SINGLE OWNER VEHICLE. THE PICTURES WERE TAKEN BEFORE WINTER SO A WAX AND POLISH WILL BE NEEDED TO RESTORE TO THE CONDITION IN THE PICTURES. NICE INSIDE.....GOOD USED TIRES.....NEW CLUTCH AND PRESSURE PLATE....MOTOR WAS REBIULT AT 210,000 MILES BUT HAS DEVELOPED A TICK WITH THE VALVES AFTER 6,000 MILES FOLLOWING REBUILD....DOESNT SMOKE.....THERE APPEARS TO BE A MISMATCH BETWEEN THE STARTER ANDS RING GEAR, POSSIBLY SHIMS NEEDED BEHIND FLYWHEEL.... ALTHOUGH GETS ON DOWN THE ROAD NOW WHEN STARTER ALIGNED, I WOULDNT RECOMMEND IT FOR LONG UNTIL VALVES CAN BE ADJUSTED......OVERALL THIS IS A NICE 1989 RANGER. THERE IS SLIGHT RUST AT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL. I WILL REPLACETHE HEADLINER IF IT DOESN'T SELL. I JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO PUT INTO THE TRUCK RIGHT NOW WHICH IS WHY I AM SELLING IT. Ford turns Navistar from truck business customer to rival
Mon, 19 May 2014There is a showdown brewing in the medium-duty truck segment next year as Ford prepares to launch its all-new, in-house engineered 2016 F-650 and F-750. It finally marks the end of the Blue Diamond joint venture between Ford and Navistar and, making the two entities direct competitors instead of partners.
Ford announced the end of the joint venture in an investor report in 2011, but it didn't reveal the new F-650 and F-750 until the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, IN, in March. Unlike the current, Mexican-built models, the new generation will be built in Avon Lake, OH, starting in mid-2015.
The challenge from Ford comes during a rough patch for Navistar. The company had a $248 million loss in the first quarter, according to The Wall Street Journal, and its medium-duty truck market share is currently down to 26 percent, from 36 percent in 2011. Building the previous-generation Fords brought in about $400 million a year to Navistar, according to the WSJ. To take on its former partner, Navistar plans to offer its International brand of medium-duty vehicles with more engine and transmission options to customers. It even struck a deal with Cummins to put its diesels in some of the models.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
