Restored Black Plate P-code Thunderbird With Porthole Hardtop. 312 Cid Motor. on 2040-cars
Emeryville, California, United States
1956 Ford Thunderbird
Intended to compete with Chevrolet’s recently introduced Corvette, the Ford Thunderbird was a two seat convertible with V8 power and quintessentially American 1950s styling. Unlike the Corvette, however, the Thunderbird was billed as a personal luxury car rather than a sports car and this approach ultimately proved much more popular with the American public. While the first Corvette had a 6 cylinder engine, side curtains, and minimal chrome which limited its market appeal a kept sales low in its first two or three production years, the Thunderbird was much more closely aligned with contemporary American tastes and sold very well. The car sold so well in its first production year, 1955, that it received minimal changes for 1956 and fairly light changes for 1957 as well. A longtime California car, this example wears black plates dating from the early 1960s and used to belong to Milo Shepard, the the grand newphew of famed writer Jack London. The car is a P-Code example, indicating that it was fitted new with 312cid engine. Built in Dearborn, Michigan, it was completed on the 29th of February (1956 was a leap year) and supplied new to San Jose, California. It has been restored to its current color scheme of white with two tone red and white interior and is a nice driver example that is attractively presented and structurally sound. Cosmetically, the car presents well, being a nice driver with straight body displaying good gaps. The paintwork was done to very good standards and is generally excellent, with a few small stress cracks and one inverted dimple on the hood, likely from the hood having been closed on a tool that was in the engine compartment. The chrome is generally good, with light pitting and surface scratches in a few places. The glass and lights are generally excellent other than some delamination on the left wind wing. The car is equipped with port hole hard top, which is in excellent condition. The soft top is in good condition with clear rear window. The interior is correctly presented and in very good condition, with nice upholstery, dashboard, and carpets. There upholstery is generally excellent and while it no longer looks brand new, certainly does not need to be redone. The carpets are excellent and the car has correct Thunderbird red rubber over mats. The dashobard is excellent, although a modern radio has been fitted. The chrome and trim are in good shape throughout, as are the instruments. The dashboard pad is in excellent shape. The engine compartment has been thoroughly restored and is very clean. It is generally correct in appearance with red engine block and factory air cleaner. The inner fenders, polished valve covers, and ancillaries are all excellent and the general appearance is of a car that was restored to high standards some years ago and used sparingly since. The trunk was also restored with new paint and the rubber mat is like new. The undercarriage appears unrestored but is structurally sound. This is a great opportunity to acquire a nice restored black plate P-Code Thunderbird with port hole hard top. The car is attractive and presentable, with long term California ownership. The car comes with hard and soft tops, as well as original handbook. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This car is sold AS IS without warranty. A 10% deposit is due upon the successful completion of the auction. Ford recalls 1.48 million F-150s for transmission, plus other models
Wed, Feb 13 2019Weeks after recalling more than 800,000 F-Series pickup trucks for a fire risk, Ford has issued another separate recall for approximately 1.48 million 2011-2013 F-150s for a transmission fault. The six-speed automatics could unexpectedly downshift into first gear without warning. Ford and Lincoln tangentially issued much smaller recalls for the Mustang, Continental, Nautilus, and Navigator. According to Ford, some 2011-2013 model year F-150 pickups with six-speed automatic transmissions could "experience an intermittent loss of the transmission output speed sensor signal to the powertrain control module." This could potentially cause the trucks to temporarily downshift, which could be dangerous if it occurs while driving. Of the 1.48 million affected trucks, 1.26 million are in the U.S. while 221,000 are in Canada. Thus far, Ford knows of five reported accidents involving the issue. To remedy the problem, owners can take their trucks to dealers to update the power control module software. Ford also issued recalls for about 4,350 2019 Mustangs, Lincoln Nautiluses, and Lincoln Navigators in the U.S. and Canada due to a possible fault with the instrument clusters. Although there have been no reports of accidents, Ford says the instrument panel clusters assemblies might be blank or not turn out when the vehicle is started. Additionally, Ford issued a third recall for 28,200 2017-2019 Lincoln Continentals in the U.S. and Canada. Ford says silicon contamination might build up inside the door latch motor, causing it to malfunction. As a result, the door latch might not always fully engage, and the doors could possibly open unexpectedly. Despite no reports of accidents, Ford will remove and replace door latch assemblies on all doors for those affected by the defect. If any of these apply to a vehicle you own, contact Ford to discuss whether it is included in any of these recalls and have the vehicle checked out at a Ford dealership.
Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?
Sun, Jul 9 2023The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric. Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands. If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla. Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor. Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have: Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.
