Offered here is a 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible in VG Condition. This was my grandfathers car. He bought it new in 1957. There is a Wilmington newspaper under the mat in the trunk dated Nov. 8, 1957. He probably put that in there the day that he got the car. My mom said that he bought it late in the model year, so the paper date would make sense. She also told me that another person had purchased the car earlier that year, but had returned it after a few weeks because it was too small. That's when my grandfather bought it. I can't confirm this story though. I purchased the car form his estate when he died in 1975. I've had the car 38 years. He told me that it had 250000 miles on it but I really can't confirm this number. It sounds high. I've driven it 24000 miles since I got it. The car has current DE inspection and this is the original tag. I've done a number of things over the years to keep it going. I installed a new 3 core radiator (I think I still have the old one), new shocks, brake shoes and wheel cylinders, spark plugs, carb gaskets, new stainless steel mufflers and pipes and I rebuilt the starter motor. I bought a hard top for it, but I never really liked it, it made the car look really black. I sold that a couple of years ago. The rag top is much classier IMO. The top on it now was on it when I got it. It's shot. I believe that my grandfather may have had some repairs done on the front suspension. It's pretty tight with no shimmies. A few years after I got the car, I had it up to 100 mph. It walked right up there with ease, no vibs or shimmies. The engine is in great condition, no knocks, taps or smoke. The rear main is leaking though and the clutch is original so it's weak and soaked with oil. Needs to be replaced. Oil pressure is 35 hot idle, 45 running. The rear is perfect but the trans moans when you let off the gas in 1st gear. It doesn't pop out though, so I think it needs some minor attention. 2nd and 3rd are good, synchronizers are still pretty good too. The OD unit is stuck in low. This worked fine until a couple of years ago. I let the car sit so much, 2 years at a time sometimes, I think that the OD has just gotten stuck and needs to be freed up to work. The OD is like a 4th gear, really takes you up to cruising speed quickly . I've taken pics of the rusted areas on the car. The fender wells by the engine on both sides are rusted near the top. I wouldn't remove them though, just get a good body man to weld in a couple of small panels and blend them in . The air tubes under the fenders are also rusted. I believe that you can get new ones to put in from one of the T-Bird books. The rockers are solid inside and out on both sides, but the floor supports just in front of the rear wheels have some rust out. Again, this is minor work that a good body man can make like new pretty easily. Both doors, door bottoms, all of the flooring, the trunk deck and tire well are solid. The back half of the car was repainted when I was in high school. My mom told me that a dump truck had run into my grandfather at a red light in town. It broke both of the tail lights and rims. I also remember a small rust hole about the size of a quarter on each rocker right in front of the rear wheel. I think that my grandfather had all of this corrected with the re-paint. I've looked inside of the trunk to see for any repairs. There's no wrinkle or crinkles anywhere from the hit, it looks all original so think that it just broke the lights.  That's all that I can think of. Come out and take a look. I'm sure that you'll like it. The car is complete and essentially original. It's a fun ride and can really be made nice for a little bit of money.

Ford announces two recalls, 442k vehicles affected in North America

Wed, May 27 2015

Ford is announcing two recalls for North American that affect a total of 442,300 vehicles and multiple model lines. The larger campaign covers the possibility of electric power steering systems that can fail in the 2011-2013 Ford Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MKS, and MKT; the 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ; and the 2011 Mercury Milan. This recall affects 422,814 vehicles in North America, including 393,622 in the United States, 25,195 in Canada, and 3,997 in Mexico. According to the company, an intermittent electrical connection can cause the power steering to cut out, although manual steering would still work. Ford knows of four minor accidents from this issue, but there are no injuries. Depending on trouble codes from the vehicle, dealers will either upgrade software for the power steering control module or replace the steering gear. The second recall covers 19,486 examples of the 2015 Ford Mustang with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a production date between February 14, 2014, and February 10, 2015 at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Specifically, there are 19,095 of these in the US and 391 in Canada. These pony cars can show elevated underbody temperatures, which can lead to degradation of the fuel tank, fuel vapor lines, and parking brake cable seals. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires from this, though. To fix things, dealers will install a better-insulated fuel tank shield, add thermal patches around the tank and parking brake cable, and put thermal wraps around the fuel vapor lines. You can read the specific build dates and locations for the models affected by the power steering issue in Ford's press release below the video. 2014 Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Ford Mustang

Mon, 01 Jul 2013

If you're a fan of Ford racing history, a Mustang worshiper or even just an avid follower of our yearly SEMA coverage, you may have heard the back story on the Race Red Mustang you see above. Back in 1964, Holman & Moody was tapped by the English Alan Mann Racing Team to race-prep three Mustangs for competition in the incredibly arduous 4,000-mile Tour de France Automobile rally. Competing mainly against Jaguar MkII saloons over 10 days and 17 stages, the H&M Mustangs took the top two places in the Touring class and the first-ever racing win for Ford's pony car.
Though the history of that first Mustang win hasn't been incredibly well known here in the States, the subsequent decades have seen plenty of racy versions of the car come and go. Last year at the SEMA show, we covered the brief debut of this living tribute to that piece of racing lore, the Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang.
This limited-edition Mustang represents a kind of new venture for H&M, as the legendary racing shop has spent the last few decades earning its keep largely by restoring vintage racing cars. The urge to get back into the world of Ford and Mustang was powerful, however, what with the car's 50th anniversary looming and the current generation of 'Stang just about out the door.

Lincoln electric SUV to use Ford-backed Rivian's 'skateboard' chassis

Wed, Nov 27 2019

DETROIT — A battery-powered Lincoln SUV, due in mid-2022, will be the first Ford Motor Co. vehicle built on a custom electrified chassis that resembles a skateboard, which was developed by Ford-backed startup Rivian, according to several people familiar with the program. The all-wheel-drive Lincoln SUV could compete against Rivian's R1S, an electric sport utility vehicle slated to go into production in early 2021 that will be priced from $72,500. Both models will use Rivian's so-called skateboard, a flexible platform that combines electric motors, batteries, controls and suspension. On Tuesday, Ford declined to comment. Rivian did not respond to a request for comment. The new Lincoln, which carries the internal program code U787, also could compete with premium offerings from others, including General Motors Co <GM.N>, which plans to introduce at least two new electric SUVs by 2023, one for Cadillac and one that could revive the Hummer name, sources have said. Ford invested $500 million in Rivian this year and plans to help it begin production next year at a former Mitsubishi plant in Normal, Illinois. When Ford made the investment, it said it would use Rivian's skateboard to develop its own electric vehicle, but did not disclose details. It is not clear where Ford intends to build the Lincoln SUV, which will be among the first of several battery-powered utility vehicles planned for Ford's premium brand in North America and China, according to supplier sources familiar with those programs who asked not to be identified. Ford expects to introduce a compact Lincoln electric crossover in late 2021 or early 2022 and a mid-size companion in 2023, the sources said. The U.S. auto industry plans to invest billions of dollars over the next few years to build all-electric pickups and SUVs, sectors of the market that have been among the most profitable, especially for Detroit-based automakers. But analysts have questioned whether demand from consumers and commercial customers will come close to matching production. Founded in 2009, Rivian has raised $1.9 billion from investors, including e-commerce giant Amazon, which has ordered 100,000 electric delivery vehicles from Rivian. The first Amazon vans will be built in Normal and are to be delivered in 2021. Ford aims to sell an electric F-series pickup in late 2021, sources have said.
