight.

This van drives very tight---excellent power and great brakes. Very tight steering too. No rattles inside when driving. This is a really good rig that's a blast to drive. You'll be the only kid on the block with one of these, that's for sure. This is a super cool old-school style 4x4 that's in remarkably good shape.

This would make a great 'bugg-out' van, off road or desert camper van, or mobile motorcycle repair? Still has most of the gurney mounts attached so due to it's low mileage this could still be used as an ambulance as well. There are endless opportunities for the creative mind. This thing is big and TALL. It's almost 9 feet to top of light bar so keep that in mind.

Please remember that this has always been an Arizona Fire Department operated and maintained truck. These guys keep on top of all maintenance issues, so it's safe to assume that this truck has always been well taken care of.

Sunday Drive: Volvo hits a crossover home run, and people still love sports cars

Sun, Sep 24 2017

Looking back at the week that just was clearly tells us at least three things. First, crossovers don't have to be boring. Second, people still love sports cars, from the attainable (Audi TT RS) to the fanciful (Mercedes-AMG GT C). And finally, the traditional German trio of premium luxury brands had better not rest on their laurels, because credible challengers are coming in from every direction. The biggest reveal of the week, at least judging by the interest of Autoblog readers, was the Volvo XC40. Not only is the little 'ute a looker, it introduces some innovative new buying/leasing schemes designed to appeal to an audience accustomed to trading in and trading up every couple of years. Think of Volvo's flat-fee lease as you would a smartphone contract, and you'll be on the right track. Genesis looks to have a hit on its hands in the form of the G70 sport sedan. We took a Korean-spec model for a spin and found a lot to like about the upstart contender. We can't wait to sample one here in the United States to see how it stacks up against the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. In other news, we're still really excited to see a production Ford Ranger Raptor. But if you just can't wait for the official reveal — it's OK, neither can we — take a look at the renderings in our post down below. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.

Solid axle? What solid axle?
I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation.
This should not have gone this easily. Having a long and checkered history of simple projects punctuated by much wailing and gnashing of knuckles, I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation when I finally decided to lay hands on the '89 Mustang with the goal of relieving the car of its stock rear axle. Instead, it took less than a full morning's worth of work to carve the old 7.5-inch solid axle from its moorings and mock up something, well, different.
