1995 Ford E-150 Handicap Waldoch Conversion Van on 2040-cars
Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States
1995 Ford E-150 Waldoch Handicap Conversion Van.
Chassis: E-150 equipped with the "upfitter package" from Ford. This chassis was designed exclusively for the conversion industry; no seating, simply an aluminum pedestal base with a plastic seat for the truck driver to load from the Loraine OH manufacturing plant, onto the truck and unload at the converter destination. Equipped with the 5.4L V8, power windows, door locks, tilt wheel, cruise control and keyless entry. Conversion: The conversion is by Waldoch Crafts of Forest Lake, MN. Waldoch was/is a leader in conversion vans and sport trucks and for several years running was ranked in highest quality by Ford Motor Company. You are viewing The Aspen Edition, a high end package built as a special edition for Waldoch dealers. I actually had input with the research and development department and manufacturing desighn division at Waldoch as I was a Zone Sales Manager for Waldoch at the time the van was built. The exterior features Sherwin Williams paint, with 3mm of cleat coat applied over the custom paint. Many folks think it is vinyl graphics used on lesser quality conversions, but is actually paint! Notice the full length board/flare combination running boards, also painted with clear coat as well. (3) vista bay tinted windows were installed and at the time the cut-outs were made to accommodate the windows, acid etching was performed on the cuts to ensure no rust around the windows. I'm sure you have seen vans with hideous rust around them as a result of cost cutting at time of installation. Not here. The roof rack is from Pro Rack and several accessories were available to fit in the cross bars. A front license plate step is a nice touch to conventianly step up and clean the windshield. The interior features a closed cell foam core floor, conforming to the van chassis ribbed floor. Closed cell and no moisture can get in. Unlike a cheaper plywood floor, the closed cell is waterproof and acts as a nice sound barrier. The carpet is a nylon continuous monofiliment weave, so no fibers can pull out. Very durable. The insulation is 3" Owens Corning pink fiberglass insulation. Remember where this was built...Minnesota! Lesser conversions used a blow in foam insulation containing formadehyde. Not good. The seating s from Flexsteel, the finest in the industry featuring a lifetime warranty on the seatings frames. I was so impressed, my family room has Flesteel furniture. The rear sofa bed is power, allowing it to power fold complete into a sofa bed. Waldoch also installed Pro Aire rear heat and a/C, the best in the business. The vista bay windows are covered with full length shades with durable EZ operation. The wood trim is all black walnut cut to precise measurements with Waldoch's industry known CNC routers, assuring a perfect cut every time. More to show and tell later but I think you understand why we were the best in the industry and the conversions stand the test of time. Handicap Conversion: The power lift is the "Vangater 2" manufactured by Crow River, a member of the Braun family of Companies, a leader in handicap adaptive components. It's full power lifts the occupant safely out of the van and folds back up with power controls operated from the rear of the van and safely retracts back up into the van. Rhe drvers seat pedestal base is manufactured by Rincon, also a leader in innovation in mobility. It features a six way power pedestal with 180 degree turn for easy access/transfer from front seat to chair. There are under dash mounted hand controls as well. Service/owner manuals are included. |

Ford Escort returns... as a concept
Sat, 20 Apr 2013Ford is kickin' it old school at the Shanghai Motor Show for 2013 with a new Escort Concept - "a name that stirs up thoughts of basic, affordable transportation rather than great driving dynamics or bold design" as we said in our initial preview of the small C-segment sedan. Or, as Ford puts it, "Customers in China described seeking a vehicle that is stylish - but not one that is arrogant or pretentious." Potato, potahto...
It's an interesting amalgam of design notes with Ford's recent and stylish hexagonal grille up front, flanked by some pretty busy LED light clusters and chrome-trimmed air intakes at the lower extremities of the fascia, but the Escort Concept is not altogether unattractive. Besides its external appearance, we really don't have much information to report - Ford has not yet hinted at what may be powering this little machine, but we'd expect something with four cylinders and less that 2.0 liters of displacement sending a modest number of horses to the front tires.
It probably goes without saying, but we don't expect to see this Escort make its way to the United States, since we already have the Focus and the Fiesta battling it out in the econobox segment. That said, it's very likely to spawn a production model that will roll out here in China and in other developing market where multiple C-segment entries are becoming increasingly common. Check out our high-res image gallery of live images above, and let us know what you think of the car's styling, then scroll down below for the official press release.
Consumer Reports: Ford Fusion fun but flawed; Mitsubishi i-MiEV slow, chintzy [w/videos]
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Waiting for a Ford compliment from Consumer Reports these days is like waiting for a low-cost new product from Apple. So we weren't really expecting a glowing review of the 2013 Ford Fusion when CR got its hands on the car. The institute's crew bought three different versions of the Fusion (Hybrid, 1.6-liter EcoBoost and a Titanium with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost) to put through its barrage of tests, and while we aren't too surprised by some of the findings, they're still interesting nonetheless.
CR praises the Fusion for its "eye-catching" design and says that the sportier Titanium trim level is the best-handling midsize sedan they've ever tested, but that's about where the good news ends for Ford. The Fusion Hybrid also posted the best-ever fuel economy CR has recorded in a midsize sedan, but the only problem is that their number was 39 miles per gallon combined - far less than Ford's 47 mpg rating for city, highway and combined. As expected, CR also dinged the Fusion for its MyFord Touch, but some of the other gripes about the car include a cramped cabin and poor fit and finish.
Other Ford products tested this time around include the Focus Electric and C-Max Hybrid. Like the Fusion, CR's observed fuel economy of 37 mpg for the C-Max fell well short of Ford's advertised 47-mpg rating, and both cars were criticized for the use of MyFord Touch. CR notes that the Focus Electric's interior is also cramped, with the battery pack taking up a lot of cargo space.
Consumer Reports declares most and least loved cars [w/video]
Wed, Dec 3 2014Consumer Reports is crunching the numbers from its annual owner-satisfaction survey, and part of that process is finding out how attached drivers are to their cars. CR simply asks readers of models up to three years old if they would buy the same vehicle again in light of their entire ownership experience, and tallies the results. After looking at the responses for about 350,000 vehicles, it turns out that people really love a certain California-built, electrically powered luxury sedan. That's right, this year's the overall winner was the Tesla Model S with a whopping 98 percent of owners saying they would purchase another one (the Model S also won this award last year, with 99 percent satisfaction). The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in a close second with 95 percent of drivers hoping to park another one in their garage. A few models weren't quite so favored, though. The Nissan Versa Sedan was the least loved model among its owners; a mere 42 percent said that they would purchase another. The aging Jeep Compass didn't do much better, with just 43 percent of drivers willing to buy the softroader again. On average, about 70 percent of owners say they would buy their car again, and only four cars ranked below 50 percent in CR's findings. Check out the video above to see some of the winners and losers in a few of CR's categories. If you're a subscriber, you can check out the full list on its website.
