Up for sale is this original 1970 Torino 429 Super Cobra Jet with a 4 speed. I have known about this car since 1985 as I tried to buy it back then, but the owner wasn't interested in selling it back then. Finally after 29 years later, I just got it bought. It has been sitting outside for around 35 years. This Torino was sold new in Cedar Rapids Iowa as you can see on the Marti Report that is attached. The 2nd owner, who I just bought from his wife, bought it on August 31, 1973, and it had 17,329 miles on it then. I remember talking to him in 1985 and he said he drove it until 1978 and he was in an accident in Cedar Rapids Iowa, where he was working, so he quit driving it then , with intentions to fix it up someday, but that never happened. The miles are actual and the odometer reads 36,676. It is hit hard in the right front and right rear corners. The body is real real rough. The floor boards are rusted in the front below the cowl area, along with the rear quarters are both rusted through at the bottoms. it is equipped as the Marti report indicates: 1970 year, built in Atlanta, Torino GT, Med Blue, Black Knitted vinyl seats, 429 super cobra jet, c code so its not a shaker car, 4 speed close ratio transmission with hurst shifter, factory drag pack, 4.30 Detroit Locker locking rear axle, clock, light group, rim blow steering wheel, power front disc brakes, power steering, rear defroster, am radio, hideaway headlights, and rear seat speakers. There were 125 of these made. As far as the numbers stamped on engine drivetrain etc: engine blocl DOVE, both heads DOOE R, Intake manifold DOOE 9425 D, carb in not original stamped parts list 3310-1 0-1 93, Radiator C9AE F1, fan blade is not original, Distributor DOOF 12127 AA Autolite, Exhaust maniflods DOOE 9430 A and DOOE 9431 A, Trans C8ar 7006 D, Rear diff date coded 9K23, waterpump DOOE-a, Alternater DOZF 10300 A 55 amp, steering gear SMA-B 9L11B,and ps pully DOOR-A. So it looks like everythnig is original except carb and fan blade. It looks like the starter is original. not sure if the motor is stuck, but i bet it has to be. There arwe no external cracks that are visible in the block, and all the frost plugs are still in the block. There 2 Ford 7 inch wide wheels on the rear. The drag pack brackets abd cooler are still installed, along with the original hoses. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mike on my cell at 319-430-1592. Good Luck |

2015 Ford Mustang specs revealed, GT to pack 435 HP
Thu, 17 Jul 2014The 2015 Ford Mustang sounds great so far - at least on paper. Ford has just announced specs for the latest version of the iconic pony car in Dearborn, telling Autoblog that it will pump out as much as 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque from its 5.0-liter V8.
Those gaudy figures power the naturally aspirated GT model, and they easily eclipse the "more than" 420 hp and 390 lb-ft that Ford originally estimated.
The 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder makes 310 hp and 320 lb-ft, and it's the first turbo Mustang since the 1986 SVO.
The fascinating forgotten civil defense history of Mister Softee trucks
Mon, 26 Aug 2013Hemmings came across an interesting article from the Throwin' Wrenches blog about the intersection of ice cream, cars and civic duty in America's late 1950s. In particular, it focuses on the Mister Softee trucks, which criss-crossed neighborhoods of the eastern US serving ice cream. Looking past the ultra-durable vehicles used - heavy-duty Ford-based chassis, for what it's worth - the article delves into some deeper national-security territory.
See, Mister Softee truck owners were voluntary members of the Civil Defense, thanks to all the useful stuff (potable water, generators, freezers and fridges) that the machines carried with them for serving ice cream. Click over to Throwin' Wrenches for the full run down of how Mister Softee would have stepped in to help fight if the Cold War ever turned a little hotter.
