AMAZING Original Classic 1969 Ford Bronco, 302 V-8 Showroom Piece

The truck is an unrestored, original paint (*mostly), 1969 with almost 47,000 miles.  She has all the manuals, etc., everything works, no rust, other than what you'd expect with some areas that the paint has worn thin..... nothing that has damaged the surface (*one exception).  The tires are good, the shocks, battery are new.  The A/C was recharged before each summer, but works fine for a 1969 model.  Truly, the truck is designed to have good airflow through vents, so unless it gets over 98 degrees in Charleston, I don't use the A/C.

The engine runs great and has always been tuned by a local classic car guy who owns a shop and knows how to tune properly.  She has the original distributor and runs points.  Never upgraded to electronic ignition as it's easy to care for and really kind of cool being original.  The exhaust is also original and works well.  Both fuel tanks work well and the valve to switch tanks works also.  All instrument panels and lights, gauges work.  The Warn winch on the front is original, but was on a brush guard that I thought was ugly.  I took it off and had a two-inch receiver and winch carrier made for it by a friend who builds t-tops for boats.  It works well and I have used it to pull brushes from the front of our yard.  Because of this, I put a re-manufactured Chrome front bumper on it.  I haven't looked, but original front bumpers are available, even if they have to be re-chromed.

It has some factory options, the 4:10 rear differential and 9" Ford rear axle.  That means with the 302 V-8 (first year of what would become the 5.0 Mustang motor in the early 80's - underrated at 205 bhp and 300 lb/ft of torque) and the three speed manual column shifter (3-on-the-tree) get poor gas mileage (about 10mpg), but will climb the side of a mountain like a billy-goat.  It's purpose built, of course.

The seats, headliner, radio (AM), antenna..... really everything I can think of looks and works well.   I have cleaned everything in the vehicle and had to replace the rubber door seals, because they were worn out.

Let's see.... the asterisks:   *mostly = someone touched up the paint on the tailgate and grill up front.  I retouched the front when I bought it in 2008. Also, I repainted the interior of the floor pans.  *one exception = the floorpans.  They are fine now, but when I bought the truck, it had the original floor mat and water had leaked under it.  I pulled it up and there was a little rust there.  I removed the rust and painted it with Rust Reformer paint/ primer.  No issues since then.  Looks fine and no one knows any difference.

History:  The original owner bought the truck in '69 from Woody Anderson Ford in Huntsville, AL.  He traded it back in 1991 and Mr. Anderson kept it on the showroom floor for about ten years saving it for his grandson.  Apparently, the grandson didn't want it in favor of a new Mustang and he sold it to a friend who kept it at his lake house in a garage in Huntsville until he got bored with it and had his son-in-law sell it to me.

The reason I'm selling it:  I bought it with the intention of having a "beater" 4x4 to tow a boat, run errands, etc. and when I got it I realized it was special.  Everyone told me to keep it like a museum piece.  I have done so for several years, and it's a lot of fun.  I can't get out of a gas station without a conversation explaining Jeep vs Scout vs Bronco to someone or get an offer to purchase.  More recently, I saw a Jay Leno's Garage episode where he was testing an Icon Bronco built by Jonathan Ward in LA, CA.  I have become telephone friends with Jonathan and considered sending the truck to him for a restoration/ mod and he basically told me not to.  He said it would be better to sell it and buy a Bronco in bad shape to create a resto-mod.  I drive a Toyota Land Cruiser on a daily basis and to haul my family, etc. and I thought it would be cool to have an old FJ40 also.  My wife threatened to kill me if I buy another classic 4x4 without selling the Bronco first..... hence..... up for auction she goes.

She was used a few weeks ago by CBS in a pilot filmed in Charleston because the director, Gary Fleder, had them search for an old, classic Bronco.  They found me through a local Bronco club.  I think they want to use it in the series, if picked up for production.... which is kind of cool, then the new owner could work that deal.

The Bronco is located in Charleston, SC if you'd like to come check her out prior to bidding. I can have the car shipped anywhere in the Continental US so please email for a custom shipping quote. Buyer pays any shipping charge. I have her for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early should the right offer come along. This is a no reserve auction, high bidder takes the prize. Please only bid if you are certain you will follow through with the auction (serious bidders only). Please feel free to email with any questions prior to bidding. Good luck winning and have fun!

Weekly Recap: An '80s encore in the auto world

Sat, Jul 11 2015

The '80s returned in a big way this week, as National Lampoon's, Ghostbusters, Miami Vice, and even Tetris were back in the news. While there were far more serious topics (see below), nostalgia mingled with modern marketing to put these Reagan-era favorites back in the spotlight. The '80s were alternately cold and corny at times, but their cultural touchstones can still generate big money. That's why Infiniti recreated an iconic scene from National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) for an advertisement that hawks the QX60 crossover. Actor Ethan Embry, who played Rusty Griswold in a later Lampoon's movie, pilots the Infiniti – which is serving as a modern Family Truckster – for a trip to Walley World. A blonde pulls alongside in a red Lamborghini. They flirt, and she drives on. Christie Brinkley, who played the original girl in the red sports car (she drove a Ferrari in the '83 flick), is riding shotgun and chides Embry with: "A blonde. In a convertible. Seriously?" Okay, it's hardly on the level of "here's looking at you," or even "you can't handle the truth," but it should resonate with '80s babies, many of whom are now having children of their own and moving into three-row SUVs like the QX60. Naturally, Hollywood is going back to the well, too, with a Vacation remake that premiers July 29. Meanwhile, Ghostbusters is returning next year, and director Paul Feig offered a peak at the new Eco-1 in this tweet. In the 1984 classic, the team drove a modified 1959 Cadillac. Now, it will drive a late '80s Cadillac. As expected, the announcement generated support and controversy from movie and car enthusiasts. His tweet had generated several thousand retweets and favorites in the days following the news. Though the '80s Caddy looks, uh, less elegant in comparison to the now-iconic fins and curves of the original Ecto-1, it's about the same time lapse into the past as the '59 Caddy was to viewers in 1984. Speaking of 1984, Miami Vice, which debuted that year on NBC, is seeing one of its hero cars hit the auction block, Mecum Auctions announced this week. The 1986 Ferrari used on the show will be offered for sale Aug. 15 during Monterey classic car week. The white supercar runs a 390-hp flat 12-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission and was in storage after the show ended in 1989 until earlier this year. It has 16,124 miles on the odometer and is authenticated by Ferrari North America and Classiche.

Detroit automakers gain market share simultaneously for first time in 20 years

Wed, 01 May 2013

While monthly sales figures might be an easy way of tracking the progression of the auto industry and individual automakers, looking at market share might be more indicative of how each company is actually standing up against its competitors. For the Detroit Three automakers, they have collectively lost almost 30 percent of the market over the last 20 years, but now, for the first time since 1993, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have each posted market share gains at the same time.
According to Automotive News, Ford's share increased the most by 0.7 percent, GM was up 0.5 percent and Chrysler rose marginally by 0.2 percent, giving the Detroit automakers a total market share of 45.6 percent. As for the Japan's Big Three, the article reports that Toyota is up by 0.7 percent, Nissan is down the same amount and Honda has seen "little change."

2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year entries announced

Wed, Jul 6 2016

Over 40 vehicles will compete for the 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards. If that name looks a little strange, it's because the competition added a third category. In years past, pickup trucks, crossovers, SUVs, commercial vans, and minivans competed for the same award. That's why there were occasionally weird comparisons, like last year's competition between the Volvo XC90 and Nissan Titan XD. The new format separates pickups and commercial vans into the truck contest and CUVs, SUVs, and minivans into the utility competition. A complete list of eligible vehicles is below, but here are a few highlights. For one, the entire list of entries has a luxurious lean. Of the 43 vehicles, nearly half of them are from premium brands. There are two eligible Bentleys – the Bentayga and Mulsanne – the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi Q7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-, E-, and S-Class Maybach. The performance ranks are lofty, too, with the Audi R8, Acura NSX, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mercedes SL- and SLC-Class, Porsche 718, and F-150 Raptor. The mainstream entries are just as comprehensive. From the Chrysler Pacifica to the Chevrolet Cruze to the Fiat 124 Spider to the Mitsubishi Mirage, NACTOY has covered an enormous price range with this year's contestants. Of course, these are only the eligible vehicles. They'll need to run through three rounds of judging, starting in September at NACTOY's traditional Hell, MI, test drive. The Canadian and American journalists involved in the judging will announce this year's nine finalists – three in each category – on December 6.
