offering an "absolutely rust free" 75th anniversary , 1978 Ford Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee Edition...

This is an amazing car in every aspect...the car has just under 26,000 actual miles, is all original, and it rides and drives like new..the free and clear Indiana Title is also marked 25,884/actual..

the 78 diamond jubilee edition was one of the most luxurious cars of its time... and today is considered quite collectable. this Thunderbird came from the original owner/family...and was garaged its entire life...the body is rust free, the paint is pristine with NO fading or cracking, and still shines magnificently..

the interior is amazing...no rips, tears or stains...the crushed blue upholstery is rich in color, thick in pyle, and comfortable to sit on and touch...even the carpet is free of wear or fading..just superb...the dash pad, door panels, headliner, back shelf, are all in amazing like new condition...nothing inside car needs addressed at all.....the roof is superb, the double vinyl area of roof is sweet...soft, rich, and free of any defects or blemishes..

the 351 engine runs well, and the AT shifts smooth and properly...mechanically there is only one flaw, that being that the fuel gauge is not working..it stays on "E"... we think the float needs replaced perhaps, or the sending unit may need replaced...all other gauges work, car is equipped with PW, PDL, AC, Power Antenna, AM-FM Cassette, Power Driver Seat and much more, all of which is in good working order... the headlight covers rotate open and closed properly..

the body of this Thunderbird is not perfect, but very close...the chrome trim and bumpers gleam and are free of corrossion. there is nothing to call underbody or wheel well wise.. the only 2 spots on car to note are, a dime size door ding on passenger door (see pic down pass side body) , and on the drivers side front wheel well upper trim (see pic) there was a bump that occured when an object in the garage fell against fender..this is very minor, didnt bend trim piece, but did push in fender very slightly..

the car rides and drives very smooth, brakes and lights all work well...the tires have tread, however they are the original radials that were on car when bought new..there is some dry rotting and winner may want to replace..

This vehicle is not only rare, but literally a diamond in this overall condition..by the way, this vehicle has been life long smoke free...please be sure to ask any questions.

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

Sat, 30 Mar 2013

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.

Ford sells 7-millionth Explorer in America

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Say what you will about the evolution of the Ford Explorer, from roofed Ranger to body-on-frame sport utility vehicle to unibody crossover - the bottom line is that it's been a tremendously successful model for Ford. In fact, the Blue Oval automaker has sold seven million Explorer models in the United States alone.
The milestone, marked nearly a quarter-century after the introduction of the original in 1990, comes on the eve of the introduction of a new Explorer at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. We don't yet know how the new Explorer will shape up, but we're mere days away from finding out.
Now heading into its sixth generation, the Explorer has formed the basis of Ford's utility lineup for over two decades. The Explorer landed on the market right around the time that the Bronco was trailing off, predating the company's expansion into larger SUVs like the Expedition and Excursion and crossovers like the Escape, Edge and Flex.

Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January

Sat, Feb 3 2018

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.
