Grandpa and Grandma bought two brand new cars in 1978...this Thunderbird (the "good" car saved for trips and Sunday driving) and a brand new Fairmont for "everyday" driving!  Nobody knows what became of the Fairmont but, as an Iowa car driven year-round, it's reasonable to assume that it went to it's eternal reward years ago!  The Thunderbird, however, is an entirely different story.  Driven only on seasonable Sundays and on trips, and never taken out of the garage during the winter, this 35 year old T-Bird just might be the nicest unrestored Thunderbird of it's vintage in the country!

Undercoated by the dealer when new, never smoked in, never driven hard, never left outside, never driven in snow, spare tire never removed from the trunk & always dealer-maintained, it's hard to imagine another unmolested "time capsule" like it anywhere!

302 / 2 Barrel Carb / Automatic Transmission / Rear Wheel Drive / Original Owners Manual and Promotional Brochures / Hideaway Headlights / 4 Brand New Good Year Whitewall Tires / No Significant Scratches or Dings and NO RUST!

Starts very easily, idles smoothly, runs powerfully, shifts crisply without slipping or hesitation, drives down the road straight and true with no rattles, no shimmying, no pulling, no nothing!  This car is a testament to good care, proper maintenance, and being used very little!

We want you to be absolutely confident and comfortable when bidding on this car so please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns...Jon at 701 840 8038.  Check my feedback and bid with confidence...NO DISAPPOINTMENTS HERE!

By the way, Minnesota bidders...this car has "permanent"  Minnesota  "Collector" plates...if they're transferable, you may have them with the car.

If you want to fly in and drive the car home, we will pick you up at the Fargo, ND airport (FAR) or the Minneapolis/St. Paul Intl Airport (MSP) at no add'l  charge.  If you wish to have the car shipped, we will do our very best to accommodate your shipper!  Thanks for your interest!

Last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible nets $500k for charity at Barrett-Jackson [w/video]

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

The last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible was sold on Saturday at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Reno, Nevada, for $500,000. Ford donated the Mustang to be auctioned for charity, and all of the money is going to the Brain Injury Association of America.
Parnelli Jones, winner of the 1963 Indianapolis 500, was there on behalf of the BIAA with his son Page, who suffered a brain injury in a sprint car crash in 1994. The bidding increased quickly, reaching $500k in no time, spreading a bit more hope to people who live with brain injuries.
The winning bidder will be able to choose the GT500's exterior, interior and stripe colors, and is scheduled to receive the car, signed by Parnelli Jones in appreciation for the donation, by the end of 2013. Watch the video below to see the auction-block action.

Ford EcoBoost V6 hits the dyno before hitting the track

Wed, 02 Oct 2013

Ford Racing just unveiled the Riley Daytona Prototype that will make its racing in the United SportsCar Racing Championship Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, and now it has released a video showing development of twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that powers the car. Using the same block and heads that can be found on a production Ford Taurus SHO, this new racecar benefits from the collaboration between Ford Racing and Ford powertrain engineers.
While we still don't know what kind of power this engine is putting out, it has definitely gotten a workout at Ford's 17G dyno. This area deep within Ford allows the automaker's racing program to work hand-in-hand with production engine programs, which can be a benefit to racing operations and production cars alike. Scroll down to hear a few people from Ford talk about the crosspollination between its racing and engine teams and watch the EcoBoost get red hot on the dyno.

Ford Green Zone works magic with GPS to make your drive smarter, cleaner

Fri, Aug 29 2014

For the most part, plug-in hybrids rely on the power stored in the battery until that charge is depleted. Unless the switch can be changed manually, it's only then that the cars fire up the internal combustion engine and begin using the fossil fuels on board. This is ideal, of course, when one's drive isn't long enough that the car needs to start sipping gasoline at all. On longer commutes, when it's certain that the route is longer than the car's all-electric range, this isn't necessarily the most efficient use of energy. Ford's Green Zone system is designed to save some of that juice for the parts of the drive that require slower speeds. Ford is working on a smart system, based on Nokia mapping technology, that uses GPS data to use both the electricity and conventional fuel more efficiently. Since battery power is less efficient at highway speeds, Ford's Green Zone system is designed to save some of that juice for the parts of the drive that require slower speeds, rather than just using up all the electrons right at the beginning of the drive. Using a website or the in-car navigation system, the driver can pinpoint the parts of the route, highlighted in green, where using battery power would be more effective, and set the car to automatically switch to electricity for those sections. Depending on the route, the car could automatically switch back and forth between the two power sources multiple times, particularly if the drive is a mix between city and highway driving. Of course, Green Zone will be go beyond that. The program is being developed to take traffic and road grade into account, details that allow the car to be make even smarter choices to improve efficiency. Ford even hopes to have Green Zone learn driver habits, and respond accordingly depending on who is driving the car. The system could control other features as well, such as anticipating corners and shifting the headlights to better illuminate the road ahead. Green Zone could also potentially use information from vehicle-to-vehicle networking to control functions in the car. The Green Zone system still has a few years before it will be ready to be put into production vehicles, but Ford is confident it will make its way onto the road eventually. As with other innovations that improve efficiency and make our vehicles smarter, we can expect to see similar technology from other manufacturers, until it becomes a regular part of driving in the future.
