1941 Cadillac Series 62 Auction

Thank you for checking out my auction on this beautiful 1964 Ford  Thunderbird.

This fourth generation T-Bird has been an absolutely wonderful car to own but I’ve lost the garage I was renting space in and don’t have enough room in the new place so it’s time to let her go.

This originally West Coast Ford Thunderbird Landau was purchased from  a long term owner in Phoenix for use as a show car and weekend tour.  The low miles note that the car is very well cared for from day one.  Upon purchase in 2010, I drove the car for over a year without any major work other than simple adjustments.

The Great Race 2013

After making the decision that I wanted to use the car for "The Great Race 2013," an upcoming road rally from Minnesota to Alabama, the Thunderbird went in for full check up and restoration where needed.  From the voluminous file I have kept on the car, the following work was performed:

  • New headlights installed
  • New dimmer switch for floor
  • Seals repaired or replaced where needed
  • New heater core
  • Five new Coker radials
  • Full brake work
  • Suspension shocks repaired or replaced
  • Air conditioner
  • Heater regulator (in center console)
  • Vacuum accumulator for windshield wiper repaired
  • Window switches repaired or replaced
  • Installation of a fifth matching Kelsey Hayes wire wheel in trunk and two spare radials
  • Complete tour kit for long distance travel included with all essential spare parts, belts, hoses fluids etc.
  • Cosmetically, the original top had separated in the seams, so new factory material was installed on top of mint condition factory padding.
  • All interior chrome/stainless work was properly removed and reinstalled including the multiple, mint condition exterior chrome trim.
  • The paint work rivals the quality and finish of a new Bentley Continental in the garage.  The restoration work performed was certainly the talent found on the West coast.
  • All chrome was re plated or replaced.
  • A new speedometer head was installed from restoration supplier as it skipped while driving and it’s now corrected.
  • Options  included on the car are all that were available for 1964 except for fm radio and power vents (I think!).  I’m not sure but it does not have an power antenna and do not believe that was an option then.  It has the rear exhaust, as well.  It works and was nice to have with just the vents on and rear air exhaust on for a three week road trip.

After setting up for the Great Race, all functions worked perfectly.  On the 3,000 mile trip, I had just one issue arise which was a shock tower bushing had worn out so it was replaced at a repair shop that my very helpful insurance associates, Hagerty, arranged to open early and replace the part.  The rest of the trip was impeccable, allowing me to make position 68 out of 99 on the Race....obviously I was not in this to win.  After arriving in Mobile, Alabama, my rally associate flew home and I drove home to Charleston, SC via Birmingham, Alabama, Atlanta, Columbia, SC and home to Charleston.  This put an additional 950 miles on the car and it made it with no issues whatsoever.

Upon return, the car was delivered to my mechanic for a full review.  When inspection was completed, there was a slight leak on the power steering hose, which was replaced.  The tires were rotated and balanced, and a slightly defective transmission cooler was replaced. All fluids flushed and replaced per requirement.

Current issues

The interior is all original.  Its great condition with minor exceptions...The center armrest has a slight crack in the center.  A replacement is available from Bird House.  The original carpet on the driver’s side is discolored from a leaking ice bag while on the Great Race. I have not had the time to steam it out.   The floor mats are scuffed so it could use a fresh new set to make it perfect.

As the car sits at the moment, I would replace the center arm rest, repair a leaking manifold gasket on passenger side, freshen up the original carpets and add a set of new mats.  This will put the car in impeccable condition and ready for show.

Speaking of show, I had 38 Trophies from California and Arizona shows with this car, but my maintenance worker tossed them in error.  I do have photos of them, but not physically.

Why am I selling?

In attempt to ready another vehicle for the Great Race 2014 which requires a smaller car with a manual transmission, I have to sell this car.  Unfortunately I don’t have the space in the new garage to keep the T-Bird so I need it gone!   The fun I had owning this car is worth millions to me but since it has to go quickly I have set the reserve MUCH lower than my monetary investment into the car.

Finding a Thunderbird at such a low price that has had so much high cost work and expensive detail in chrome, engine, grille, and paint is very difficult.  It’s rare that this level of restoration is  seen.  Sure you can find other Thunderbirds out there at a similar price or even a little lower but have they had such extensive restoration work done?  Most likely not!   Why take a chance elsewhere when you can this Thunderbird for such a  great deal!

Inspections are welcome!

Ford Fiesta RS with 250 horsepower mooted

Thu, Jan 29 2015

We know Ford is unveiling a new Focus RS on February 3, and it's heavily rumored to arrive brandishing an all-wheel-drive powertrain and as much as 350 horsepower. The folks at Ford Performance have also promised they are working on at least 12 models through 2020, and that still leaves a lot of time to get additional exciting vehicles out the door. One of those could be an RS version of the Fiesta, according to Evo. An RS take on the latest Fiesta would obviously need substantial boosts in both power and handling ability to warrant the work over the current top Fiesta ST (pictured above), which is already one of our favorite cars. Evo speculates that the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder could be tuned further, possibly up to about 250 horsepower, and the high-performance hatch might even take some inspiration from the Fiesta WRC rally car with an all-wheel drive system. An unnamed Ford spokesperson remained cagey about the chances for the pint-sized hot hatch to Evo, though. "We can't say anything at this moment, but we have promised to produce 12 performance models in the coming years. We'll leave it for you to decide whether that includes a Fiesta at this moment," the source said to the magazine. Evo doesn't expect a launch across the pond until at least 2017, if it actually happens. Of course, there's the lingering question of whether such a niche project would work in the US. In Europe, the Fiesta RS would challenge similarly diminutive speedsters like the Volkswagen Polo R and Audi S1, but true competitors of an equivalent size here would be much more scarce. In fact with 250 hp, the hotter Fiesta could provide unwelcome competition within Blue Oval showrooms for the Focus ST. Compact SUV Comparison: Specs, pics and reviews of every brand's crossover

Wed, Jul 25 2018

Honda CR-V vs Toyota RAV4. Chevy Equinox vs Ford Escape. Mazda CX-5 vs Subaru Forester. Whichever combinations of compact crossover SUV you're considering, there's probably a comparison test or chart out there to read. Heck, you can even create a three-car comparison yourself here at Autoblog. However, if you want a bunch of that information all in one convenient place, well, here it is. Our mega comparison of specs, features and photos of compact SUV entries from every mainstream manufacturer that sells them. That includes the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, 2018 Ford Escape, 2018 GMC Terrain, 2018 Honda CR-V, 2018 Hyundai Tucson, 2019 Jeep Cherokee (it's already on sale with notable changes from 2018), 2018 Jeep Compass, 2018 Kia Sportage, 2018 Mazda CX-5, 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (none of Mitsu's SUVs are perfect fits for this segment, so we deemed the MEC the most competitive fit), 2018 Nissan Rogue, 2018 Subaru Forester, 2018 Toyota RAV4 and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. We can update this comparison as more information about 2019 models is released, most notably the Forester and RAV4. Now, there are certainly some models that are smaller (Nissan Rogue Sport) or larger (Kia Sorento) that could also be considered, but we figured it was wise to stick with those in this sweet spot of comparable size and price. We also included links to Autoblog reviews, buying guides and smaller comparisons. Engines and Transmissions With rare exception, this segment features four-cylinder power. Sometimes it's turbocharged, often its not, but standard engine outputs are generally in the same ballpark. Therefore, we'd recommend focusing on torque output, as it's what will make a difference around town or when passing, and weighing that versus fuel economy (the Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 make particularly strong cases in this regard). Many drivers aren't too fond of continuously variable transmissions (CVT), either, so that's another thing to consider and note during a test drive. As you can see, several models are available with performance upgrades. Besides the Jeep Cherokee's available V6, all are more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The exception to this would be the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape, as their 1.5-liter turbo engines don't prioritize performance. Instead, they serve as overall upgrades to the base naturally aspirated engines standard on only their base trim levels (CR-V LX and Escape S).

Ford talking unibody Ranger replacement

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Now here's some welcome news. Car and Driver reports Ford is seriously mulling a replacement for the recently deceased Ranger, but the successor to the compact pickup's throne may not look anything like what we've seen from the nameplate in the past.
While speaking at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Doug Scott, marketing manager for Ford Trucks, said there's still a market for a smaller pickup, but that buyers expect to see a larger differentiation between the smaller utility vehicles and their full size counterparts in price, capability and fuel economy.
According to Scott, that means a vehicle with a payload capacity of around 1,000 pounds paired with a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds and "a dramatic reduction in fuel consumption." But the biggest piece of that recipe is the price tag, and Scott says to keep the MSRP far enough away from the already cheap F-150, the answer could come in the form of a unibody design. Scott says target customers in this market don't care whether the truck has a traditional frame or not, so long as it's tough enough to do the job and has the capability they need.
