A very clean and complete Bronco! It had been stored (inside and dry) from the late 90's until this past July. It is uncut and very well cared for. The Bronco was pulled out of storage in July and I have gone through the cooling system, heater core, fuel system (including new tanks and senders), and brakes (new drums, shoes, cylinders, master cylinder, hoses and lines).
EXTERIOR It has an older repaint with some bubbling on the tailgate and below some of the side trim. It has very little rust-- in spots typical to the older Broncos. The front inner fender wells have rust (pictured) and the passenger rocker panel does as well. Rear wheel wells and the under side of the vehicle is dry and in good shape. Trim is in very good shape and is all there. INTERIOR The interior is also complete. All gauges function correctly, all bezels/knobs/controls are correct and in good shape, and the correct factory radio is installed but not working. The dash pad was replaced with a Tom's Bronco parts pad (complete pad, not just cover). Front seats are from a 67/68 Mustang and were installed in the 90's by previous owner. DRIVETRAIN The drivetrain is an all original 302 with a 3 speed manual, "3 on the tree". It has passed Colorado Emissions and runs and drives well. New Goodyear Wranglers are included. Other than the carburetor, brakes, and shocks, everything was left alone and in good functioning shape. A new timing chain was installed just prior to being stored. Four wheel drive equipment was tested and all operates as intended. The engine does have a small oil leak (rear seal). |

Production Ford Escort heading for Beijing
Wed, 16 Apr 2014Ford's long-dormant Escort nameplate returned affixed to a sedan concept at last year's Shanghai Motor Show. While not exactly a beauty, it showed a clean, straightforward take on Ford's current styling. The Blue Oval said at the time that it wanted to create a model that was stylish "but not one that is arrogant or pretentious." Job done. A year later, it looks like the minimalist vehicle might make its production debut at the Beijing Motor Show.
Autocar claims that the streetgoing version has been confirmed to it for the upcoming show, but so far, Ford isn't saying. If unveiled, the Escort is likely to be produced locally for the Chinese market with a domestic partner. Powertrain details remain a secret, but it seems highly likely that any production model would use a small three- or four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. Sales in other major world markets like ours are unlikely, but a test car was recently spotted in Europe.
Autoblog contacted Ford for confirmation, but the automaker demurred, with a spokesperson saying only, "At the moment, we are not confirming any vehicles planned for the show." It looks like we will have to wait to know for sure.
2014 Ford Fiesta Titanium
Mon, 28 Oct 2013You might not be interested in owning a subcompact (B-segment) hatchback for $20,000. Let's be clear from the get go here: there are any number of reasonable arguments for staying away from the highest-content versions of these small cars. Ford's player in the B-segment arena is the newly updated 2014 Fiesta, and the Titanium trim represents the most luxurious instantiation of the model. We recently were loaned a Fiesta Titanium for a week, whose final sticker price hit $20,390, with navigation being the only standalone option added to the bottom line. By way of comparison, the most basic version of the all new, one-segment-up Mazda3 hatchback costs $19,740 with delivery and destination accounted for, and no options added on.
Hold on to that thought for a moment, we'll get back to it.
These horribly misguided front-drive design studies nearly became the Mustang
Fri, 08 Nov 2013As we eagerly await the unveiling of the all-new sixth-generation Mustang, Ford has been giving us some great information over the past few months showing what has gone into shaping its venerable pony car. As many changes as the Mustang has gone through in its 50 years, though, it appears the fourth-gen model played a decisive and pivotal role in the car's future.
As is part of Mustang lore, the front-wheel drive Ford Probe was originally developed as a next-generation Mustang in the Eighties before cooler heads prevailed. The Blue Oval has just released a handful of images showing how bad things could have been - including a full-scale clay model of a front-wheel-drive Mustang (shown above). Fortunately, the FWD Mustang plan was scrapped and Ford went to work designing a rear-wheel-drive replacement for the Fox Body Mustang, with three design studies making it far enough to become full-scale models. These include the soft "Bruce Jenner" Mustang, the over-the-top "Rambo" Mustang and the middle-ground "Arnold Schwarzenegger" Mustang, which finally became the basis for the 1994 'Stang.
By early 1991, the design language of the fourth-generation Mustang had been worked out, and the rest, they say, is history. Scroll down for the fascinating press release telling the story of the fourth-gen Mustang, and be sure to check out the gallery of horribly misguided sketches and various design studies that were all on the table in the late 1980s.
