1971 Ford Torino GT Convertible with Cobra Jet shaker and Laser Striping                  This is a prime opportunity to acquire an extremely rare and highly collectible muscle car convertible. I purchased this car about 7 years ago from a gentleman in Illinois that is known for his knowledge of the Ford Torino. I bought this GT with a 429, and it ran great from Lombard Illinois to Kenosha Wisconsin. That 60-mile trip was the only time I drove this car, but I can say the prior owner had it running like a wristwatch, and that it drove wonderful. The 429 only had a 2-barrel carburetor on it, but the seller included a Holley 600 4-barrel carburetor with what I believe is an aluminum intake manifold. My personal mechanic replaced the valley pan to fit the aluminum intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carburetor about 2 years ago. There was a small part needed to finish the conversion, but I never got around to it. It might be something as simple as the linkage. Anyone who knows these cars should be able to get this droptop back in good running order in under a half an hour if the have the missing part. I know just saying the car is running would help bring a lot more money in this auction, but my mechanic from back then has gotten a real job. I couldn't get a hold of him to find out what part was missing. I do know it was something very minor, and I can say it did run great the day we made the intake manifold and carburetor switch. I believe this Big Block 429 would run great again with little effort. This Torino smoked the tires like mad with a 2-barrel, so it should really light them up with this Holley 600 4-barrel. This model came with the regular Torino GT ram-air hood. I always loved the shaker hood, so I changed to the shaker hood with the cool Cobra Jet shaker. That was the main reason I needed to put the 4-barrel carburetor on the engine. The shaker will not fit on a 2-barrel carburetor. It is very rare to see a Torino GT with a Cobra Jet shaker on the road especially in a convertible. It also came in need of a new convertible top. The canvas is missing, but the frame will go up and down with the control switch on the dash. I purchased the highest quality white canvas top available with the proper rear glass window. The new white convertible top with the glass "not plastic" back window will be included with this sale. There is a pair of matching sport mirrors that are painted to match the body. I believe this car came from the factory with a bench seat. I got it with the awesome high back buckets. I purchased the correct console several years ago, but that will need to be mounted by the new owner. All the correct wiring is in place on the under side of the console, and it is in good condition. They are very expensive and hard to find. I think these consoles are one of the nicest looking consoles of all the 60's and 70's muscle cars. The steering column shifter is currently still hooked up, so this GT can be shifted by the column until the conversion is made. The previous owner placed some extra brackets on the rear floors. I placed new floor mats down, but I would replace the carpet to make the interior better. The entire interior still appears in relatively nice condition. I saw no cracks in the dash pad. All four shocks were changed right before I got the car. This Torino has power front disc brakes and power steering. There is a nice pair of almost new dual exhaust with I'm pretty sure the proper chrome exhaust tips welded on the end of the pipes like the Torino Cobra models have. This Torino GT sits on a nice set of four P235 60R/14 inch Performance Radial GT raised white lettered tires. Those tires are mounted on a set of four Magnum 500 sport wheels with chrome lug nuts, and all four center caps. The trunk is nicely detailed with black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. A new trunk mat sits on top of the trunk floor with an original jack and crow bar. There is a Magnum 500 full size spare. This way in case there is a mishap on the road, you can be back cruising looking complete in minutes. This is an all around very decent car with a pretty nice paint job. With a little elbow grease and knowledge it can be all set for this coming spring. This was a spur of the moment decision to sell this drop top, so I was unable to locate the Deluxe Marti Report that I was given with the car. I will keep looking for it during the auction, and I will post a picture if I find it. I can say that according to Kevin Marti this car was ordered brand new in Honolulu Hawaii. That really stood out to me, so I know that to be factual. The previous owner said this convertible spent most of its life there before it came to the main land. This was not the typical car from the Midwest. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1971 Ford Torino GT Convertible with a 429 engine, ram-air induction, and bucket seats with a console valued at $76,320 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $37,980 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! As shown in the pictures this Torino is in far better condition than what they classify an average condition car. They have the lowest condition value at $15,209 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. I want to share a story of when I attended the Barrett-Jackson auction in West Palm Beach Florida to help a friend sell his 1971 442 4-speed convertible back in January of 2009. There were two Torino GT convertible's for sale. As most everyone knows Barrett-Jackson runs all of its cars at "No Reserve". Anyways, I watched a Grabber Green Torino convertible sell for $23,500. It had door dings all along the sides under the paint job that looked like an Earl Scheib or a Maaco at best. Also sold that day was a Medium Red Torino GT convertible with a worn bench seat that sold for $51,000. Neither car even had laser striping. I just didn't understand those buyers, but I wanted to portray what this car is capable of bringing. This Ford Torino GT convertible with laser striping, and the shaker hood with the Magnum 500's has some serious investment potential! These muscle car convertibles have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. Whether you had one as a youth and would like to recapture that glory or you just want to drive around a bank account, this may be the droptop you've been dreaming of. You may just want to show off at your high school reunion, so people remember how cool you are. I try to list everything as accurately as possible, so everyone can make the most informed decision before placing their bid. What you see is exactly what you get! If you feel there is anything I may not have covered in this description, then please ask. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. I have an open, clean, and clear Illinois title that will go to the winning bidder. I don't think there is a better color combination on a Torino GT convertible than a red body with a white convertible top, especially with the incredible laser striping. I tried to show pictures with different lighting, so anyone who has never seen laser striping would know just how cool the striping looks when the sun goes down. I'm sad to see this one going without having finished what I envisioned. My loss is your gain! This cool classic is being offered at "No Reserve" on a quick 3-day auction ending Monday evening at 8pm Eastern time, 7pm Central time, and 5pm Pacific time. Make sure to get all your bids in before the start of the Monday Night Football game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Saint Louis Rams! It should be a great game, but this way you have something to show your friends at halftime. Thank You for taking the time to view my auction. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!

Feds looking into Ford Explorer exhaust leak complaints

Fri, 20 Jun 2014

There may be a burgeoning problem with exhaust leaks in the 2011-2014 model year Ford Explorer. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is examining multiple complaints of a gasoline smell in the cabin of these SUVs. However, the exact cause of this problem is still unknown.
"The agency is reviewing all available data and will take appropriate action as warranted," said a NHTSA spokesperson in an email to Automotive News. Owners seem to generally complain on the regulator's website of the smell entering the cabin through the air vents. At this time, the government organization has not yet opened an official investigation into the problem, though. When it does begin inspecting vehicles, NHTSA posts a detailed breakdown of its public data online.
Similar problems have been reported about the Explorer in the past, though. In 2013, Ford issued a recall for the 2013 model year of the SUV due to a fuel leak that could cause drivers to smell a gasoline odor and repaired them again later for another possible leak. In response to Autoblog's questions, Ford responded via email: "We are not aware of a NHTSA investigation. We are currently reviewing the case and in the event that any action is required, we will address it promptly."

Ford acquires Livio to bolster connectivity biz

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

Ford Motor Company has announced the acquisition of Livio, a Ferndale, MI-based software development company best known for aftermarket in-car connectivity devices, but also as a supplier of technology for proprietary systems for automakers. Livio, co-founded by Sigal and Massimo Baldini, will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Global Technologies.
"With the additional expertise Livio provides us, Ford intends to continue to lead the next generation of in-car connectivity with technology advancements that give consumers more options to access their devices on the go," said Paul Mascarenas, chief technical officer and vice president, Ford Research and Innovation, in a statement.
Ford is clearly trying to beef up its in-house tech capability around telematics and device connectivity. While the Blue Oval has been a leader in these areas with SYNC and MyFord Touch in terms of getting the systems into as many cars as possible, the execution of the applications have been criticized for glitches.
