1997 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Police Interceptor Low Original Miles 67k - Fast! on 2040-cars
East Northport, New York, United States
Up for auction is my 1997 Ford Crown Victoria. It has the 'P71' Police Package and was never used as a patrol car! It was property of the Federal Prison System and was used by a corrections officer. I bought the vehicle in January 2014, with just under 62,000 miles on it (currently 67K). This was after countless hours of searching for the best Aero-P71 with the lowest mileage I could find. I have had a lot of work put into the car - some mechanical maintenance, and some performance upgrades. The exterior of this vehicle is in very good condition, with barely any rust, no dents or major scratches, and has not been in any accidents. The only couple of things to point out are: A small chip in the windshield on the passenger's side and some bubbling of the paint above the windshield. There are also two antenna holes that have been plugged, and the spotlight was removed and discarded. The interior is in very good condition, showing no rips or stains in the seats and very minimal wear to the carpeting. The dashboard is clean and free of cracks, and the headliner is just slightly separated at the back windshield (does not affect visibility). Missing cup holders. The tires on this car were replaced in March of this year, and remain with at least 80% tread on them. The brakes are extremely solid, as well as the suspension. The car had a tune-up in May, with all new ignition wires, double platinum spark plugs, a new fuel filter, a thorough cleaning of the throttle body, and even a Seafoam treatment. In addition, the oil filter adapter housing and hose lines to the oil cooler were replaced and should never leak again. Regarding performance upgrades, the rear gears were swapped for 3.73's, a BBK underdrive pulley kit was added, and a large K&N cold air intake with 70mm MAF was added. This work was done by a local professional who specializes in Mustangs and other Ford V8's, and he calibrated the computer for these upgrades and also switched the speedometer gear so it would read accurately with the new rear gears. The car was also tuned for 93 octane fuel, and I would guess the car is now pushing over 250 horsepower now (which is what the 2011 P71's put out, and they weigh several hundred pounds more)! The sole reason I am selling this car is because it has a rod knock. However, I have not figured out whether it is due to a spun bearing, or something else. As any Ford enthusiast should know, this problem is almost unheard of for the 4.6 motors, and should have never happened. The car can be driven short distances, but I would not recommend driving it as more than a station car until the problem can be solved. The good news is there are no leaks whatsoever and no signs of smoke. The car is still faster than most Crown Vic's, but should not be driven hard at this point. In tip-top shape, she was able to keep up with a 300-horsepower 2011 Subaru WRX. A couple other things to note: There is an exhaust leak from one of the catalytic converters. Also, the transmission shift points are much more firm after the performance tune, which in my opinion, feels very sporty. I am including the original air intake and MAF sensor, as well as the SCT X4 flash programmer with the sale of the car. Sold AS-IS, where is. Shipping must be arranged by the buyer. |

Ford Mustang GT Bi-Fuel CNG
Tue, 23 Jul 2013Highly intrigued, we recently visited a Southern California Gas Company office to check out several hybrid vehicles promising something new. Unlike more commonplace gasoline-electric hybrids, we were there to evaluate innovative gasoline-compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrids - yes, they run on unleaded gasoline and compressed natural gas. According to the experts on hand, this arrangement delivers extended range and reduced emissions while chipping in with lower operating costs than pure-gasoline vehicles. There are advantages over its gasoline-electric counterparts, as well.
The program is part of a three-way collaboration between The Carlab, a Southern California-based automotive consulting firm, Landi Renzo USA, a company specializing in alternative fuel solutions, and America's Natural Gas Alliance, a group that promotes CNG. Long story short, the team has engineered a way to allow a modified internal combustion vehicle to seamlessly switch between two fuels (gasoline and CNG) with no driver intervention. In theory, and if it works as well as promised, it's a win-win for the vehicle owner and the environment.
Parked at the Gas Company office were six different gasoline-CNG hybrid vehicles. To demonstrate the technology's versatility (just about any gasoline vehicle may be modified) Carlab brought a varied assortment of bodystyles, each from a different automaker. After taking a quick glance at the half-dozen in the parking lot, we made a beeline for the performance-oriented Ford Mustang GT - a 2012 model - with the six-speed manual gearbox.
Ford Recalls '13 Escape For 11th Time
Fri, Aug 15 2014Only in dealer showrooms for two years now, the 2013 Ford Escape has already been recalled for safety hazards 11 times. The most recent recall for the beleaguered vehicle came Friday, when the company announced it was recalling almost 160,000 Escapes and Focus ST hatchbacks from the '13 and '14 model years because of a wiring problem that could cause the engine to stall. Caused by a faulty wiring harness, Ford said the defect could result in reduced power, hesitation or outright stalling. The company said it knew of no crashes or injuries caused by the flaw. Customers affected will be notified by mail. It was the latest problem for a vehicle beset by recalls from the moment it started rolling off the assembly lines. Starting on July 6, 2012, the '13 Escapes have been recalled for an assortment of problems, including multiple hazards with fuel lines that could result in engine fires, fluid leaks in the engine that could also result in fires, problems with engines overheating, delays in airbags deploying and more. Thanks for keeping us on our toes, Detroit Auto Show [w/poll]
Wed, Jan 14 2015Here at Autoblog, we love unexpected debuts at auto shows – and judging by our Detroit Auto Show comments and traffic, you do, too. Surprise reveals have been fewer and farther between in recent years with so many ways for vehicles to be teased or leak out, but this week's show has been a revelation. More to the point, it's been a series of revelations, with automakers from around the globe successfully delivering a brace of concept and production surprises. It's made our jobs a lot more exciting and challenging this week, and even though it's actually more work to react and run-and-gun when the sheet is pulled on a surprise reveal than it is to publish an already-written embargoed story, we've had more fun covering this show for you than any domestic show in memory. We hope you've enjoyed the surprises along with us. To that end, borrowing the words of an unnamed automaker PR flack, we'd like to thank the following automakers for enduring "mountain of antacids" and that "creeping sense of paranoia" necessary to keeping ones' wares totally under wraps until the sheets are pulled off the sheetmetal: Buick Avenir concept Chevrolet Bolt concept Ford GT concept Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Hyundai HCD-15 Santa Cruz concept And while we're at it, we'd like to throw in an shout-out to Detroit's substantially revised and revitalized Cobo Center, and in particular, the redone Michelin media center, which is arguably the single best accommodations for writing show stories that we've encountered on the entire international circuit. Well done, everyone. Thank you, and keep the surprises coming. Auto News Detroit Auto Show Buick Chevrolet Ford Hyundai Volvo 2015 Detroit Auto Show
