1969 Ford Torino Gt 351w Automatic 35xxx Mi 1 Of 80 Color Combo Marti Report on 2040-cars
Ooltewah, Tennessee, United States
Up for sale is my beautiful 1969 Torino GT. There was nothing hotter on the racetrack in 1969 than the Torino. Many people forget that Richard Petty, Parnelli Jones, and A.J. Foyt to mention a few piloted these cars to the victory lane many times during the 69 season. This car in particular has been my baby for the past 7 years. I am the second owner since the original family. Story has it that an older woman purchased the car new at Earnhart Ford in Arizona. ( I have the original bill of sale from dealership with her name on it.) The car would stay in AZ until she passed in the early 90's. The car then became her brothers, who lived outside Kewanee, IL where he owned the ford garage. He would have the car repainted around 92. He would pass in the early 2000's and would sit in garage until another gentleman in the Kewanee area would see it and purchase from his wife in 06. He had the car for a year only putting 100 or so miles on the car. I purchased from him in 07 and have had it ever since. The car has not been restored or drivetrain rebuilt, that is why I still add lead substitute to the fuel. This car has been maintained and well cared for over its life. The bumpers and trim have never been redone. The hood trim has been replaced other than that it is just as it came off the line in 69. It has been repainted once and they did an amazing job. Actually had the gentleman who painted the car come up to me at a car show and introduce himself. He remembered that paint job after 20+ years. I asked him if they disassembled the car and painted it and to my surprise he said "no", they just shot the exterior. I was amazed, not a single sign of overspray or tape lines anywhere. Jambs are beautiful, they were actually what sold me on the car when I looked at it. That is usually the dead giveaway for poor bodywork or prior or poor paint and this car looks perfect. The bumpers show some checking but that is to be expected for originals. I replaced marker bezels and GT emblems on car to clean up the look (have originals). The interior, Seats, package tray, dash, instruments, headliner, etc. are all original and in great shape. I replaced the carpet because it was faded. (have original). No cracks on original steering wheel. Under the hood: This car has the original and optional over base 351 Windsor. It was an original 2bbl car, I swapped for an original date coded factory 4bb set up. (have original). I replaced all hoses and clamps with date coded reproductions. I painted the top side of the engine while in car after changing water pump. I replaced fuel pump and starter. Other than that there have been no modifications to the drivetrain what so ever. You can tap the gas to set the choke on this car and it will fire up instantly and purr like a kitten, absolutely flawless. Last fall the A/C compressor finally failed after 40+ years of service. I replaced the compressor with a new York compressor from four seasons, the evaporator drier, expansion valve, compressor fittings with NOS fittings, and Hoses. I had it recharged with the correct and cold blowing R12 refrigerant which cost me a bundle to do but thought the originality of the car deserved it. The heater core has been replaced. Spark plugs are date coded reproductions and distributor still runs great on points. I had dual exhaust custom bent with an H pipe and 50 series delta flow Flowmaster mufflers (sounds great but not so loud that you don't enjoy cruising) I replaced the gas tank with one that has a drain plug incase I decided to store for any period of time. New sending unit at that time as well. I have replaced the rear leaf springs and shackles. I a couple of years ago replaced the entire front suspension system ( upper and lower control arms, ball joints, tie rods, springs, bushings, and shocks, I was afraid that if the originals failed it would be catastrophic to the car) I at that time also replaced the Power steering cylinder underneath with a rebuilt one and all lines. I replaced the battery with a correct reproduction Autolite battery with correct case and script on it. I made this car a very reliable and enjoyable car to drive. I had the transmission serviced last year when having A/C repaired. Tires are a few years old but show minimal wear. I have only put 3000 or 4000 miles on this car in 7 years. I think it had 31000 on it when I got it. No I don't have any documentation but, I have been collecting cars for many years and there is no doubt in my mind that it is correct. If you come to see the car, you will agree. There are some things that can't be faked and original parts is one of them. I really welcome anyone to come look at the car or have a representative look the car over. All questions will be answered. I looked for an original car for a very long time before I found this one and it truly has been a pleasure to own. We moved to TN a little over a year ago and went from a 4 car garage to a 2 car garage and one of my cars has to go. Trying to maneuver cars around is such a hassle that I find myself not driving the car anymore and it deserves better than to sit. Not to mention that it is hard on cars if they aren't regularly put through the paces. Someone who will take this car out and go to car shows and cruise ins needs to have this car. the car has the popular 9 inch open rear end. It has it's original 3.00 gears and FMX automatic trans. The original data plate is still on drivers door along with a reproduction that comes with the elite Marti report that verifies all that I am telling you. This car is a very rare color combo for 1969. 1 of 80 as stated on the report. Lime Gold with White bucket interior and white C stripe. Combo is gorgeous together. It has power steering, manual drum brakes with new parking brake cables within last year. It has no console so, buckets with column shift which is not typical. The car had a small rust spot under the drivers side bucket seat support that was cut out and replaced nicely a few years ago. It has a small half dollar sized spot on drivers side area between the wheel well and the floorboard ( not in floorboard). would be a very easy fix but I have not the time to do it. Other than that there is no rust in the car other than some surface rust on some of the underside of the car. Again, this is not a restored car but a maintained car. I welcome any inspection that proves anything other than what I have stated. I am being as honest as I can be with you. I have sold a few classics sight unseen to people across the country and all have been amazed at the vehicles upon receiving them and all said that the cars were actually better than I described. I am very picky when it comes to cars and this one is no different. It actually is the best classic I have owned. Please contact me with any questions. I will be happy to help answer or put any fears to rest. I will be very honest because I do not want anyone to be unhappy or feel mislead with anything I sell. However, there is no warranty implied or otherwise with the car. It is 45 years old so anything can happen as all classic car guys know. My pictures have older dates on them but I assure you that they represent the current condition of the car. If you want proof, I will take different pics and send them to you, I have nothing to hide. I have a video that I took to show how well the car runs and point out the small flaws with the paintwork. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAOmlmxHtS0. I am not sure what else I can say about this fine automobile so, I will leave it at that. Again, contact me with any questions. Thank You

F-150 just the start of Ford's aluminum plans
Tue, 14 Jan 2014Not only have we been told that the 2015 Ford F-150 is tougher, more durable and up to 700 pounds lighter than the current truck, Ford COO Mark Fields said it's also "CAFE-positive." That means, for the first time in the history of corporate average fuel economy standards, the F-150 would be a positive contributor on Ford's CAFE balance sheet instead of being a vehicle it needs to counterbalance with frugal offerings.
Fields' comments made at the Detroit Auto Show were among quotes from other Ford execs that confirmed the carmaker will be using aluminum for more of its vehicles. CEO Alan Mulally said it would "proliferate across our lineup," with speculation being that we'll see it applied to crossover and sport utility models first, since they'll benefit the most. Even gaining the massive scale of using aluminum on the world's best selling vehicle for its first effort - on average, the company sells two times as many F-150s in a single day as Land Rover sells of its aluminum Range Rover in a month - Ford will be looking to further spread the cost of its five-year development investment in aluminum technology. And that should mean better handling and fuel economy for those of us who don't need to wear hardhats at the office.
NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
Ford rethinking vehicle launch strategy
Tue, 07 May 2013With a new boss at the helm, Ford is looking at new ways to improve its vehicle launches in North America to prevent recent issues that have popped up with models like the Lincoln MKZ, Ford Escape and Ford Fusion. Speaking with Automotive News, Ford's new president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, revealed a few ways the automaker plans to avoid early build issues such as the engine fires on certain 2013 Escape and Fusion models and months-long delays for customers to receive their MKZs.
It sounds like the root of the problems may have been Ford's relationship with suppliers compounded by the fact that the product surge came on the heels of the recent industry-crippling recession, and in the AN article, Hinrichs says improvements are being made to reduce problems during the launch of new or redesigned models. Three such improvements that were implemented during the first quarter of this year including more rigorous quality comparisons, better use of computer technology to catch major problems sooner and hiring engineers to work closer with suppliers.
