Gretna, Virginia, United States

I am offering for sale my 1931 Ford Model A Pick-up.  I am the second owner of this truck since it was rebuilt as a street rod.  The chassis was built in Charlotte, NC.  The rest of the truck was build in CT.  The truck is all steel.  All original steel except the bed which is and aftermarket steel bed.  The engine is a 1960's 327 Chevrolet which is equipped with an Edelbrock enduroshine intake and two Edelbrock enduroshine four barrel carbs.  It also has tuned headers.   It has excellent chrome bumpers front and back.  The exhausts are new.  It has disc brakes on the front and drum brakes on the rear.  It has coil over shocks on the back.  The suspension and undercarriage work is excellent.  It has Coker classic tires which have 95% of their tread.  I have installed a new Stewart-Warner speedometer which works.  Still using the original gas tank which is between the dash and the firewall/engine compartment.  The original fuel gauge still works fine, has a new float on it.  Still using the original ignition switch.  Have installed a correct steering wheel.  The air conditioning (tilt-out windshield) works fine.  The headlight bar is a "drop down" style which sets the headlights down a little lower and gives a better "street machine" look.   The front bumper brackets are mounted upside down which lowers the bumper.   I have very recently added the cowl lights.  The turn signals are in the headlights and they work fine.  I have just installed new LED tail/brake lights so others can see you better at night.  The seats are covered with vinyl, cloth would be better.  There is an instrument panel overhead.  It includes an oil pressure gauge, amp meter, water temp. gauge and a newly installed tachometer.  In that overhead console is an AM/FM stereo with CD player.   All the metal is good.  Running boards, fenders, corners, bed and all have zero rust.  The battery is in the yellow  "Things go better with Coke" cooler in the bed.  All the electronics work.  There are switches for most things on the driver's side kick panel.  The starter button, horn button, headlight/park light switch, instrument panel light switch and cowl light switch are all located there.  The interior light (overhead) switch is located in a storage compartment over the driver's head.  Oh yes, I forgot, there are two storage compartments, one on each side in the overhead console.  Each windshield wiper has its own switch.  The door handles are original.  They pull "to you" to open the doors.  There is an electric heater under the seat.  It is ducted to both driver and passenger's feet and does a pretty good job on cold days.

This little truck is extremely well constructed.  It is tight, no rattles, and rides really good.  It will run like a scared rabbit if you wish to get into it.  (I don't.)  A friend of mine has a '35 Ford coupe street rod and the first time he rode in my truck he kept on commenting about how good it rides.  It is not a real show winner, but is a hell-of-a-good cruise-in truck.

I have tried to describe the little truck as best I can.  If I failed to address something you want to know, just email me and I will try to get back to you with the proper information.   Thanks for looking and good look bidding!

Truckmakers squabbling over who can sell Jimmy Fallon a pickup

Sat, 08 Mar 2014

Snagging a celebrity endorsement is a big deal for automakers, as evidenced by the recent efforts of the Detroit Three to try and woo The Tonight Show's newest host, Jimmy Fallon, into one of their trucks.
After announcing during Wednesday night's show that he was in the market for a pickup truck, Fallon set off a firestorm of efforts on Twitter, with both Ford and Chevrolet petitioning the funnyman to test out a truck. According to Ad Age, Ford recommended the King Ranch edition of its next-generation F-150 while the show was still airing. Chevy, meanwhile, waited until the next morning to pitch a Silverado to Fallon.
The winner of this social media feeding frenzy, though, was Ram. Promoting a variation of its "Guts, Glory, Ram" tagline, the Auburn Hills-based manufacturer created the hashtag #GUTSGLORYFallon. It even went so far as to park a Ram 1500 outside 30 Rockefeller Center in New York, where The Tonight Show is filmed. On the back of the Ram sat a sign, reading "Big enough, Jimmy? Test it out," referencing a joke from the Wednesday show.

Ford sells 7-millionth Explorer in America

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Say what you will about the evolution of the Ford Explorer, from roofed Ranger to body-on-frame sport utility vehicle to unibody crossover - the bottom line is that it's been a tremendously successful model for Ford. In fact, the Blue Oval automaker has sold seven million Explorer models in the United States alone.
The milestone, marked nearly a quarter-century after the introduction of the original in 1990, comes on the eve of the introduction of a new Explorer at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. We don't yet know how the new Explorer will shape up, but we're mere days away from finding out.
Now heading into its sixth generation, the Explorer has formed the basis of Ford's utility lineup for over two decades. The Explorer landed on the market right around the time that the Bronco was trailing off, predating the company's expansion into larger SUVs like the Expedition and Excursion and crossovers like the Escape, Edge and Flex.

Yearly auto recall record demolished in 6 months

Tue, Jul 1 2014

With nearly 40 million vehicles under repair campaigns and counting, 2014 will almost certainly go down as the year of the automotive recall. At just past the halfway mark, we are already at record levels, and there aren't any signs that the epidemic is slowing. General Motors' latest 8.4 million vehicle recall in the US puts the industry over the top for the title of the most cars with fixes pending from automakers ever. That's a prize no one ever wants to receive. According to TheDetroitBureau.com, the US recall total has hit 39.85-million vehicles to surpass the previous record of 33.01 million in 2004. Perhaps more surprising, with over 26 million repairs pending, it's still quite possibly that GM could recall more vehicles by the end of the year than the 27.96-million unit total of the entire US auto industry last year. With over 40 campaigns under its belt in 2014, the roughly one million cars it would take would hardly come as a surprise at this point, especially with increased government scrutiny into the Detroit automaker's processes. The pace of recalls started off relatively normal this year, with just a smattering of campaigns. The most surprising early on was Aston Martin calling in about 75 percent of its output since 2007 due to counterfeit plastic, but with just a few thousand cars, it was relatively tiny in pure numbers. GM really kicked things off soon after, but we didn't know it at the time. It issued its first bulletin for 778,000 Cobalt compacts in early February. Things only ballooned from there as more models were added to its growing ignition switch problem. The onslaught of announcements from every major automaker hasn't abated since then. Some industry executives are trying to put a positive spin on the situation. "With what's transpired (in recent months), there's a higher level of scrutiny," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas, to TheDetroitBureau.com. He believes that automakers are looking at data much more thoroughly than before, and it means better customer safety. Still, many consumers probably wish these problems had been found before their car went on sale.
