Up for auction with no reserve is a very rare 1977 Ford Mustang Cobra II Hatchback. This Cobra was just pulled from her barn in Phoenix where she has been resting safely for some time. Always a treasure since new this particular Mustang had a Phoenix Ordering Distract and was purchased new in Tempe, Arizona. Her body is extremely dry all around and her metal in great shape. This Cobra has some very rare options and came completely loaded form the factory with such items as her Ford 302 V8 Motor, 4 Speed Manual Transmission, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes and so much more. Her instrument cluster is superb with full racing gauges including working factory tachometer plus two additional Sunpro instruments under her dash for temperature and oil pressure even. Throaty dual chrome exhaust out the back gives this Cobra just the right touch. Her exterior paint is orange with black dual stripes on her hood, roof plus front and rear bumpers even. Up front she has her color coded hood scoop that is impressive plus her rear lift back comes with a full set of matching louvers including both side sets that cover her push out side vent windows. Her paint is still holding on well with the usual battle scars and minor flaws throughout. A rear wing molded factory spoiler gives this Mustang Cobra II that unique race look that everyone is after. All her glass is in excellent condition all around with working window regulators plus her stainless bright trim is very nice throughout. Her interior upholstery consists of racing bucket seats plus a fold down 2+2 rear sport bench that makes this small sports car very versatile. She is rolling on a set of matching Ford rims that come complete with chrome beauty rings plus center caps and a Ford spare tire for her ultra dry wheel well in the back. New gas struts hold her rear lift up without any issues and her rear plastic sail panels and molded interior trim look great. Her racing three hole leather wrapped steering wheels is in excellent condition and she even comes with her factory Ford pushbutton Aeronutronic radio that still works and looks great with good speakers all around. Her in dash digital clock plus simulated wood trim appoint the interior nicely and she comes with dual side remote color coded mirrors even. Under her hood things look very stock including what probably is her factory valve covers with Ford stamp marks all around. Mechanically this Cobra seems very sound and she fires right up and she drives out nice. Her motor is strong but clutch is getting weak. Reverse is crunchy but all her forward gears fine. Brakes are good, rear end does not howl and her exhaust is nice. Flaws worth noting are her passenger front fender has a dimple on top that has already been touched up a little and dash comes with the usual Arizona sun cracks plus the driver's side seat has more wear than the rest. She is a factory A/C Mustang but is lacking her compressor. This Cobra is no headache for the right new owner and has a tremendous amount of potential but even as she sits things are way better than just good. A true classic and rare barn find from the driest state in the nation should please the next collector easily. Not too many of these become available especially with a four speed on the floor and Phoenix ordering district as well. She is not perfect but perfectly ready to be shipped immediately upon final sale so please bid with complete confidence and simply call, text or write with any questions you may have about anything whatsoever.

How the Ram Multifunction Tailgate compares to Ford, GMC, Honda

Wed, Feb 6 2019

Ram just announced its Multifunction Tailgate — a descriptive if not very creative name. It's an asymmetrical barn-door arrangement, which can both fold down like a conventional tailgate or swing open like a gate. There's a new bed step, but unlike Ford or GM, the step isn't part of the tailgate itself. Rather, it kicks out from under the bumper (as opposed to out from under the driver's side of the rear bumper in its previous incarnation). So let's just focus on the tailgate functionality. A video of the Ram Multifunction Tailgate in action is above. For one, either of the swinging tailgate sections can be opened independently. They open to a full 88 degrees. In conventional flip-down mode, the tailgate works just like a normal one, too, with a 2,000-pound rating. The bottom line is that while it gives a variety of types of access to the load area, it doesn't "do" anything else. It's a $995 option on any Ram 1500. Its closest analogue is the Honda Ridgeline, which works basically the same way, but on that truck the tailgate swings as one piece. And the Honda's load rating isn't as hefty as the Ram's tailgate: 300 pounds. As Honda says, that's sufficient to hold the weight of the part of an ATV hanging out of the bed, or something similar, but it's a lighter-duty unit (and a lighter-duty truck) than the Ram's overall. Let's also get Ford's one-trick tailgate out of the way before comparing to the more analogous, and complicated, GM MultiPro. A bit of trivia: Ford's optional Tailgate Step is actually designed and supplied by Multimatic, better known as the outfit that builds the Ford GT and produces the DSSV spool-valve shocks. This step has been available for years. It pulls out of the top edge of the tailgate when the tailgate is lowered, deploying a single step. A separate handle pulls out from beside the step and flips up, giving a handhold. While it was initially (and infamously) mocked by competitors, with load floor heights as high as they are it's better than toting around a stepstool. It's currently a $375 standalone option. Now we get to the GMC MultiPro tailgate, the most complicated and multi-functioned around. It's essentially a tailgate within a tailgate, with a fold-out stopper that deploys from the inner tailgate. This gives it several functions depending on the position of all the parts. It can still be used like a normal tailgate, dropping down at the push of a button or using the key fob.

Ford recalling nearly 700k Escape CUVs, C-Max hybrids over two separate safety issues

Fri, 09 May 2014

Poor Escape. Ever since its launch in 2012, Ford's small CUV has been the subject of many, many, many recalls. And today, The Detroit News is reporting that Ford is adding two more recalls to the 2013-14 model year Escape's permanent record, one of them also involves the C-Max hybrid hatchback.
The first recall, covering 692,500 Escape and C-Max vehicles, is due to a software glitch that could cause the airbags - specifically, the safety canopy - to not deploy in a timely fashion during rollover crashes. According to the News, Ford says no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to this problem.
The second recall, covering 692,700 Escapes, is related to the door handles. The News reports that the exterior door handles could open while the vehicle is in motion, and could also fail to latch properly. Once again, no crashes or injuries have occurred because of this. The National Highway Safety Traffic Administration has not issued an official notice on either recall as of this writing.

2015 Ford Mustang leaked in Autoweek

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

We would have to imagine that Ford knew it couldn't keep its 2015 Mustang under wraps for too long, and with only days to go before the pony car's official unveiling, the dam seems to be cracking. SVTPerformance.com member Screamin 40th just posted some images taken of the sixth-gen Mustang prominently featured in and on the cover of the December 9 issue of Autoweek magazine.
These images show that recent renderings we saw weren't too far off. The face is just like what we saw in spy shots a few months back, but the rear of the car features some of its more striking cues. Starting with the pronounced haunches and hidden B-pillars, the rear view of the new Mustang might be its best with the ridged, three-bar taillights, a rear diffuser and the lack of a faux gas cap, which allows the galloping pony to be an even more prominent element against the black trim.
The images also reveal a small portion of the updated interior carrying over retro themes like the deep-dish steering wheel and dual-gauge instrument cluster, but it also adds some modern tech with a big infotainment displays and a clean center stack layout. No official word on powertrain or other specs, but while we can't make out most of the magazine's text, our eyes did catch mentions of an independent rear suspension and a 200-pound weight reduction.
