1966 Ford Thunderbird Base Hardtop 2-door 6.4l on 2040-cars

Year:1966 Mileage:81400

Up for auction is a very solid and unmolested 1966 Ford Thunderbird.  The car has the original 390 4bbl with air conditioning, power steering, disc brakes, power windows and locks.  It is in good unrestored condition.  The white vinyl top is in excellent shape with no tears or discoloration.  The body is very solid with a few rust bubbles showing at the bottom edge of quarter panels near the fender skirts.  It has been repainted once, original color, I would say 15 years ago or so.  The paint shows well but does have some minor chips and previously mentioned spots at fender skirts.  I can't find any evidence of any accidents or panel replacements.

The interior is good with the following exceptions.  There was a spare tire sitting in the back seat for a lengthy period of time and it left markings on the rear seat.  The driver's armrest/door pull is worn and damaged and there is a tear in the seam in the driver's seat.  The headliner was damaged and has been removed.  The carpet has some holes from mouse intrusion.  I looked over everything and the only damage from mice I could find are the carpet and the headliner.  No wiring chewed or seat foam chewed up.  It does not have mouse urine smell either.  The car was stored in a garage for 20+ years undriven. It was last registered in 1985.

The undercarriage is solid, no rust through anywhere.  It does have a fair amount of surface rust which is typical of a car stored over a concrete floor for this many years.

The car is 100% complete..nothing missing except the headliner which I removed.  It starts, runs, and drives well.  I put a new alternator, new fuel pump, new starter, replaced brake lines, and rebuilt the original carburetor.  It also has brand new tires on original wheels/hubcaps.  It still needs a new brake caliper on the passenger side which I will replace before it is picked up.  The exhaust is tight and quiet.

Most everything works with the exception of one power window, turn signals, and the air conditioning.  To make a nice driver I would fix seat and door panel, install new headliner and carpet, and spray dye interior white to freshen it up... a dye job would make it look new.  Detail the engine compartment and undercarriage and it would be very nice driver that shows well.

Overall this is a very good original car that with some minor attention will be a great cruiser.  A classic v-8 automatic with power steering and disc brakes... drive it anywhere in comfort and style.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.  This car is priced to sell with a low reserve and if you would like to have the work needed bundled in with the price let me know.

Thanks for looking and good luck!

Company veterans promoted to set a course for the future of Ford

Wed, Apr 10 2019

Ford on Wednesday named two company veterans to lead its auto and mobility businesses as the No. 2 U.S. automaker shifts its focus to autonomous vehicles and realigns its automobile portfolio. Joe Hinrichs was named president of Ford's automotive unit, and Jim Farley will be president, new businesses, technology and strategy, effective May 1. Both will report to Chief Executive Officer Jim Hackett. Hinrichs' goal will be a sustainable EBIT margin (earnings before interest and taxes) of at least 8 percent, Ford said. He'll have responsibility for all of Ford's global business units, and both the Ford and Lincoln brands. And he'll lead all of the automotive skills teams, from product development through customer experience. "Joe Hinrichs possesses the knowledge, experience and leadership to now take our Automotive business to world-class levels of product excellence, customer satisfaction, efficiency and financial performance," Hackett said. "As we enter a busy period for new product launches and further restructuring in underperforming markets, Joe's leadership in transforming businesses through focused execution will be key." Farley is charged with leading Ford's strategic transformation, in which it hopes to gain higher margins through smart/connected vehicles. He'll oversee corporate strategy, global data analytics, global partnerships, research and advanced engineering, including initiatives in smart mobility and autonomous vehicles. "Jim Farley's job is to drive us into the future, both strategically and operationally, from AVs to mobility experiences to leveraging AI and big data. Jim combines an innate feel for what customers want and need in vehicles and the ability to translate this into the vehicles and services of the future," Hackett said. Marcy Klevorn, president of Ford Mobility, plans to retire Oct. 1 after 36 years at Ford. Until then, she will report to Hackett in a strategic role. "I have asked Marcy to work with me and the senior team to accelerate our transformation," Hackett said. "Marcy's decades of experience working with many of the leading companies in the tech space as well as the work she has done with the transformation of Ford IT and the establishment of Ford Mobility gives her unique knowledge to drive these initiatives."

Ram 1500 bests new F-150 in MT pickup shootout

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Ford's 2015 Ford F-150 is a technological tour-de-force, what with its aluminum-intensive construction and its powerful and efficient new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine option. But now that it's hit the market, it's time to get down to brass tacks and find out how just the latest F-150 actually stands up to its rivals in the hyper-competitive fullsize segment. Motor Trend is among the first to round up the Ford (in Lariat 2.7-liter 4X4 guise here) and put it up against the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel 4x4 and 5.3-liter-equipped Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 to find out how Dearborn's new-think truck measures up. The test put the trio through over 1,000 miles of tough driving in California and Arizona in a variety of conditions from just cruising around unladen to hauling a trailer. MT found all three trucks to be competent, but the most praise got heaped on the Ram and the Ford, with the Chevrolet falling a step behind its competitors in many tests. Among the Ford's most-liked features was its 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 that helped make the F-150 easily the quickest of the group, with some editors saying the engine felt about the same whether driving around with cargo in the bed or not. There was some minor turbo lag during acceleration while trailering, but that issue affected the Ram, too. The Ram's powertrain was lauded, as well. The EcoDiesel was torquey around town, and the 1500's combination of an eight-speed automatic and air suspension was judged to be the best of the lot. It was the most difficult to get into the bed, though. The Ram also won the fuel economy award by netting 20-miles-per-gallon city and 28-mpg highway in the test to beat its Environmental Protection Agency ratings of 19/27. The Ford's EcoBoost managed 17/22, one mpg off each from the EPA numbers, and using a lot of throttle really depleted its efficiency. As MT notes, however, it would take time for the diesel's mileage savings to pay off at the pump for these two trucks. In the end, the Ram just barely eked out the win, with the title partially earned because of "the Ford's unknown maintenance and aluminum repair costs," according to MT. NHTSA investigating Ford Fiesta for faulty door latches

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation on the 2011-2013 Ford Fiesta because the regulator has received 61 complaints from drivers, including one claim of an injury, about the doors on the subcompacts failing to latch and sometimes even flying open while driving. NHTSA has estimated that the problem could affect as many as 205,000 vehicles.
NHTSA is still gathering further data about the problem, but looking at the complaints so far, both front and rear doors appear to be potentially involved with the alleged failures. Among the reports, there are 12 claiming that the door opened while driving. Several also indicate the "Door Ajar" warning illuminating during this problem. The one purported injury happened when someone attempted to shut the door, and it bounced back.
Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker told Autoblog via email, "We are cooperating with NHTSA on this investigation, as we always do." Scroll down to read the report from NHTSA.
