I purchased this 1968 Mustang in 2000 while living in Mesa Arizona. It was a one owner vehicle residing in southern California and Arizona during its life so it had the climate to keep it a rust free vehicle and it is still. It was a 6 cylinder and automatic but such a clean car rust free car that I decided it would be a good candidate for a restomod with lots of V8 horsepower.  So I set off to do that and started with the hardest work first. I stripped the car down completely and took the underbody to bare metal, then primed it with the best polymer primer and Plastikote similar to a bed liner material just thinner so that the floor pan would not rust out in the future. I removed the old fuel tank and replaced it with a new galvanized tank. Replaced all the front suspension components including upper and lower control arms, bushing, tie rods etc. the whole 9 yards! Next I bought a wrecked 1991 mustang GT 5.0L car as a donor car and fitted all the drivetrain including the modern and durable 8.8" rear end with 3.55 gears and "Rear Disc Brakes!", custom driveshaft, Borg Warner World Class T5 Manual Transmission and the 5.0L engine after $4,500 in high performance engine rebuild. I also fitted a front disc brake conversion kit to have good stoping power for all the horsepower I was planning to make.  On the 5.0L engine I had the machine shop bore it 0.030" oversize and I used new Keith Black Hyperutectic pistons, forged i beam rods, forged crankshaft, with the whole rotating assembly precision balanced. I used a anodized steel stud girdle to stiffen the bottom end and toped the short block with the best aluminum heads money could buy at that time, still arguably the best, Air Flow Research AFR 185cc heads with 2.02" intake valves and 1.85" exhaust ($1,500) then I had a custom Comp Cams camshaft ground for the highest lift the valvetrain could handle and installed new Scorpion stud roller rocker arms and new roller lifters and push rods, a new Mallory Unilite distributor and wires and Hooker Competition Headers, Holley 750cfm double pumper mechanical secondary race built Carb.  This engine easily cranks and runs and sounds great but will barely idle because of the camshaft which may have been too aggressive. The engine has less than an hour of run time and has never left my back yard except shipping during my move from AZ to Texas. As you can see from the photos the body is straight and doesnt have any visible dents, surface rust on the two new front fenders that never were painted and a little surface rust on the passenger door but all the rest of the car is clean, rust free and ready have the restoration completed. All the original parts I stripped off the car are in the TRUNK which is locked and Ive lost the key, I tried to drill the lock out but it is stainless and ruined my drill bit, so I cant even install all the glass windows and everything else to help sell it. The front windshield is missing (didnt survive being removed in one piece) and the front and rear bumpers I discarded because the chrome was imperfect and there may be a few other small parts missing but most of it is lying in cob webs in the trunk. It is missing one Bullet Mustang wheel but these are easy to find and I have an original steel wheel in that place. I did receive a valid Arizona blue title when I purchased the car from the old man in Payson but now I cannot find the darn title! Im still looking and it may turn up yet, but I am declaring the sale of this vehicle is NOT CONTINGENT on me finding the title. I will assist the new owner in any reasonable way I can to get a valid title for the car with signing affidavits etc. I've heard it can be done. I encourage you to come and look at the car and hear it run... I promise you will appreciate the time and money I have invested getting it to this point. Call me for an appointment 1-903-714-8524 Andy. Thanks for looking but please don't bid if you cannot afford to pay cash for the car quickly or if you do not have a Paypal account as I require an immediate $500 deposit. PS I do have a slew of other new parts which I have never installed including custom all aluminum radiator with electric fans, new chrome outer door handles and more than I can remember but I will dig it all out of storage and it goes with the car for the final bid price. As bad as i hate to let this dream go, I now have kids and a family that need my time and resources more than my hobbies.

2015 F-150 kick-starts Ford sales

Wed, Feb 4 2015

The F-150 had a middling year in 2014, and its sales dipped slightly as Ford transitioned to producing the all-new truck with an aluminum body. But with one factory humming, another on the way and a fuller stock of trucks, 2015 is already shaping up to be a different story. The F-Series posted a 17-percent leap in January, helping to push Ford sales to a 15-percent gain for the month. The F-Series had its best January performance in 11 years with sales of 54,370 trucks last month. Much of this strength comes from the new generation of the F-150. While many of the old model are still being sold off, Ford is rolling out the new version. Just five percent of the F-150's retail sales were the new truck in December, but it was up to 18 percent in January. The increase comes as the first factory that makes the truck, Ford's Dearborn facility, is fully back online. The other F-150 factory, in Kansas City, is still completing its changeover to build the aluminum-bodied truck, and that's expected to be finished in the first quarter of this year. Sales of the truck will still be "tempered a bit" until the Kansas City plant ramps up, Ford sales analyst Erich Merkle said. Ford expects to have a full inventory of F-150s by mid-year. To that end, the company announced plans on Wednesday to add 1,550 jobs to support the F-150, including 900 positions at the Kansas City factory. The remaining jobs will be spread out over sites in metro Detroit. The Dearborn and Kansas City factories collectively will be able to build more than 700,000 F-150s annually. The added headcount also means Ford has reached the maximum number of entry-level workers allowed under its pact with the United Auto Workers. About 300 to 500 employees at several plants in the Midwest will transition to a higher pay rate, and their wages will rise from $19.28 an hour to $28.50 an hour. The F-Series was Ford's hottest seller in January, moving off lots in an average of 12 days. The high-end models, the King Ranch and the Platinum versions, are moving slightly quicker. The average transaction price is also up $2,100 for the F-150 compared to January 2014. "We're really pleased with how the new one is doing on dealer lots," Merkle said. A larger stock of F-150s will allow Ford and its rivals to capitalize on low fuel prices, which have slowed consumers' interest in smaller vehicles.

Ford Mustang challenges Lamborghini in amazing drift battle

Fri, Dec 18 2015

Engines scream and tires billow with smoke as Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Daigo Saito stage a drift battle through an abandoned Japanese resort that looks like a Russian village in this stunning clip. The high-performance ballet of these amazing machines sliding around makes this one of the best videos of the year. To fight this duel, Gittin straps into his 550-horsepower Ford Mustang, and Saito meets the pony car's challenge with a drift-prepped Lamborghini Murcielago. The drivers hit a curving road and show expert car control as the men slide these very different vehicles just inches from each other. Eventually, night descends, and they add some fire to the scene to give the stunts a more apocalyptic look. The production values for this short clip are phenomenal, and the editing makes the viewer feel right in the middle of the action. If you want to get behind the scenes of this impressive display of drifting, Speedhunters did a great job capturing the event in photos. Related Video:

Man has surgery to remove T-Bird turn signal that's been in his arm for 51 years

Fri, Jan 2 2015

In 1963, real estate agent Arthur Lampitt was driving a new Ford Thunderbird near East Peoria, Illinois on his way to an appointment when he collided head-on with a truck. A massive accident that was so bad that it was originally reported as a fatal crash, Lampitt suffered a broken hip and that became the focus of doctors' efforts. In fact, no one noticed the fact that the turn-signal stalk had been broken off the steering column and had lodged itself in Lampitt's arm. Fast-forward to around ten years ago, when Lampitt set off a courthouse metal detector because of a "slender object, about the size of a pencil" in his arm. Despite that unnerving discovery, the doctor who examined Lampitt said that since it didn't hurt, he needn't worry about it. This year, however, it did start hurting and the affected arm started to bulge. Lampitt decided to have the issue seen to, and suspected it might have something to do with his 1963 accident. When he looked through photos of the wreck taken by a friend, he noticed the turn-signal stalk of the Thunderbird missing and figured that was the culprit. After a 45-minute outpatient surgery, the surgeon verified it: a slim, slightly bent and corroded, seven-inch metal cylinder with a trumpeted end. The surgeon said a protective pocket had formed around it, which is why it could remain in Lampitt's arm so long, but it was still unusual - "We see all kinds of foreign objects like nails or pellets, but usually not this large." Lampitt, who is expected to make a full recovery, says he might make a keychain out of it, once he's done just holding it.
