I am selling my 1994 E-350 diesel van. The van runs and drives, and the inspection just ran out in February. It started life as an ambulance, and was retired from ambulance service in 2004. I purchased the van from the ambulance company in 2008 and have used it as a work/hauling vehicle (and even a daily driver at some points). This is powered by the 7.3L mechanically injected naturally aspirated diesel engine produced by International Navistar for Ford. It has the E4OD overdrive automatic transmission as well as the famous Dana 60 Trac-Loc rear end (works good). When I purchased it from the ambulance company in '08 I changed all of the fluids and filters and re-painted the whole lower half of the body below the stripe. The vehicle has 279,xxx miles on it, however, the mechanic from the ambulance company estimates that there are only about 60-70,000 on the rebuilt engine and transmission. I will say that I have owned several of these 7.3L IDI N/A engines, and this is by far the smoothest, strongest running I have owned. It really does run good. Also, it appears that at some point the ambulance company had the rear springs beefed up. A trailer hitch can be bolted right on the back - the plug for trailer lights is already there and works, and it is pre-wired for a brake controller. Front tires are 50-75%, rear tires about 25%. Since I have owned it I have:

-Changed fluids and filters on a regular basis
-Replace rear wheel cylinders, checked rear brakes, replaced rear brake line (2009)
-Replaced front brake pads (2009)
-Replaced both starter solenoids
-Alternator rebuilt
-Replaced serpentine belt and idler pulleys
-Bypassed RABS valve
-New windshield
-Several parking brake cables replaced
-Replaced differential pinion bearings and seal and carrier bearings, new gear oil (2012)
-Replaced vacuum pump (2012)
-All new front brakes including new rotors, pads, calipers, and a new master cylinder. Some brake lines replaced. (2012)
-New upper and lower ball joints on the driver's side (2012)

As with most older vehicles, the unit does need some work, and I will try not to leave you with any surprises. Here is what is needs:

-It needs a new torque converter. It still runs and drives ok but it sets a transmission code occasionally and should be replaced soon. I am including a used torque converter and whole other transmission that was sold to me by the ambulance company and is said to be in good working order. The shift points also could use to be adjusted (this is done by adjusting the TPS on the injection pump).
-It needs a new radius arm bushing on the driver's side
-It needs a new pedal unit for the e-brake to work properly
-I believe it needs a new belt tensioner. May need a few other odds and ends like any other old vehicle out there.
-There is some minor rust on the rocker panels, but no rust-through. If you catch it now and sand off the rust, treat it, touch up the paint you should get many more years of service without any major repair. The frame and floors are really clean with almost no rust whatsoever!

As you can tell by reading this, if you are handy with a wrench these are mostly inexpensive repairs and you can have a solid one ton diesel van for not too much cash. Great for hauling tools, materials, towing, and more. Not too bad on fuel, either.

Obviously this vehicle is sold as-is, and you can come inspect it ahead of time if you wish. I will require $250 down payment via PayPal within 24 hours of the end of the auction, and the rest of the payment in cash in person within 10 days. Thanks for looking!

Ford F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang appears at EAA Oshkosh

Sat, 26 Jul 2014

Ford is back at the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, WI, on July 31 auctioning off its seventh Mustang for charity, and this is one seriously mean looking 2015 'Stang. All of the money from the sale goes to give free introductory flights to young people to get them interested in aviation.
We recently saw this latest EAA Mustang as a sketch. However, it looks a whole lot more menacing in person. Dubbed the Ford F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang, it takes liberal inspiration from Lockheed Martin's latest fighter jet, and the customization makes the pony car look ready for a role in Top Gun.
On the outside, the special Mustang wears titanium-color paint that's offset by a black and yellow stripe running from hood to rear. Out back things get really wild with a mix of bright yellow and black that flows diagonally all the way to the rear spoiler. The design is based on the livery of early production F-35s. If the rousing color scheme isn't enough to get you interested, the car also gets a carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser, lowered suspension and a set of custom 21-inch wheels with yellow brake calipers.

Ford F-150 RaptorTrax is Ken Block's ultimate snowmobile

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Even when Ken Block isn't starring in the latest Gymkhana video or tearing up Global RallyCross courses, he's finding new ways to redefine "awesome" as it applies to motorsports. For evidence of this, look no further than Block's latest Monster-badged creation, the Ford F-150 RaptorTrax.
Billed as the "world's fastest snowcat," the RaptorTrax started life as a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, and then a set of Mattracks were put in place where the truck's bead-locked wheels and meaty rubber once resided. The goal was to create a truck that made it easier - and presumably more fun - for Block and his buddies to hit the slopes on their snowboards. Aside from the obvious track upgrades, this truck also received a Whipple supercharger, full roll cage, Recaro seats, an in-bed snowboard rack, a roof basket and a rear-mounted winch - you know, just in case something or someone actually manages to get this truck stuck.
The RaptorTrax will be on display later this week at the Winter X Games in Apsen, CO, but we'll have to wait until next winter for a full Block-worthy video of the truck. A full press release from Hoonigan Racing Division is posted below, and a high-res image can be found by clicking above.

Chip Foose tastefully enhances his personal Ford GT

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

Typically, we'd expect a vehicle from 2006 to fall well short of a more modern vehicle, both in terms of performance and style. Of course, the Ford GT is not your average offering from the Bush era. That's doubly true when the 2006 GT in question belongs to one Chip Foose.
Purchased by his wife as a 50th birthday present, Foose is showing his custom, personalized GT at the 2014 SEMA Show. The 5.4-liter supercharged V8 breathes a bit easier thanks to a full Magnaflow Performance exhaust, but Foose's GT isn't all about the performance.
Instead, the car customizer extraordinaire has focused on tasteful aesthetic enhancement, tweaking the rear end by removing the bumper and trimming the frame extensions. The wheels, meanwhile, are one-off aluminum alloys, designed by Foose himself. Like the stripes, the wheels feature orange accenting.
