This listing is for a Model T Ford truck conversion chassis that was built around 1917 or later by the Jewett Car Co. of Newark Ohio. I believe they built electric street cars and had nothing in common with Jewett Motors of Detroit Michigan except for the name. I am not an expert on the various Jewett companies or products so please feel free to help me out here if you can.

This listing is for the Jewett frame, Jewett rear axle assembly and Ford Model T front axle and spring assembly only and does not include the rough roadster body, hood, radiator or front wheels that are shown here. The front wheels are of the earlier ball bearing style and I had to borrow them from a friend. I temporarily placed those parts on this truck chassis so that you would get a better idea of the size of this very rare Model T Ford truck conversion. This listing does not include an engine, transmission or steering gear either.

I found this gem at a large collector vehicle auction near Garrison Montana last Saturday. I found it to be so interesting and special that decided I was not going home without it. What I found there was basically all of the Jewett conversion parts except for what I believe is a newer drive shaft. I believe the drive shaft is from a 1940's or early 1950's Chrysler product that had the enclosed pin type of U-Joint that was covered by a rubber boot.

This Jewett conversion was installed on a bare 1925 or earlier Model T Ford frame when I found it and that frame is still with this truck chassis. I added an earlier Model T Ford front axle assembly with ball bearing spindles and a Ford front spring so that some front wheels could be installed to make the chassis look better. I had to borrow those front wheels from a friend and have to return them to him so they are not included with this truck chassis.

The wheelbase of this truck conversion is about        inches. The Jewett frame rails extend about       inches behind the back of the roadster body. The distance from the back of the roadster body to the center of the rear axle measures about     inches. Based on these dimensions, I believe one could have a bed or box on this truck of around      feet in length. One could extend or shorten the wheelbase of this truck by merely extending or shortening the length of the Model T Ford frame that is bolted to the Jewett truck frame rails. One could shorten the Model T Ford frame enough to make this truck into a tractor that could be used to pull a small trailer.

Ford announces two recalls, 442k vehicles affected in North America

Wed, May 27 2015

Ford is announcing two recalls for North American that affect a total of 442,300 vehicles and multiple model lines. The larger campaign covers the possibility of electric power steering systems that can fail in the 2011-2013 Ford Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MKS, and MKT; the 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ; and the 2011 Mercury Milan. This recall affects 422,814 vehicles in North America, including 393,622 in the United States, 25,195 in Canada, and 3,997 in Mexico. According to the company, an intermittent electrical connection can cause the power steering to cut out, although manual steering would still work. Ford knows of four minor accidents from this issue, but there are no injuries. Depending on trouble codes from the vehicle, dealers will either upgrade software for the power steering control module or replace the steering gear. The second recall covers 19,486 examples of the 2015 Ford Mustang with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a production date between February 14, 2014, and February 10, 2015 at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Specifically, there are 19,095 of these in the US and 391 in Canada. These pony cars can show elevated underbody temperatures, which can lead to degradation of the fuel tank, fuel vapor lines, and parking brake cable seals. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires from this, though. To fix things, dealers will install a better-insulated fuel tank shield, add thermal patches around the tank and parking brake cable, and put thermal wraps around the fuel vapor lines. You can read the specific build dates and locations for the models affected by the power steering issue in Ford's press release below the video. Ford EcoBoost successful because of Soviet laser weapons system expert?

Sun, 28 Jul 2013

Mike Kluzner is a man of many talents. Not only is he the software engineer responsible for fuel system diagnostics for Ford globally, he "got his start designing laser weapon systems capable of disabling the navigation systems of enemy satellites" for the former Soviet Union. Quite a résumé, wouldn't you say?
You may be asking yourself the same question that popped into our minds upon reading about Mr. Kluzner: What do laser weapon systems have to do with Ford and its EcoBoost engines? We'll let the man answer himself. "The same process for analyzing key physical relationships works for what we do today in engine combustion, catalyst chemistry and mechanics," says Kluzner. "These are all part of Ford's software engineering expertise." Who are we to argue?
Ford also employs an engineer who previously designed software to detect damage to the heat tiles on the International Space Station, as well as one who's past work involved particle physics, says the automaker in the press release below. David Bell (pictured above right), global boost system controls engineer for Ford, describes the software running EcoBoost as "the secret sauce" that makes the technology work as the driver intends and demands.
