1973 Ford Thunderbird

I have enjoyed this car for the last 3 years but I've lost my storage space. I have way to many projects and not enough time to do right by this car anytime in the foreseeable future. The story I was told when I bought this car was it was originally purchased by an older couple in Portland, OR. It was the wifes car, sometime later the husband died and the lady started driving his car which was smaller and the thunderbird sat in the garage. When the lady died, the car passed to either to the guy I bought it from or he purchased it from the family. I don't remember how that worked.  Anyway, his kid was driving the car to school but wanted something different at which time it was sold to me.

Driving this car, it is everything you would expect from a luxury car of this era, smooth, quiet, powerful, with the floating on a cloud ride. This car has all the power accessories, power steering, power front disc/rear drum brakes, power windows, power seats, power door locks, factory AM/FM stereo radio, electric trunk release, and electric rear window defroster. The right rear window operates slow, and the radio has very poor reception on FM it may need a new antenna. The leather seats and the carpet are in clean and in excellent condition. In the trunk, the spare tire, tire cover, jack, and all liner panels and carpet are clean, present and in good condition. The body is in very good condition with no dents, the paint is lightly oxidized but will shine with minimal effort. The factory pinstripes are getting thin in spots. All the chrome and trim pieces are present and in good condition. The vinyl top should be replaced, it is dried out and starting to crack in the bottom of the "leather" grain. The 460 engine runs like a top, and automatic transmission shifts as it should. I replaced the carburetor with a new Holley carb, the original ford carb will be included in the sale if you want it. I also have a reprinted set of factory shop manuals that will be included.

I have tried to list all the thunderbirds good and bad points as honestly as I could. That being said, this is a 40 year old car and it is sold in as is condition with no warrantee of any kind. I have clear Washington title in my name in hand, The car has WA "collector car" license plates which are transferable to WA residents and never expire.

At the close of this auction, I require a $250.00 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours, with the balance due within 10 days of the end of the auction. Final payment to be in cash or certified funds. The car will not be released until any checks clear the bank. I will work with you, or your shipper if you can't pickup the car in person, but any and all shipping charges are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Next Ford Mustang to drop 400 pounds

Thu, 15 Aug 2013

The Ford Mustang is already the lightest of the current crop of muscle cars, at around 3,600 pounds for a GT coupe with the six-speed manual transmission. That's almost 260 pounds less than a Chevrolet Camaro SS and about 450 pounds less than a Dodge Challenger R/T, which means the Mustang has a pretty big advantage when it comes to handling, braking, accelerating and economy. More good news: The next Mustang will be even lighter.
According to a report from Edmunds, the sixth-generation Mustang, which is set to debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, will shed an additional 400 pounds of body fat. That 11-percent weight reduction will be thanks to lightweight materials, with a particular focus on using stronger, but less material in construction. Aluminum will feature heavily, but Edmunds' inside source warns that there is "nothing terribly exotic" coming to the original pony car.
The other big news is that the new Mustang will be smaller overall. It's going to be 15-inches shorter than the 188.5-inch Mustang on sale today, while it'll also be 6.5 inches narrower. Shorter overhangs, both in the front and rear, are also good signs for those that want an agile Mustang.

Ford reports 58% drop in Q2 profits on European losses

Wed, 25 Jul 2012

Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday that it has posted a $1 billion profit for the second quarter of 2012. That sounds like good news for the Blue Oval, until you take into account that Ford posted a $2.4 billion profit for Q2 a year ago. That is a substantial 58 percent loss.
Ford also posted $465 million in international losses, with $404 million of those losses coming directly from Europe. The automaker also increased its European loss projections to $1 billion for 2012, due in large part to the economic crisis overseas, which has resulted in increased unemployment and decreased consumer confidence.

After Years Of Delays, Rear Visibility Requirements Move Closer To Reality

Fri, Jan 3 2014

Regulations that would require automakers to improve rear-view visibility on all new cars and light trucks are nearing completion after six years of delays. The U.S. Department of Transportation sent its proposed rear-visibility rules to the Obama administration for review on Christmas Day. The White House Office of Management and Budget now must finalize the regulations. The rule are intended to minimize the risk of pedestrian deaths from vehicles in reverse, a type of accident that disproportionately affects children. Already in 2014, two children have died from cars backing over them, driven in each case by the children's father. Specifics of the Transportation Department's proposal are not available during the review, but the rules are expected to compel automakers to install rear-view cameras as mandatory equipment on all new vehicles. That's what safety advocates have wanted all along. Thought they were pleased the proposed ruling had finally been issued, there was some worry Friday the final rules would omit the rear-view camera mandate. "We're encouraged, but we're also a little concerned about speculation the rear-view camera may not be in there," said Janette Fennell, the president and founder of Kids and Cars, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children in and around vehicles. "I'm wondering where that might be coming from." On Thursday, The Automotive News had reported the possibility the new standards could offer an alternative to rear-view cameras, such as redesigned mirrors, that improved visibility. The Office of Management and Budget typically completes its reviews of new rules in 90 days, although that can be extended. OMB officials said Friday they do not comment on pending rules. The intent of the rules is to enhance rear visibility for drivers and prevent pedestrian deaths. Approximately 200 pedestrians are backed over in the United States each year, according to estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Accidents Mostly Affect Children Roughly half the victims are children younger than age five. A government analysis concluded approximately half the victims -– 95 to 112 -– could be saved with new regulations. Yet the rules have arrived at a glacial pace. President George W. Bush signed legislation that had been passed with bipartisan Congressional support in 2008. But automakers have fought the idea of adding rear-view cameras, saying it is too expensive.
