Showagon, 1998 Taurus Sho Station Wagon, V8 Powered on 2040-cars
Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, United States
1998 SHOwagon - V8 powered Taurus wagon I am relisting this vehicle with a lower opening bid. It was listed several months ago then put into indoor storage. I no longer have the storage space available and have no need for the car anymore, so it must go. Since it was pulled from it's storage facility this summer, the battery does not hold a charge if it sits too long. As long as the car is driven regularly it will start perfectly every time. I encourage any serious bidders to come and look at the car and take it for a test drive. Please email me with any questions. Below are the original photos and text from the previous listing: This auction is for the 1998 SHOwagon. It is truly a one-of-a-kind vehicle! As many of you reading this probably know, Ford never produced a V8 Taurus wagon. This car was built using the front of a 1998 SHO sedan professionally grafted together with the rear half of a 1997 Taurus station wagon. (Legend has it that a new ’98 SHO was hit hard in the rear on a test drive and was thus used in this project.) It was finished for the 1999 SHO convention in Atlanta, the 10th anniversary of the Taurus SHO. There have been a few other V8 powered Taurus wagons created over the years, but as far as I know, this is the only one created from a genuine SHO sedan … that is, it has the SHO specific dash, console, seats, etc. I purchased this car in May 2005 and have used it as a daily driver ever since. It now has 123,425 miles and has been very dependable over the past 8 years. At one time this was an awesome show car, but the years of use have faded some of its glory. The car is still in very good condition mechanically but could use some cosmetic work to return it to the show circuit. It has a few door dings and small paint chips (especially in the front), and the paint has been touched up in several spots (note especially the close up of the right rear quarter around the antenna), but it still shines pretty well and looks great cruising down the road. The 3.4 liter engine is very strong (V8 torque!) and in excellent running condition. I have always changed the oil regularly using only synthetic oil. Those of you familiar with the 3.4 know the importance of welding the cams and these have been welded. The exhaust sound is awesome especially as the rpms increase to near the 7000 rpm redline. The computer has been reprogrammed to improve drivability with an Xcalibrator tuner from SCT (Superchips Custom Tuning) that is included with the vehicle. Thus, you can easily change the computer programming back to factory, use the economy tune, the performance tune, or create your own. In performance mode, it averages about 17 – 18 mpg with mixed highway and city driving; in economy tune 18 – 19 average with highway driving around 22 mpg. The interior is in fairly good shape showing some normal wear. There are some scuffs and scrapes, the console door lid does not open properly, the dash pad is separating above the gauges, and the headliner is sagging. The sound system has been modified with upgraded speakers, an auxiliary input, an add-on HD radio, and a small subwoofer. I do want to reiterate, this car is not perfect and has been my daily driver for 8 years, so although it looks great from a bit of a distance, it does have it’s flaws. In conclusion, the SHOwagon is a powerful, very dependable, safe vehicle that can be driven reliably. Because it is front wheel drive, it is a great car in the winter (it has always been great in the Northeast PA snow storms). Because it is a wagon, it can haul lumber, ladders, tools, and people too. Or … with some work and new paint, it wouldn't be hard to return it to show quality! The winning bidder can drive this vehicle to its new destination, or hire a shipping company to pick it up. The SHOwagon is comfortable and easy to drive. This vehicle is being sold AS-IS without any type of warranty or guaranty. Sorry the video looks a little squished, it must have been filmed in widescreen and I don’t know how to fix that. If you have any questions, please contact me by using the “Ask a question” link on this eBay page. If you would like, leave me your phone number and I will get back to you. I will accept payment by PayPal, cash or by certified check releasing the vehicle only after the check has cleared. The car is located about 15 miles from Wilkes-Barre, PA and I invite all serious bidders to personally come to inspect and drive this one-of-a-kind vehicle. I am also selling this car locally and reserve the right to end this auction as long as there are no opening bids. UPDATE 5/1/2013: I have received a question regarding the title for this vehicle. If you click on the vehicle history report, it does show that the original sedan was rebuilt after an accident (as I stated in the first paragraph above). I do hold a clean title registered in the state of PA. I have added this in a new photo at the bottom of this page. |

Ram 1500 bests new F-150 in MT pickup shootout
Tue, Nov 25 2014Ford's 2015 Ford F-150 is a technological tour-de-force, what with its aluminum-intensive construction and its powerful and efficient new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine option. But now that it's hit the market, it's time to get down to brass tacks and find out how just the latest F-150 actually stands up to its rivals in the hyper-competitive fullsize segment. Motor Trend is among the first to round up the Ford (in Lariat 2.7-liter 4X4 guise here) and put it up against the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel 4x4 and 5.3-liter-equipped Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 to find out how Dearborn's new-think truck measures up. The test put the trio through over 1,000 miles of tough driving in California and Arizona in a variety of conditions from just cruising around unladen to hauling a trailer. MT found all three trucks to be competent, but the most praise got heaped on the Ram and the Ford, with the Chevrolet falling a step behind its competitors in many tests. Among the Ford's most-liked features was its 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 that helped make the F-150 easily the quickest of the group, with some editors saying the engine felt about the same whether driving around with cargo in the bed or not. There was some minor turbo lag during acceleration while trailering, but that issue affected the Ram, too. The Ram's powertrain was lauded, as well. The EcoDiesel was torquey around town, and the 1500's combination of an eight-speed automatic and air suspension was judged to be the best of the lot. It was the most difficult to get into the bed, though. The Ram also won the fuel economy award by netting 20-miles-per-gallon city and 28-mpg highway in the test to beat its Environmental Protection Agency ratings of 19/27. The Ford's EcoBoost managed 17/22, one mpg off each from the EPA numbers, and using a lot of throttle really depleted its efficiency. As MT notes, however, it would take time for the diesel's mileage savings to pay off at the pump for these two trucks. In the end, the Ram just barely eked out the win, with the title partially earned because of "the Ford's unknown maintenance and aluminum repair costs," according to MT. Go check out the full comparison to read all of the details, then let us know what you think in Comments.
Ford Fusion demand outstripping supply
Sat, 15 Jun 2013The attractive new 2013 Ford Fusion has done wonders for the brand in the highly competitive midsize sedan segment - the vehicle is up nearly 22 percent compared to last year. But that sales momentum may soon hold steady due to low inventory levels of the new Fusion across the United States.
According to a report in The Detroit News, citing automotive data and Ward's Auto, Ford currently has a 39-day supply of the Fusion. That might sound fine, but a normally healthy average is about a 60-day supply. If Ford were to stop production on the Fusion today, there would only be enough vehicles available to get through another five weeks of sales, according to the News.
Currently, Ford produces the Fusion at its three-shift assembly plant in Hermosillo, Mexico, and will add production at its facility in Flat Rock, MI later this year. A Ford spokesperson told The Detroit News that when Flat Rock production comes online, the automaker will need to rush new stock out to the regions with the most demand for the Fusion. Ford has doubled its coastal retail market share, with huge amounts of growth in areas like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami, the News reports.
10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags
Sun, Dec 14 2014Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.
