Here's a 1976 Ford Torino Starsky & Hutch tribute car. She's a great car and stunning to look at, too. She gets lots of looks, thumbs-ups and attention on the road -- if you aren't interested in attention, this car isn't for you.
The Torino is a rust-free car that is in great shape. Unlike most of the Torinos, this one is not a little 302 or 351 -- rather this one is a 460 big-block. The car was originally an S-code (for 1976 that meant 400), but 12 years ago the previous owner had a 460 built and installed in place of the 400 (good move!) I have a few pictures of the 460 build process, some receipts and manuals and the cam card from the installation as well. The 460 received .040 bore, new KB pistons, an Edelbrock Accu-Drive gear drive (sounds awesome) as well as an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum performance intake and cam package, all topped by a 770cfm Holley Street Avenger 4-barrell. This is a modest output setup for a 460 since we all know they can be much more powerful, but it has a very respectable 450hp and 520ft/lbs of torque -- dyno chart included. And 450hp is with D3VE heads! Simply swapping on a set of D0VE heads could really wake up a significant amount of horsepower. The 460 is connected to a C6 automatic transmission (rebuilt at time of installation) and a big FORD 9-inch rear with a rear sway bar. It's a very street-able and pleasant-driving experience. The sound of the car gets me compliments regularly, too.
The paint on the car is awesome; you will be hard-pressed to find any flaws in it. The Starsky & Hutch 'Red Tomato' paint scheme is not perfect, but it's so close that you won't know unless you spend some time looking for any issue. The wheels are ET aluminum slots with matching caps and the tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A's that are practically new. Chrome and trim are in great shape as can be seen in the pictures. I would rate the car of an 'upper driver' category - probably capable of getting a trophy at a local car show, but not specifically a show car.
The interior is in wonderful shape, too. The door panels are cut-free; no speaker holes added, etc. The headliner has no rips, the seats have no tears and the dash has no cracks. As rare as these cars are, it's even more rare to find one without these issues. It has an AM/FM cassette radio -- not sure if it's the original or not, but could be. I can see that the previous owner had a hidden CD changer in the glove box, but that was all removed. It has remote mirrors -- both left and right have internal controls, and added DC ammeter gauge and coolant temp gauge. Awesome 70's power steering (you can steer with your pinky -- remember those days?) and power brakes. An air horn is attached in place of the stock horn, so it's a little louder. I also added a Motorola police radio under the dash (not active) and a working magnetic teardrop emergency light for the roof to add to the authenticity of the car. There are a set of "Gran Torino" fender emblems with inserts/clips included as well. Some of the TV and movie cars had them, but I prefer the cleaner look, so I did not install them -- they are included if you would like to install them.
Recent work includes new front brakes, rotors machined, front bearings serviced & repacked, rear brakes adjusted, oil & filter, air shocks replaced, power steering leak repaired (new high pressure hose) and cooling system flush & fill, distributor cap, rotor, plugs and a new windshield. Opportunities on this car -- if you wish, are: replace the glove box liner (about $17 on Dearborn Classics), add two tailpipes (haven't found any that pleased me yet), and I think it would benefit from a performance torque converter. It also is missing one piece of trim in the rear interior of the car -- about 6 inches behind the driver's side rear window. She used to be an opera-window car, metal was welded in place of them.
I know (and you do, too) how rare these cars are -- especially in this condition. I accept cash - with the exception being Paypal for the deposit. Clear GA title. I reserve the right to end the auction if the car sells locally prior to the auction end. If you are in Baltimore, as the weather warms up, you may also see the car at local cruise night spots -- Friday nights at Lowe's in Belair (95 & 24) or Saturday nights at Wal-Mart on Rt 43 in White Marsh or Saturday nights at Marley Station. Might even see me at Cars and Coffee in Hunt Valley on Saturday mornings -- all depending upon the weather and schedule. You are welcome to view the car before the auction ends. Also, please note that I have no way of knowing if the 69xxx miles is original or not - condition suggests that it could be, but I have no way of confirming.
You might be excited to know that the Carlisle All-FORD Nationals this year is having a special celebration of the Starsky & Hutch Torino in June! On top of the S&H Torino section of the show, there will also be an actual TV show car AND a movie car appearing together in building T. I have added a screen-shot of the ad from their website in the pictures (photobucket link below). Take this Torino with you and join in the action!
Check out a bunch of detailed pictures at the Photobucket link below. Videos of the car running and emergency light working are at the YouTube links below.

Watch NASCAR racer Brad Keselowski do a burnout... in a hotel conference room
Fri, 08 Mar 2013A vast majority of hotels frown upon smoking inside the building these days, but Brad Keselowski doesn't follow the rules. During his introduction at the 2013 MiilerCoors Distribution Convention, the reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup champion smoked the tires of his Miller-sponsored Ford Fusion stock car, adding a pair of thick, black stripes to the carpeting of the Marriott World Center's conference room.
This definitely isn't a high-quality video, but it's the perfect vantage point to watch Keselowski lay down some rubber and receive a well-deserved standing ovation after pulling up in front of the crowd. Check out the short-but-sweet video posted below.
10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags
Sun, Dec 14 2014Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.
Are you Ford's next Bullitt Mustang? [w/poll]
Thu, 27 Mar 2014Ford has a long history of offering special editions of its legendary Mustang. One of the most vaunted of those trim packages, though, has only been offered twice. The first time was in 2001, and then again in 2008. Yes, we're talking about the Bullitt.
Named for the infamous Dark Highland Green Mustang Fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 cop melodrama Bullitt, the car was famous for not just its pilot, but the high-speed chase it took part in during the movie. Now, we think we have images of the next Bullitt.
According to our spy photographers, the paint is a "dead-ringer" for the Dark Highland Green that has signified these special edition Mustangs. While we're inclined to agree, it's also worth pointing out that this shade looks very similar to one of the 2015's other new colors, Guard. We've yet to see one on the road (let alone in such dreary conditions), so it's tough to say for certain.
