How Ford's light lab keeps the sun shining on the new Mustang just right [w/video]
Thu, 02 Jan 2014Anyone who's bought one of those old school metal shift knobs knows they're really cool until they sit in a parking lot in the sun for a few hours. Then they're not cool at all. Likewise, features such as the aluminum dash on the 2015 Ford Mustang can be all kinds of neat right up until the sun hits it just the right way and sends shards of blinding light through the cabin. The Ford Visual Performance and Evaluation Lab is where engineers figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen.
Cars like said Mustang are parked inside the 30-foot reflecting dome under 6,000 watts of lights that can mimic the sun at any time of day and in any weather condition. Engineers can then spend cold, overcast days inside, testing for interior legibility, glare and reflections on every interior and exterior surface as if it were bright and sunny. They can also learn how a car's sheetmetal and colors will look out of doors, all year round.

Ford honors Chinese Year of the Horse with Vaughn Gittin Jr., Mustang video
Fri, Feb 27 2015Calendar years and fiscal years tend to be the only timetables automakers concern themselves with, but that doesn't mean there isn't recognition of other measures of time. Ford has opted to observe the Chinese zodiac, largely because the Year of the Horse ended just last week. That's fortuitous timing, considering the first Ford Mustangs were making their way towards the People's Republic as celebrations were carrying on. To recognize this fact, and the end of the Year of the Horse, Ford recruited drift king Vaughn Gittin, Jr., to take a 2015 Mustang GT to the streets of Ordos City, in north-central China. It's not as dramatic as some of Ford's recent videos, like the one starring Ken Block and the Ford Focus RS, but it's pretty cool all the same. Take a look. Watch live as Mark Fields is officially named Ford's next CEO
Thu, 01 May 2014We've heard rumblings of a changing of the guard at Ford, and this live stream from The Blue Oval itself is set to confirm the rumors: Alan Mulally will be succeeded by the automaker's current Chief Operating Officer, Mark Fields.
Mulally, who is 68 years old, has served at the head of Ford for eight years, and his official retirement date will be July 1st, 2014. Fields, who is 53 this year, has been with Ford for 25 years and has been groomed to take the helm from Mulally for the last several of those years.
