Incredible find! Super rare, 1969 Ford Torino Talladega barn find! Recently purchased from estate. Dry, indoor storage for 30 years. Last registered in 1983.  Always a Texas car, this Talladega is virtually rust free. The previous owner of this car purchased it in the early 80's as an engine donor for his Cobra Jet Cyclone. After he did some research, he realized the car's rarity and parked it, where it stayed until his passing this fall. The few non-original pieces include the front bucket seats that replace the car's original bench, the air cleaner, the steering wheel, the GT wheel center caps, an accell distributor, and a chrome air cleaner. The car is missing it's original smog system, distributor, air cleaner, one "T" door emblem, and bench seat. A correct set of plain wheel centers are included, as well as an original steering wheel with ring and pad. Most of the car's original paint is there, and with lots of work, could be professionally restored and saved, in my opinion. The only significant body damage is to the car's right quarter. The one-off Talladega front sheet metal, grille, and bumper are near perfect. The Talladegaspoilerregistry.com lists the car as number 397. The original selling dealer was Horn-Williams Motor in Dallas Texas. The car's authenticity has also been confirmed with a Marti report, showing the car's 2/11/69 built date, and confirming its delivery to Horn-Williams Ford in Dallas. This car received the only option available to a Talladega, the am radio, which it still has.

The only spot of rust is along the rear edge of the deck lid, and is easily repairable. I have fully inspected the car and I've found ZERO rust-through anywhere else on the car. Date codes and casting numbers indicate that the 428cj is original to the car. I cannot read the vin on the left rear of the block, but the intake and heads carry the correct casting numbers and similar November 68 dates. The carburetor is a correct, service replacement 428cj Ford carb with a 70 date code. Even the valve covers are date coded to match the heads and intake. I have no reason to believe that the engine is not correct. It still has the 3.25 open 9" rear end with Nodular case. I had the carb rebuilt professionally with plans of making the car drive, but I chose to list the car before taking the next step in making the car road worthy. The engine turns. I have verified that the car WILL RUN with starter fluid, but it won't draw fuel from the tank. It will most certainly need major mechanical service before it can be driven.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to own a truly collectible Ford. This is a very solid example of the coveted Nascar Fords. This car is the real deal, and will make a fine restoration project, or, with a little work, driveable survivor.

Production Ford Escort heading for Beijing

Wed, 16 Apr 2014

Ford's long-dormant Escort nameplate returned affixed to a sedan concept at last year's Shanghai Motor Show. While not exactly a beauty, it showed a clean, straightforward take on Ford's current styling. The Blue Oval said at the time that it wanted to create a model that was stylish "but not one that is arrogant or pretentious." Job done. A year later, it looks like the minimalist vehicle might make its production debut at the Beijing Motor Show.
Autocar claims that the streetgoing version has been confirmed to it for the upcoming show, but so far, Ford isn't saying. If unveiled, the Escort is likely to be produced locally for the Chinese market with a domestic partner. Powertrain details remain a secret, but it seems highly likely that any production model would use a small three- or four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. Sales in other major world markets like ours are unlikely, but a test car was recently spotted in Europe.
Autoblog contacted Ford for confirmation, but the automaker demurred, with a spokesperson saying only, "At the moment, we are not confirming any vehicles planned for the show." It looks like we will have to wait to know for sure.

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"

First 1K next-gen Mustangs to carry 2014 1/2 model year?

Thu, 18 Jul 2013

A new report from Mustangs Daily, citing insider sources at Ford, tells us that the Blue Oval will produce 1,000 next-generation Mustangs with the model year designation of 2014 ½, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the storied marque. The commemorative half-year designation is a rumor that's been swirling in Mustang forums for quite some time now, and seems more plausible than ever with this most recent report. Certainly it's not far-fetched to believe that Ford will want to make a big deal of the golden anniversary for its most-loved model.
The story (compiled by Drew Phillips, who runs the aforementioned Mustang site when he's not directing the photography on these pages) goes on to say that the limited-run cars will be the first built on the new Mustang platform internally known as S550 (and spied testing in the attached gallery). Each car is said to carry a "special" VIN and build number, though no performance upgrades versus the 2015 cars to follow are in the works. A collector's dream then, rather than a weekend racer's.
