This is my wife's Taurus. She has been driving the car since 2001, and it has received regular maintenance. Oil and grease jobs every 3000 miles. Over the years it has received new struts (could use them again) a new oil pump, timing chain, lifter set, alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump, and a transmission turbine inlet seal. The car just received a new battery and oil change. The engine is strong and neither the engine nor the transmission leak. It is very reliable. The radio and A/C both work as they should. Car doesn't overheat. Can be driven any distance home without concern.

Overall the car looks pretty good for it age, but the bumpers have lost their clear coat and the rear one has a small puncture in the cover. The interior shows some signs of age but is very presentable. The car will need struts soon, and the rear ball joints are getting squeaky (I have a set that goes with the car). I think the front half shafts (CV Joints) are getting weak, although they don"t make any noise while driving.
I don't want to oversell this car, after all it has nearly 200,000 miles on it, but it has been well maintained, is presentable and reliable and would make a good winter / work car for someone, or a starter car for a new driver. Feel free to ask questions.

Preserving automotive history costs big bucks

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

$1.8 million is spent each year to maintain GM's fleet of 600 production and concept cars.
When at least two of the Detroit Three were on the verge of death a few years back, one of the tough questions that was asked of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler execs - outside of why execs were still taking private planes to meetings - was why each company maintained huge archives of old production and concept vehicles. GM, for example, had an 1,100-vehicle collection when talk of a federal bailout began.

Ford reflects on radical Mustang concept that never reached showrooms

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

The Ford Mustang that we all know and love made major waves in the auto industry way back in 1964 by offering style and reasonable pricing with optional V8 power. Its long hood and short rear deck, combined with a low-slung and sporty cockpit, made a lasting impression in the minds of consumers and car designers alike, and its basic shape has so endured the test of time that it's still in use today.
This being the case, you may be interested to know that the first Mustang of 1964.5 wasn't actually the first Mustang at all, being preceded by a concept car that made its public debut in 1962. This concept was nothing like the car that would eventually make it into production, with a radical wedge shape and a small V4 engine sitting behind the car's two occupants, driving the rear wheels. In other words, the conceptual Mustang was pretty much the complete opposite of the production Mustang besides the name.
Ford has kindly decided go through its massive archive to bring the original Mustang concept back into the public eye. The company goes so far as to pose this question to fans of the pony car: "Should we borrow a few of these style elements for the next iteration of the Mustang?" RWD Lincolns are coming, fate depends partly on MKZ success

Tue, 04 Dec 2012

The product portfolio at Lincoln may seem a bit sparse at the moment, but if a report is to be believed, new products are on the way. TheDetroitBureau.com spoke with sources at Lincoln and Ford, who claimed the American premium brand is working on, perhaps more than one, rear-wheel-drive vehicle.
Lincoln would likely platform-share with the next-generation Ford Mustang to develop those RWD offerings in the early going. Moving forward, the report indicates that Lincoln could take the lead on other rear-drive projects in the future. As the RWD architecture continues to take shape, "most or all" of the front-wheel-drive portfolio will also be offered with all-wheel drive as an option, ala Audi.
But wait, there's more! The report also suggests that a replacement for the full-size MKS is on the way, as well as a new Navigator and a luxury crossover based on the current Ford Escape.
