1971 Ford Torino GT, True Barn Find. At times most barn finds are not good ones but for a Ford guy this is one. As the story goes, guy knocks on my door and says, I see that you work on Torinos, I said yes 68/69's. He says I have one in my dad's barn since 1991 and is a Ram Air car but a 71. Well not to pass up a barn car, I went and looked, yep she's wedged in the back of the barn. He claims he started it from time to time and I think he's telling the truth as she fired up in about a minute of priming the carb. So she was winched from her soon to be grave, brought home, bathed, photographed and then went over to see what was what.
As confirmed from Kevin Marti, this is a Special Order car with an unknown paint. One of 247 with this paint code and 1 of 27 with this paint/trim. The paint is black which was not an option on the 71 Torinos. Though the body is currently white, the oginal hood was not painted and retains the correct black paint. Also all over the body, where the white paint has chipped or peeled, the orginal black can be seen as when they painted over the black, they saved money by not sanding it but it lacksan bonding.
The car is complete with the follwong exceptions: AM radio is missing, mirrors have been changed, intake is aftermarket as well as the carb. Suppose to be a motorcarft but now a Holley. Snorkel is missing from the air cleaner. Magnum 500's are long gone, now has Keystone wheels.
Here are the options per the Marti report: C-6 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic, Hidden Headlamps (working), F60x15 Wide Ovals, Power Steering, Rim Blow-Deluxe Steering Wheel, Power Front Discs Brakes, Ram Air Option, A/C, Rear Window Defroster, AM Radio, Console, Dual Rear Speakers, Tinted Glass, Magnum 500 Chrome Wheels, Heavy Duty Supsension, Tachometer (working).
The 351 Cleveland engine does run and sounds OK, no knocks, pings or smoke. Previous owner stated the engine was rebuilt around 2000 miles ago but that doesn't much when you sit for the 20 years in the same spot. As far as the transmission is concered, it was 2 quarts low and as of today its 20 degrees outside and I haven't tried to let it run and see if it will move, but if it warms up I will try and see if it will move in the next few days. The rear brakes are bad as they were froze to the drums, the front disc move but the pedal is hard and stays down, no sense to fool with it as the car needs taken apart, not just brakes to sell it. Tires are shot and the exhaust has been removed as it was hanging loose. There was no a/c belt on the car but the pulley does move freely, the a/c system is complete. The electrical has some gremlins, dome works, tach works, brake lights work, marker lights work, dash lights work, Horn is stuck and the headlights have no power but do open and close under vacume.
The interior is complete, back seats are not torn, rear package tray ok, headliner coming apart, visors stained, all door panels are ok, all are are stained, carpet worn, dash pad is straight and free of cracks. Center console is free of cracks. Front buckets are stained in the front and are split on the bottom cushions ate the seams.
All trim is on the car and in need of polishing/re-chroming, the rear bumper is shot. All the glass is still tinted with the correct markings, no deep scrathces and no chips. All the weather stripping is shot.
Body is in need of paint, hood looks rust free, fenders look rust free, outside of the doors appear rust free, why I say appears, you never know what you will find until media blasting, but there are no holes showing on these parts. Front valance is ok but the rear is shot (see ebay pic). the trunk lid has two bad spots, one on the lower right lip (see ebay pic) and on on the under side of the right side, I will say its not repairable to cover myself, maybe it is? The right quarter has some bubbles on the lip and the lower rear section needs repaired, the same goes for the left side quarter. Roof is ok. The tail light panel is the worst part on the car, not usre why so much rot here (see ebay pic).
The underneath, both front torque boxes will need work but being a 71 its hard to tell 100% how much as they both have the skid plate over them that hides the true damage (see ebay pics). The front driver's floor section is so so but the driver's rear section (see ebay pic) is damaged from a jack or something. Passenger side appears usable. There is under coating all over the bottom of the car so its hard to determine what is hidden. The front section of the car around the bumper and so on look solid. The rear of the car again hard to say with all the under coating but no visible rot. Lets say it needs floors and torque boxes. There is a crack on the front metal grill but its definetly repairable.
Spare parts, front bumper with brackets, cone mirror, both front fender end caps, one rear end cap and one non ram air hood.
This is a 42 year old car that spent half its life parked in a barn in NE Ohio, please keep that in mind when bidding. I encourage you to come a see the car and to check all the pics I have at http://www.flickr.com/photos/23336089@N05/
I don't want any trades and no I won't tell you my reserve though its low. This car is worth $ for its rare parts and drivetrain alone but it may worth more to those who see how rare it is even though its not in perfect condion, however in my eyes it can be saved and should be being this rare and highly optioned. If you need any more pics let me know and any questions answered I will do my best. I'm human and do miss things but have done as much as I can to describe what I see. I will provide my telephone number if asked thru ebay ask the seller.
On Feb-17-13 at 18:01:59 PST, seller added the following information:In the description there is a typo, I stated "all door panels are ok, all are are stained", I wanted to say all the door panels are ok but the arm rests are stained, ooops!

Ford predicts it will finish 2013 as top-selling US brand
Mon, 30 Dec 2013Ford is ready to call the ball on its 2013 sales totals, predicting a first-place finish for units sold in the US for a single brand. The company anticipates selling more than 2.4 million vehicles when all vehicle sales over the last 12 months have been tallied, repeating the victory it trumpeted over Toyota last year.
According to Ford's accounting, it sold 329,677 more vehicles than did Toyota in 2012. This year, the Blue Oval expects that margin to grow; through the end of November, Ford says it has outsold Toyota by 396,041 units.
Retail sales of Ford products are projected to exceed 1.7 million units for 2013 (the best retail result in 6 years for the company), with passenger cars accounting for 600k of that total. The redesigned Fusion is expected to crest the 290k mark, and the Fiesta is said to be ready to hit a model-record of 70k-plus. Meanwhile, utility vehicles and trucks are still paying a lot of bills in Dearborn, with the new Escape racking up an expected 300k sales and F-Series trucks chugging along at 688,810 units sold thru November.
Lincoln 'not true luxury' yet, says Ford design chief
Wed, 28 Aug 2013Lincoln is "not true luxury," according to Ford's design boss, J Mays. His statements come from a story in The Detroit News that saw candid language on the issues facing Ford's troubled premium brand. Notably, there's a need for a strong character, with Mays saying, "Every brand needs to have a DNA and a unique selling point and things in the vehicle that make you think, 'That's that particular brand.'"
With a range of rebadged Fords, it's not hard to see why that DNA is missing. Mays hinted that a full recovery for Lincoln will be a ten-year process, that's been kicked off with the MKZ sedan. While that car is still largely a Ford Fusion under its extremely pretty wrapper, it's the first Lincoln in some time to inject its own unique take both through the exterior styling and through interior features, such as the vertical, pushbutton gear selection.
Some analysts weren't so certain about Mays' 10-year estimate. Jim Hall of 2953 Analytics thinks it'll be more like 30 years before Lincoln can show a true return to form. The issue, as Hall explains it, is that, "luxury has a degree of exclusivity," that Lincoln just doesn't have. Michelle Krebs from Edmunds adds, "it's definitely a wanna-be luxury brand," comparing the troubled American brand with Infiniti and Acura, two other brands that have struggled to find their place in the luxury market.
Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
