1976 Ford Ranchero 500 truck. This is an interesting vehicle, and while very familiar with Mustangs and Torinos of the era, I have never owned a Ranchero in my life.                                  One of my tenants found himself in a jam with job scheduling and needed to move to FL at the last minute and could not take the Ranchero with him, thus he left it in my care to help him sell it.  I am posting it here, to sell to the highest bidder with NO RESERVE. It is a solid truck, and it runs very well.

It has the standard 5.7L powertrain, powered with what I believe to be either a 351M or a 400 engine in it ( the 351C would have a "2"  or a " 4" in the upper front corner of the cylinder heads. This one does not), mated to its stock C6 automatic transmission, with stock 9" differential.

The engine runs SUPER; always starts right up, idles smoothly and gets up and goes without hesitation. Very strong motor, does not burn oil or smoke. The transmission shifts well into all forward and reverse gears, without slippage. The differential is tight, with no axle noises or ring/ pinion chatter or bearing noises.

The body looks fairly straight, and it looks to have had a paint job somewhat recently. It actually looks very good. There are a couple of trim bits missing; I do not know what they are or where, so please note, the car is sold exactly as you see it, nothing more or nothing less.

The Ranchero has a set of vintage slotted dish mag wheels ( in total 1970s fashion), with an older set of Comp/ TA tires. The tread on the tires is about 70% all around.

The interior is very simple, without a lot of gadgets or frills. There is some wear to the outer areas of the split bench seat as pictured ( it has a center armrest). Door panels are in good shape ( except for the snap on the lower area of the driver's, as pictured), glass on both doors is fine and both windows go up and down fine ( they are manual). NO cracks on the windshield.

The registration has just been paid up all the way thru 2014. This Ford Ranchero 500 has a CLEAR California title, and it passed stringent CA Emissions inspections less than thirty days ago.

Overall, a solid workhorse, runaround truck or a great truck to soup-up or hotrod. It is listed here with a ridiculous opening bid and NO RESERVE. That being said, the Ranchero is listed in other venues as well as locally, and as such, I reserve to the right to end this auction early if a serious buyer or aBUY-IT-NOW offer presents itself.

Feel free to EM or call me with questions, and I will try to provide as much information as possible. You can call (650) 430-4660 PST, no later than 9 pm please ( I have little kids).

I will be glad to arrange / assist with nationwide or overseas delivery of this cool Ranchero anywhere, at the most economical shipping rate available.

Should you be the winning bidder, I would like to receive payment within THREE business days, please. Instrument of payment can be a cashier's check or money order(s).                                         Personal, Business, C.C advance or annuity drafts may be utilized, but must clear all funding prior to any transportation arrangements being made.

Additionally, a bank wire transfer may be used to my local CHASE Bank branch in San Mateo. It expedites the process considerably and allows for faster shipping arrangements.

Finally, PAYPAL may be an alternative, if arrranged between the prospective buyer and seller prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction, not afterwards.

PLEASE be sure to ask any and all questions before the end of the auction.

Thank you for your interest~!

Ram 1500 bests new F-150 in MT pickup shootout

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Ford's 2015 Ford F-150 is a technological tour-de-force, what with its aluminum-intensive construction and its powerful and efficient new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine option. But now that it's hit the market, it's time to get down to brass tacks and find out how just the latest F-150 actually stands up to its rivals in the hyper-competitive fullsize segment. Motor Trend is among the first to round up the Ford (in Lariat 2.7-liter 4X4 guise here) and put it up against the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel 4x4 and 5.3-liter-equipped Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 to find out how Dearborn's new-think truck measures up. The test put the trio through over 1,000 miles of tough driving in California and Arizona in a variety of conditions from just cruising around unladen to hauling a trailer. MT found all three trucks to be competent, but the most praise got heaped on the Ram and the Ford, with the Chevrolet falling a step behind its competitors in many tests. Among the Ford's most-liked features was its 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 that helped make the F-150 easily the quickest of the group, with some editors saying the engine felt about the same whether driving around with cargo in the bed or not. There was some minor turbo lag during acceleration while trailering, but that issue affected the Ram, too. The Ram's powertrain was lauded, as well. The EcoDiesel was torquey around town, and the 1500's combination of an eight-speed automatic and air suspension was judged to be the best of the lot. It was the most difficult to get into the bed, though. The Ram also won the fuel economy award by netting 20-miles-per-gallon city and 28-mpg highway in the test to beat its Environmental Protection Agency ratings of 19/27. The Ford's EcoBoost managed 17/22, one mpg off each from the EPA numbers, and using a lot of throttle really depleted its efficiency. As MT notes, however, it would take time for the diesel's mileage savings to pay off at the pump for these two trucks. In the end, the Ram just barely eked out the win, with the title partially earned because of "the Ford's unknown maintenance and aluminum repair costs," according to MT. Go check out the full comparison to read all of the details, then let us know what you think in Comments.

Ford Mondeo Hybrid could beat unloved diesels in Europe

Wed, Feb 11 2015

Predicting changes in the European auto market isn't easy, and Ford is hedging its bets there with the introduction of the Mondeo Hybrid. The Blue Oval has no expectation of the electrified version of the sedan being a rollicking sales success, but the model is a fuel-efficient alternative in case the recent backlash against diesel turns into an outright ban somewhere. This is the first time Ford is selling a hybrid version of the Mondeo (a cousin to the Fusion in the US) in Europe. The vehicle pairs a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder with a 1.4-kWh battery pack to make a total of 185 horsepower and emit 99 grams per kilometer of CO2. The Blue Oval expects to sell around 100,000 units of all versions of the sedan annually there, according to Automotive News Europe. However, fewer than 5,000 of those are predicted to be the gas-electric model. "Legislation around Europe is so different it's very difficult to predict," Roelant de Waard, Ford of Europe sales boss, said to ANE. "If you're betting only on one horse you might be lucky, but you also may be very unlucky." Ford is probably smart to have alternatives ready, and it also already offers the Focus Electric and hybrid C-Max there. Governments in Europe are rapidly turning against diesel, especially in France. The country considered offering buyers 10,000 euros ($11,300) if they trade in an old oil-burner on a new electric vehicle, and the prime minister calls backing the fuel for so long a mistake. The UK's Labour Party is making similar declarations. Ford opens research center in Silicon Valley

Fri, Jan 23 2015

These days, the software running a vehicle's myriad of electronic systems seems to be getting nearly as much development focus from automakers as the traditional mechanical parts that keep a car going. Constantly improving that technology requires a lot of experimentation, though, and Ford is expanding its presence in Silicon Valley with the just-opened Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto to make that progress possible. Ford opened its first office in the country's technological hub in 2012 to draw talent and devise ways to deal with vast amounts of sensor data. Apparently, setting up shop in Silicon Valley was deemed a success because the Blue Oval decided to create this new lab in the Stanford Research Park to focus on five areas: connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience and analytics. Among the center's potential projects, Ford is hoping to develop better natural speech recognition, which is absolutely vital for improving infotainment systems. Assuming the tech eventually works well enough, your voice might even be used to adjust a vehicle's power seats, according to the automaker. The Blue Oval is also letting engineers from Stanford University test autonomous driving algorithms on a self-driving version of the Fusion. In a smaller stakes venture, researchers are working to get a Nest smart thermometer to automatically adjust the temperature at home depending on if an owner's vehicle is leaving or coming back. To really show that its serious about these ventures, Ford hired Dragos Maciuca away from Apple as the center's technical leader. The automaker also wants to have 125 researchers at work there by the end of the year.
